My goal is to commute for cheap. I hate spending $ on fuel for the truck unless I'm hauling something or it's winter. If I had started riding motorcycles 20 years ago with the rest of my friends, then I probably would have eventually graduated to something like an R1 within a couple of years and spent some time on the track. But I'm getting to old to push my luck, things take longer to heal. 30-50 hp is plenty of power for me, and more than enough to break a few laws (or bones) on the road - not that I would, but responsible riding doesn't require any more power than what a 300-400cc machine would provide.
The r1 has been my favorite motorcycle ever since I first saw it in the fast and the furious. Then I saw one ridden by one of the lifeguards by my local pool in blue and I fell in love. Every single generation since then has been in my opinion a very good looking motorcycle and are still reliable and can be serviced by any dealer in the nation.
I have the 2012-2014 model R1. It has traction control, that also has some intrusion on wheelies if you're on the right mode. On my bike, it's almost 100% stock, I'm able to ride about 6-7 hours if I really push it. I just took a trip around OC Maryland that lasted about 6 hours. The only thing aching was my neck and my wrists.
I agree completely that most mortals don't need a liter bike. A 600 supersport has far more ability than most riders can ever hope to use. The one complaint I have about 600s is that you shift a lot more. It's more important to be in the right gear all the time. "Rowing through the gearbox" comes to mind. You can also learn A LOT about riding by just sliding around a 100cc dirt bike. Also, be sure to turn off the front wheel ABS on the R1 at the track. You do NOT want that kicking in as you're braking hard going into a corner.
I ride a V4S in street mode at the reduced power level (power delivery is customizable within in all three modes race, sport, and street). Throttle response is also adjustable in all three modes, riding with progressive now [vs performance). Max power is around 120hp ish in reduced power/street mode vs the 214 the bike is capable of with power maxed out.. I absolutely adore the flexibility the V4S represents. I can adjust the bike to be enjoyable on the street and the track with the push of a button and know that I am not wasting any potential. Instead I am using the bike to the extent of its features. Having said all that it requires a lot of maturity to refrain from just maxing power in all settings and looping the bike into a tree or guard rail.... new riders not a good fit with this much power. Cheers
@@Fee.1 Ducati makes the Panigale "V4S". Honestly there are less expensive more reliable options with same or similar features.. I like the V4S because it fits me, but admit that the expense was hard to justify when compared to similar offerings from other manufacturers. Best advice if you are looking for it... ignore the hype around HP and TQ, and be honest about your riding intentions. HP is a marketing tactic, and is almost irrelevant with modern electronics. I love the Yammie Noob view point on speed and HP and agree with him that HP is way over hyped for street and even track which is why I highlighted the fact that my bike can be dialed back to suit my needs even if it means giving up 40 percent of its available hp. The V4S has WAY more to offer than just ballistic speed. Focus on what fits you, talks to your soul, and keeps the shiny side up... that said if there was an equivalent sub 800cc class bike, I would own it.
Track bike selection comes down to budget. Seat time is the number one factor for progress with coaching being a close second. You have to pick something where the running costs aren't going to impact your ability to get seat time and help. For most people that's going to mean something small. The learning "advantage" is vastly overblown when people talk about smaller bikes. Money is the real issue.
I agree with Mr. Young ADV. I've had plenty of front tyre locking moments. Get abs, then as you ride more try to practice your braking on something without it.
Get whatever you think you can ride. I know people that started on 1000ccs fine. Some people started on 600ccs and were not okay. Some start on Busa. Some start on groms or other 125ccs. It's upto how you feel.
Regarding insurance, it is amazing how "cheap" insurance can be for a liter bike nowadays. In my case, I got my M2 endorsement in August 2019 at the age of 34. I bought a 2019 Yamaha R3 as my first bike. For insurance, I ended up with Progressive paying $1,620 for one year of insurance (Geico had quoted me $1,950). Two weeks ago, I traded the R3 for a 2020 BMW S1000RR. For insurance, I ended up with Geico paying $1,690 for one year of insurance (Progressive had quoted $1,530 just to complete the year I had started on the R3). It will really depend on the company as to the actual cost of insurance.

how much horse power a human got?
got a couple in my basement and idk how effective it would be
I could never convince myself to spend 16k on a bike, yammie
While I agree with you, I also believe that people should do what makes sense to them. Riding can be an escape from the bullshit. Is happiness worth 16k? For some, it is. And they’ll pay it gladly.
Anything above 100 hp is is either serious skill and track riders territory ,or compensation for small penises and weak erections . Also premature ejaculation .
why is he saying you dont need 200hp, he doesn't have a 200hp bike. lol, anything for a catchy title
YAMMIE BE MY DAD
2015 to 2017 Yamaha R1 blew engines and transmissions in the thousands . Great bike for free but dont buy one . I own both Japanese and Euro Superbikes. The ONLY model i dont own is the R1. Was going to buy one but mechanic friend and 3 other buddies bought the 2016-2017 R1 ALL blew engines and 2 have blown transmissions . Yamaha good company they just rushed R1 into production

We don't NEED motorcycles there awesome not practical that's why we buy them there insane that's the point lol
The R1 does not have 200 horsepower
And where did you hear that
Ok 198 hp
Almost 200hp. Would still kill you if you're not careful regardless of not having over 200hp
