Flight Of The Conchords
HBO One Night Stand
Bret :
Yeah uh-huh yeah yeah
They call me the, Rhymenoceros not because I'm fat,
Not 'cause I got birds on my back
But because I'm horny, (I'm Horny!)
When I'm on the mic I'm like global warming you can't ignore me,
In bedroom, I'm the gentleman the ladies come before me,
Check your Yellowpages I'm a registered Rhymenocologist
Now I'm passing over the mic to the, Hipopopotamus!
Jemaine :
Yeah they call me the Hipopopotamus, my lyrics are bottomless
Bret :
Sometimes, my rhymes are polite like, "Thank you Mrs. Johnson for dinner that was delicious, goodnight."
And other times they are obscene like a pornographic R-18 dream, about bitches smothered in margarine, haa haa haa haa, haa, (Gun Noises)
Jemaine :
They call me the Hipopopotamus, I got flows that glow like phosphorous, popping off of the top of this esophagus, I'm not a water-dwelling mammal from Africa that's moved to the metropolis and been taught how to break dance, where did you get that preposterous, hypothesis, did Steve tell you that?
What's he got to do with it?
What kind of rapping name is Steve?
Steve...
Bret :
Other rappers (Dis Me)
Say my rhymes are (Sissy)

Bret :
What 'cause I rap about reality? Like, me and my Grandma having a cup of tea.
Bret and Jemaine : There ain't no party like my Nana's tea party, Hey! Ho!
FreeStyle Begin
Bret :
Freestyle! Hipopopotamus! Freestyle, Hipopopotamus Style!
Jemaine :
I'm Freestylin'! Just saying what comes into the top of my head! Like it's just, R-Random! R-R-Random!
Umm, Oooooh! Ooooh!
There's a picture of New York! There's a picture of New York! There's a big, fat, crazy picture of New York!
I'm just free- New York! Fre-Freestyling the- Picture of New York! Freestyling!
Sometimes When I freestyle, I loose confidence....
FreeStyle Ends
Jemaine :
My rhymes are so potent that in this small segment, I made all of the ladies in the first two rows pregnant.
Yeah that's right sometimes my lyrics are sexist, but you lovely bitches and hoes should know I'm trying to correct this cause...
Bret :
When I say "Oooh" all the ladies go "Ahh",
"Oooh" ("Ahh"),
"Oooh" ("Ahh"),
When I say "Oooh" all the fella's go "Arf Arf",
"Oooh", ("Arf Arf"),
"Oooh", ("Arf Arf"),
But keep it really sexy fella's,
"Oooh", ("Arf Arf"),
"Oooh", ("Arf Arf"),
That's my dogs
When I say "Oooh" all the ladies got "Oooh, Flight of the Conchords, You're so Big!",
"Oooh", ("Oooh, Flight of the Conchords, You're so Big!")...
Ooh, Wow. Thank You, Wow.
Jemaine :
Thank You ladies, you didn't have to say that. - Komedie
No one ever gets my "be more constructive with your feedback" reference but I'll keep using it until we all are using it
I support your persistence!!
Didn't realise until just now, but same.
I always mention hot ham water from arrested development when I see those bad cooking videos on TikTok. No one has gotten it yet
It’s ok mate, I’ve got a head full of early 90s golden era Simpsons references that are completely wasted on my 25 year old work colleagues 🤷🏻♂️
Why?
the only two rappers Eminem was afraid to diss
Eminem did a diss track to FOTC years ago dude.
@@adiscontinuedchannel5843 Yes I know the song is a joke. And your comment may be a joke, but Eminem did a joke diss to this track.
@@adiscontinuedchannel5843 It was years ago. Sorry dude, you will just have to look for it.
@@leegibbs5317 which one?
@@leegibbs5317 couldn't find it
"They call me the Hiphopopotamus, my lyrics are bottomless...."
*pause*
That part always gets me XD
I can never tell if the joke here is that his lyrics are "endless" & then he has a brain fart or if his lyrics are "bottomless" meaning there's no punch or finish to them.
@@FlamingZelda3 i think the joke is that his lyrics is botomless, meaning he never runs out of thing to say, which is why its so funny when he pauses right after he said it.
Such dope mc names for a joke
my teeth are dangerous so i spit watermelons
Right up there with Bo Burnham's one liners. You're incomparable, like a....
Considering that most of the joke is built around them being lousy rappers, they come up with some damn good rhymes.
Wouldn't work otherwise. There needs to be a juxtaposition.. Otherwise they would just BE lousy rappers.
Agreed, the multi rhyming of hippopotamus was impressive
@joesretrostuff why? Be more constricted with your feedback 😂
This entire show was like a greatest hits album. Every song a classic.
Truly.
“My lyrics are bottomless” gets me every time
That part is amazing.
There are some lines from Flight of the Concords that never fail to get a laugh out of me. This is one of them.
"They call me the Hiphopopotamus I got flows that glow like phosphorous, popping of the top of this esophagus, I'm not a water dwelling mammal from Africa that's moved to metropolis to be taught how to break dance, where did you get that preposterous hypothesis"
I believe them when they say they invented rap in New Zealand
+brohoelikeacholo Did Steve tell you that?
Fucking Steve
+Man Of Steel what's he got to with it?
What kind of repping name is Steve
... Steve
Steve is New Zealand's other rapper. I am told he's a lovely guy and very friendly.
What's he got to do with anything?
Hi. Steve from NZ here. Hope everyone’s having a great day.
This rap is considered "explicit" in NZ because it features confrontation of another rapper. Steve would never do that
Did Steve tell you that perchance?
but he didn't show up for roll call so he's out
Brilliant little detail - Bret hitting the harmonics during the “all the ladies in the first two rows pregnant” line.
YES! And specifically on the word “pregnant” - so tasty.
Poetically my favorite part

