    Kevin, I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos because you actually GROW your plants! We see how they've struggled in the past, then see the fruit of your perseverance. This is so refreshing as I find too many youtube plant celebrities simply buy lush beautiful plants and talks about plant care as if they actually grew the plants to that size. I find your content so authentic! I would love to see a video focused on your rehabbed plants and their journey!

    In my experience paraiso verde will look its best when they are in hotter places. All of my local plant sellers who are based in cooler cities tends to have greener paraiso verde, meanwhile my local plant sellers who are based in hotter cities always have brilliant paraiso verde to sell.
    So if you can somehow put them in hotter area or increase the temperature while still giving them lots of light, it’ll get their pattern back. I hope this helps 😊

    For Paraiso Verde they need some direct lights. The more they are exposed to sun, the more variegation they will have. It is some kind of defense mechanism from the plant. Here at my place in Jakarta, Indonesia, I put them outdoor, with lots of sunlight and heat and humidity...that is the condition they are happy the most.

    Thank you for the videos! Did you figure out the Philodendron Paraiso Verde. Same thing happened to mine! Apparently I was giving it TO MUCH light! If you give it higher light the leaves turn solid green. If you drop the light levels the mottled variegation comes back. I heard kept hearing and reading more light but it was the opposite. Also my leaves start with very little variegation and as the leaves start to harden off it comes out more! Good luck happy growing!

    I really love it when you drop leca on the floor. I think your next philo paraiso verde leaf on the smaller plants will be dotted and mottled. When I bought mine, it had one very mottled amazing leaf and 2 green leaves. The next leaf had dots and mottling. It is now giving off very mottled leaves regularly. Mine is really big and tall and has aerial roots everywhere and it seems to be growing bark on it’s lower stem.

    I have all my philodendrons in pon, but I don't use self-watering. I just water them like my other plants in soil. I think they like to dry out a bit between waterings unlike thirstier plants like syngoniums or anthuriums.

    • @kevin.
      @kevin.  Před 3 lety +1

      Oh cool! Yeah that's what I was thinking! I think I kept them too wet. Do you think they do well in pon?!

    • @aniliname
      @aniliname Před 3 lety

      @@kevin. Mine are definitely happy. I just had issues with a large verrucosum. It didn't adapt well but my little verrucosum is thriving in pon and much more resilient than the big one in soil. So I think with really sensitive or finely rooted plants it might be better to put younger, barely rooted plants in pon to adjust better (although that's the only plant I've had react that way with pon). But my melanochrysum, squamiferum, prince of orange, black cardinal, burle marx, florida ghost, micans, birkin, selloum, and subhastatum really love it. They had growth spurts when I moved them, and, of course, grew super thick new roots. I have them in clear orchid pots and water them every 7-10 days.

I have 1 paraiso that I grew indoor in our living room... it barely gets light. The leaves were getting smaller and greener. Once it was moved outdoor, the leaves slowly getting more and more molted. I find they enjoy direct morning sun. Don't give up! Paraisos I find never truly revert.

      @@kevin. I'm glad I can help! Which is why if you notice, most PVs that were imported/shipped from the tropics to non-tropics climate normally tend to get greener. Honestly I rarely see people here in the US/Canada with PVs that have high minty var, unless they keep it in a greenhouse or cabinet. Especially during winter, you see most people's PVs are greener and grow slower due to weather being cooler and less light. I'm sure your baby will throw out more var! Oh no! If it's all rotted away, I would put it in water and wait till new roots come in. I usually change the water ever 2 days

    I guess with the Paraiso's variegation is dependent on heat. More Variegated with higher heat.

      @@kevin. if you're still undecided about it, it can actually be a little easier to prop crawlers than climbers! especially if you keep a few nodes on one propagation, they can often have more established roots already in the substrate! I also believe that gloriosum don't size down much when you propagate them! Caitlin from Plant Life in the Tropics just did a whole week of videos on Gloriosum, and she propagated hers as well with great results (she also grows hers in either full or semi-hydro too) :)
