  • How raising quail may be the right fit for your homestead!
    Quail University: solutions.heartwaymembers.com/
Today Josh is talking with Zack from ‪@MyshireFarm‬ about the pros and cons of raising quail on your homestead. They go over the benefits of quail, and how they can be the best starting point when becoming self-sufficient, allowing you to grow your own meat and eggs. The great thing about quail is you can have them almost anywhere, even in a neighborhood backyard since they are so quiet and require so little space.

Really awesome discussion on quail! Thank you for setting it up and sharing it with us, I learned quite a lot just from this video. The Quail 101 course sounds great for someone wanting to dive deeper. 💚🥚

Last spring I ordered 25 jumbo wild eggs from Zack and love them. This year I got 90 on order for the first week of April delivery. I plan on keeping them going through the Illinois winter this year. These things lay 300 eggs a year. Last December before I go rid of my birds I was getting 18-22 eggs a day from 24 hens. I was eating, pickling, freezing and giving a lot of them away to friends.

😅I'm in Prince Edward Island Canada. It can be snowing here and flowers blooming in another province. The statement "it was six degrees in Canada" cracked me up. It was said for all the world as if Canada is a tiny place and everywhere in Canada is the same weather.

Hey Josh! We live in Southern Ontario, within City limits, however because we are surrounded by what used to be farm land, we are classified as agricultural and can legally have 10 chickens in our backyard! We would love to have egg layers, however, in order to keep good relations with neighbours - we DO NOT have chickens. I've heard so many negatives: the smell, the noise, the attraction of rodents etc.. This video has me thinking hard about quails........ thanks for the information, the perspective of a newbie, and the possibilities!!

Thank you for your support and encouragement! The nice thing is that even with some minor setup and initial cost they are worth trying out for a while to see how they work out. The cost, risk, and input is low enough to go for it :)
