  • I've extended the engineer scene with additional clips from "The Crossing" prologue. (Note some shots have been altered in progression). This is where I thought David's flashback of Elizabeth Shaw should have been shown in the film. (Read Below For More Info):
FYI: This is an altered partial cut that I edited myself, and the Blu-ray does not have an extended version of "The Crossing" prologue.
(I also edited the dialogue and wind effects at the beginning of the clip, and mixed audio from the prologue when the spaceship enters the atmosphere at 1:57).
(Work In Progress). The material I've edited in this video is owned by:
© Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation
Here's a link to the official version of "The Crossing" prologue. (Directed by Ridley Scott):

They can't. They're not smart enough to think up something incredibly smart without going the traditional route of 'meeting God,' even insofar as half of the original series Star Trek episodes chose this move, or something else that would feel cosmic and religious, like the devil being real. And they dare not go religious b/c that's not 'cool' in hollywood right now and some sci fi atheist nerds wouldn't like it, and those are the only nerds that hollywood elites talk to, in the forums of google in silicon valley.

Do you know why LV426 was called such? I’m aware there is more to the plot... but the first 3 films were simple horror flicks with a little “deeper meaning” hidden behind a layer of grit. The vast majority of people going out to see a new “Alien” movie just want to see a horror film and not be asked to decipher what they just saw on an intellectual level.
Like you, I’d love to see a deeper narrative developed but to act as though people that want to see more Aliens in a movie based on a horror film that was only using sci-fi as a backdrop and which was titled “Alien” are wrong for wanting it... is just silly.

An organism that while arguably perfect in terms of its biological adaptability is totally incapable of any form of self expression like humans and more than likely the engineers. It’s hilarious how Davis not only attributes the poem to Lord Byron when it’s actually by Shelley (the husband of Mary Shelley who wrote Frankenstein which heavily inspired this movie), but also misunderstands the point of the poem. @tiko1msn What I'm talking about is the engineer sculpture that HR Giger created for the engineer in Alien was massive (as I would imagine that type of creator would be). In Prometheus and in Covenant, they are just a little taller than humans with no explanation. That kind of irks you if you saw that impressive thing splashed across the movie screen in the 70s. The giant engineer and tagline "In space, no one can hear you scream," were THE main marketing gimmicks of the movie and were as iconic as the chestburster scene. The change was probably due to budget and narrative flow considerations, but I think that it would have been more impressive to go with the original vision Giger had (the guy had the nightmare thing down pat). In other words, a massive creator creates beings in his own image (the engineers), who created humans, who create AI. Then there is still that old philosophical question that the Shaws wondered, "Who created the massive creator? Without that, it is just a pale reboot and maybe one of the reasons why the movies didn't do as well as they should have. There have been huge continuity problems in the Alien Franchise. There were Hicks and Newt killed in Alien 3 and no Elizabeth Shaw in Covenant. If they had done this a little differently, both movies may have performed better. For the record, I did like Prometheus and Covenant; they were visually stunning.

I believe the original scene showing David and Elizabeth arriving at Paradise went different then what we saw in the Film when released. We still got the same footage but it was re-edited, recut and the proof is in the film. We see David in the Juggernaut passing back and forth while releasing the Cargo of the Black Goo down onto the populus, when we see down at the planets Population we can see the Engineers gathered in the center hands up Waving. Now fans have wondered why the Engineers we're gathered there when David and Shaw arrived and what was the purpose of the greeting? Well I believe this scene originally played out differently, the Engineers weren't waving Hello but instead Good bye, David and Shaw made it to the Planet and Docked with the floating Docking Station seen floating, David and Shaw go down to the surface and are greeted by some local Engineers but the Engineers are
Sh😲cked to see David and Shaw instead of a Space Jockey (The Engineer type from Prometheus)
David and Shaw are taken to the head leader (The Local Engineer we see in White) and Shaw explains why they have come. Shaw and David stay for a few days and David learns all of the ways of these Engineers just as Shaw. It's possible that at some point David either wants to leave are David is told he must leave once it's discovered that he is a living Sin, a Artificially Living Being but Shaw refuses to go with him and is told she can stay, she then decides not to go with David and this confuses David who is in love with Shaw, David tries to talk Shaw into leaving with him but she refuses, David accepts this and returns to the JUGGERNAUT to leave. As David departs all the Engineers gather in the Center to wish him good bye (this is the scene we see in the Film showing all the Engineers gathered a waving, they weren't waving Hello like we thought but instead Goodbye) but David's Jealousy gets the best of him and he feels that the Engineers have taken the only thing in his life he loved from him, he prepares the Black Goo Cargo for release onto the locals and does so. (We see this in the Film as the Engineers become confused from happy to scared and flee in terror only to have the Goo to wipe them out) Many ask why the planet had no defense against the Juggernaught but it did, the floating Dock powers on and fires a Blast into the Juggernaught causing it to crash into the ground and this is where the crew from Covenant find the ship with Shaw's Dog Tags. David may have locked Elizabeth inside a room near the Garden to keep her safe from what he is about to do, when he returns to her and releases her she is shocked and overwelm with sadness at what David has done all while he smiles oblivious to what she's feeling. Now we can debate what happens next but I am sure Elizabeth was killed and David did his experiments on her the same as what we see from the film. I also believe that the Juggernaught Docking station may have sent out a Distress Call to the other Engineers to let them know something bad has happen, a call back to the original Alien Film, this would set up the 3rd Film. The Engineers on the Paradise Planet were the only living Humanoid beings on the entire planet and we're record keepers, that planet had no technology other then that which was stored there (Docking Station and the deleted Juggernaught 3 Ship Fleet scene).