13 years later and it still never gets old
It's more than 13 years, most likely more than 20 years iirc this was in the early 2000s. Still it definitely never gets old!
years later this still makes me smile these lads are pure genius :)
It's been 2 years Niall - time to return

"Did Steeve tell you that?" Still cracks me up 🤣
What kind of rapping name is Steve? Steve…
@@jAug94, I always tell my kids that I should have been a rapper because I could rhyme at any time, like I did just there.
I guess it was never meant to be because of my name, Steve.
"sometimes when i freestyle...i lose..confidence" lmao
What We do in the Shadows led me to this. This lead to their series. The first ANYTHING that has had me in tears, laughing so hard!!!
What you mean? This from Flight of the Conchords
Be more constructive with your feed back ...why lol gets me every time
Jermaine got some serious comedic timing. Both fucking great but the end got me good!
Hey guys! My dad took me to one of your gigs at this teeny tiny theatre in Wellington called Bats theatre I think it was 1999 because I guess I was around 8. I was absolutely blown away and thought you were amazing, I remember going to school and telling them about this song haha. At the time none of them had heard of you but of course a few years later everyone knew your names and songs. My dad passed a few years later and this is still one of my favourite memories with him so thank you for the amazing show, we had the best time ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Very sweet.
I wish they'd get back on this type of performance again--this is pure gold!
I’ve been having to force myself to laugh lately. Glad I found these guys again. I don’t have to force a laugh. It comes naturally.
Besides the band and the TV show based on them the guy on the left (our left) is also the creator of the shows What We Do in The Shadows and the related show Wellington Paranormal, Jemaine Clement.
@@arnodk2852the guy on the left hey. 🤔
I watched the show and listened to the songs and never connected them lol
Great, I'm in love with Jemaine, I knew this would happen
happens to all of us, i'm a guy and so am i
He's lovely!
You didn't happen to be in one of the first two rows at this show?
Same! How could anyone not be?
Do you have a picture of his lips in your wallet?
"Aint no party li ke my Nanas teaparty" 😂😂😂😂 im in love.
It's criminal this only has 3m views. Without this, the entire folk-parody / gangster rap genre wouldn't exist as we know it
Love that the crowd genuinely loved this as much as I did - big props to them
Rhyming dream with margarine. Bold.
serious talent happening here, comedy aside....keeping this flow isn't for everyone
My lyrics are bottomless.............................................................,............

Listened to all their songs to death in high school, now like 12 years later I can finally "rediscover" ands appreciate how hilarious their material is, with all the lyrics just waiting to come back.
On a Flight of the Conchords binge with their Vampire show on the horizon.
Hitting the harmonic at 3:20 is a very nice touch, literally
Wish there were more of this... still cracks me after all these years
This is one of their best live performances of this song.
When you are allowed to be creative this is what happens.
These guys will always be severely underrated
This is so awesome, Jemaine is just like white Moss from IT Crowd
Jemaine is half Maori so he’s not really white either
Ooh! Flight of the Conchords! You're so big!

Thank you ladies, you didn't have to say that:)
This whole song is worth it simply for the very end
the delivery of that last line 🤣
"My rhymes are too potent I'll end this small segment. I made all of the ladies in the first two rows pregnant,"

I used to date a guy who looked just like Jermaine except he was bald and couldn't sing. Broke my heart true story...
