I'm german and I know the lyrics, however I have watched this video several times to get the deeper meaning about all german history. You will discover more and more details after watching it again. It's a masterpiece. Ruby Comney represents Germania and different scenes through 2000 years of German history are shown: Germania Magna (Invasion of the Romans), witch hunting in the medieval age, first and second world war, Hindenburg, Holocaust, the separation an reunion of the German Democratic Republic, the RAF terrorism,...
This was my first "serious" introduction to Rammstein, though I knew a couple of songs from earlier. But now I'm hooked!
Yes it's right, it's about German history. The dogbreed is German, called Leonberger, and I think I read somewhere that that breed almost got instinct in the world wars, but just barely survived. A sort of Phoenix story maybe? New beginnings? They also showed German Shepards, also obviously a German breed. And when Till (the singer) was dressed up as a woman, he most likely portrayed Ulrike Meinhof, one of the founders of The Red Army Fraction (RAF), a left wing terrorist organisation from the '70s. That very first opening scene marked the "beginning" of Germany, when the Romans attacked the Germanic tribes (that's what the Romans called them, they had little to do with each other), forcing them to bond together to fight their common enemy.

I feel you, I also don't speak German but I like listening to Rammstein. Also my literature teacher says that singing of nightingale bird is enchanting yet you don't understand what the bird is saying so don't try to look for the meaning all the time, if it sounds good to you it's enough satisfaction from the piece :)

There are a metric gigaton of ready translated Lyrics for any Rammstein Song and you can read anyone of it before you react to the Video, because i didnt know any Video, where the Text Spoilers parts of the Video. And it will be very surprising, if Rammstein start to do this.