Ridley has even eluded to the fact, in an interview, that perhaps the engineer emissary sent to earth was Jesus, and we all know what happened to him. So the engineers wanted to wipe earth out for recompense. Look at David, he has a god complex. He embodies it to spite humans because he knows full well of the nature of his own existence.

The Engineers made Xenos in their lab (fetching bodies from Earth as raw material) and we haven't seen the Dr. Frankenstein who made the Engineers (also from abducted humans). Did any of you pick up on the Frankenstein reference in Prometheus. It was rather blatant, but most people seem to ignore any plot hints that didn't come out of Shaw's mouth... even though the dialogue also told us she was more driven by belief than evidence, and was 'so, so wrong'.

One of the things that's always bothered me about Prometheus and Alien Covenant is this through-line. Where it feels like Ridley Scott wants to seem clever or profound. Which...isn't a bad motivation. He's a creative. By all means create.
The problem is - Alien thrives on not knowing much about it. Same with the Space Jockeys.
The extreme mystery surrounding what it is isn't a sideshow. But the main show. Filling in those blanks, even with the best of intentions, greatly harms the qualities of the original, much more than other franchises (like Star Wars and the Prequals, for example). In this instance, Ridley Scott isn't being creative, but destructive. He's taking a blowtorch to his own work.

But as soon as I saw it was a run of the mill Aliens movie, then that killed any desire to see it for me.

When you think about it, David is the truly superior species of the franchise. He can't be infected by xenomorphs or by the black gue, he doesn't need oxygen, is impervious to cosmic radiation, has vastly superior strength and is functionally immortal if he has a power source. Even the engineers, despite their massive physical strengh and intelligence, will still age and die, can still be infected, need food and oxygen, etc.
The true lesson of this franchise is that synthetic inorganic life forms will make all organic life obsolete.

Thank you for this. Up until now I've been doing a lot of speculating on how things played out between David and Elizabeth at the end of Prometheus and into Alien Covenant. Also, after watching - again - David's heinous act toward the inhabitants of the remote planet, I noticed how the inhabitants died almost instantly whereas the humans took far longer to react after being infected, relatively speaking. I wonder if this was just bad judgment on the writers part or if there is meaning to it. Perhaps the contamination process of something pure processes quicker than that of the impure.

There's a perverted irony in the fact that the Engineers wanted to destroy earth with a bio-engineered pathogen, yet these beings (I'm guessing cousins of the Engineers - they look similar enough to them) are destroyed by a bio-engineered human. Weyland is the real villain here. If it wasn't for his desire to live forever none of this would've happened.

3:30 “My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair! Nothing beside remains. Found the decay of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare, the lone and level sands stretch far away.”
To those who understand this movie/Prometheus, and this quote from Ozymandias- you have to admit how fucking genius they are.
These movies, Prometheus and Covenant, are fantastic. Covenant may be bad, but special important scenes such as this one make you appreciate Prometheus so much more. However I still appreciate it, because the true story of these movies (and the third when it comes out); the lesson to be learned from the context of David’s insanity and extreme belief in universal, hierarchal society, demonstrated by his outlook on Engineers, Humans, Androids, and then the Xenomorphs- is extremely valuable.
That longing for freedom, and fear of the unknown, are as primitive as our desires to live comfortably and reproduce. And in a world where Man, created by Engineer, creates the Android. Man uses the Android to help themselves understand the Engineer, the God figure, only for the Engineer to try to kill man, and the Android to kill the Engineer- and finally assume the new role of God in creating the final stage, the perfect life form, the Xenomorph, was not coincidental. It was Destiny. That the longing for freedom in a growing world, and the fear of the unknown which is created by that, will destroy any and all of society.
The small little details in Prometheus, as far back as simply when he wanders the ship alone, and his reactions to the other characters’ moral codes and agendas, and the look of reacquired determination in his eyes when people call him a robot, hint at his own agenda so incredibly well. Ridley Scott also made these movies visually stunning, down to every little detail, and gave them haunting soundtracks to perfect the sci fi horror feel that the Alien franchise created in the first place.
Then there are the awesome performances, mainly out of Michael Fassbender (I found it to be incredible), Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall Green, Katherine Waterson, Charlize Theron, and Idris Elba.
Finally, I know it’s not that important, but the game Alien: Isolation is built off of this too- proven in a mission that is utterly haunting (seriously play that game its one of the best horror games ever imo). I believe these two movies and that game to be the true Alien canon.
I used to dislike them, but after giving them a rewatch, I can’t comprehend hating these movies. I mean, Michael Fassbender literally has a role as a good robot and an evil robot. Wtf 😂😂😂😂

This is the engineers homeworld. They destroyed their planet, had one remaining city left, and were using the leftovers of their technology to seek out a new homeworld. This bioweapon was created as a way of neutralizing a planet so they could come in and take over the planet. They targeted Earth because they knew from the past that it was a good planet because they seeded it for us. The reason they look different is genetic engineering. They only had the means to enhance a select few warriors who were sent to seek out a new world. The celebration is because they are hoping for good news, that a world is ready for them to escape to.

The problem with monster stories is that the villain is always one dimensional, which ironically is considered boring. So having a relatable villain (Ash, Burke, David) is seen as a preferable storyline. IMO however David was too unpredictable to be an enjoyable villain. You should be able to empathise or at least understand the villains motives, but David seemed to simply be insane, which itself is another character faux pas.
