How good is the New amp modeler by Fender? Is the Fender Tone Master a Helix & Fractal Axe-Fx killer?
QUAD CORTEX users finally got the updates they've been promised for 2 years. It was very nice of Fender to step and honor Neurals promises
Haha well said!
@@TONEWARSgearshowtee hee

What I love about this channel is you seem the most ‘normal’ of any review guy. You look like you could be my neighbor… yet have some of the best insight and non buzzword real passion behind it. Kudos
Hello Jarrod , thank you for doing this video if you watch Ola's video he was able to put 2 cabinets on the same amp with 2 different mic's, the cabinets are in parallel
The TMP has the BEST user interface out of all of them. Hands down. Not even close. The interface is a game-changer.
Having said that... a few negative points: Price is too high. It should come with a matching expression pedal. Limited amps and effects at launch. We don't even need an editor, the Interface is so easy to use. I would probably only use 3 or 4 of the amp models. The EVH Stealth for all the dirty stuff, and a couple of the Fender cleans. The design team spent a lot of time trying to nail the EVH Stealth channels. The EVH guys signed off on it, so they got it really close to the real thing. The Fender guy explained why modeling is better than profiling, and I think I agree with what he said. The Fender TMP directly competes with the Fractal FM9. The FM9 is it's closest competitor. The FM9 beats the TMP in terms of "tweakability", but the TMP crushes the FM9 with the super slick user interface. If I had to choose between those two units, i'm not even sure what I would do. The FM9 can do more, but the TMP is so easy to work with. If Fender can lower the price a bit, include a matching expression pedal, and provide regular updates, I think the TMP would dominate the market.
I don’t agree with the price point statement. The quad cortex was said to be the most powerful unit on the market being that it had 4 cores, but the TMP has double the cores at 8. It is currently the most powerful modeler on the market.
@@gwynbleiddroach2589 We don't know that, because Fender won't release the specs on the CPU, or the RAM it has. I still think the QC and AxeFX III are just as powerful if not more so. More cores doesn't always mean something is "better".
The fenders price is way lower than the fractal FM9 . I own both and the fender TMP other than the capture feature kills the FM9 . I swear I'm hoping fender adds to capture feature I know they can in a firmware update but will they.
@@TheCyberMantisMore cores means faster less stress on the whole system. I think that's where the feel comes in on this unit.
@@stringsattached67 The TMP is not "way lower" than the FM9. The TMP is $1,699. The FM9 is $1,799. The Fractal does not "capture" anything. You must be thinking about the Quad Cortex. ALSO: my original comment did not age well. Because now we know the TMP is full of bugs. Will Fender be quick and reliable with the updates? They don't exactly have the best track record with stuff like this. TMP does not "kill" the FM9. FM9 smokes the TMP. The TMP does have a nice UI tho.
Thanks for making this video! I got the Tone Master a few days ago and tried your settings and they sound fantastic. 🤟
My pleasure and thank YOU!
First impressions after 6 minutes: This is the first video where I like the sounds - might be your playing style - greez from Germany!
I think you can do a parallel signalchain and put 2 cabs parallel, then there is a mixer to blend and pan them. And where QuadCortex has 4 cores on the processor, that has 8 cores, so processingpower is plenty. Some representative mentioned updates every 6 months.
How do you feel this model of the stealth compares to the real thing? I'd love to see a vid comparing the model on this and maybe the Quad Cortex with the real deal
I second this!
3rd
4th! 🎉
I have to say it has nailed the Stealth sound, it sounds exactly like mine does 👍
Scribble strips are simply the best feature of any unit. I couldn't stand the QC because of that. Headrush Gigboard and Core show the readouts on the screen so its stil pretty easy. My TMP is coming today and I know I will love it right out of the box.
You're going to love it. I've had mine for two months now. The sounds are amazing and the touchscreen interface is easy to use, honestly every modeler interface in this playing space/price range needs to be touchscreen. I'm still learning all the ins & outs of it but it's pretty easy to use.
Tip: make sure to set a Global EQ setting as it helps with the amp feel and sound.
@@user-mr1ku5iz8l Thanks for the tip. You must be an Alpha test as there is nothing on your channel unless you choose to be " behind the scenes" :). Keep rockin
I think I gotta stay with the QC, because of the profiling. I don't have endless cashflow so I got stay with works for me. This unit does seem pretty nice though. Straight to the point review as always. 👍
Just curious what do you need to profile?
@@jdfenix7. That's not your business, I guess.
I really don't see why Fender would stop updating this unit. They are a huge player in the guitar market and make products for musicians. They also own Presonus and are pouring tons of R&D into the Studio One DAW. Fender and the TMP is not going anywhere and we can expect many years of updates to come.
Looks like Fender pretty much hit it out of the park with this release! It even comes with a PC editor right out of the box, and I believe one can load their own IR's. Tempting! Dude, you can dial in the best high gain sounds! All the other demos I've seen on it don't come close to getting your high gain sounds!
Thank you for the kind words, and yes, I agree, they really knocked it out of the park with this unit.
I just wish for the price that it actually did profiling but that said, it still sounds really good and the interface is top-notch
@@TONEWARSgearshow: Honestly, I have to tell you I'd put my trust in Fender over that of NeuralDSP since they've burned us for way too long with the QC. I agree, they should lower the price a tad!
@@flashbak01 I'm telling ya, if this thing also profiled, it would be my first choice
@@TONEWARSgearshowwoa 😮
@@TONEWARSgearshow I don’t think (price wise) it compares to the scope of a TONEX paired with a good effects unit, Boss GX100 etc.
This unit seems really badass from all the reviews I've watched. More output choices than you'll ever need, super intuitive and it sounds better than the actual amps in many ways. I believe you can add a second cab and mic that one differently and blend them. You need to change the signal path to do that.
How could you say it sounds better than the actual amps? Doesnt that mean; it doesnt sound like them?
@@kingfisher7960nah dude said it sounds BETTER
@@kingfisher7960 Anyone that's owned tube amps understands that they are temperamental. They behave differently in every environment. Jarod himself told me the Driftwood profile on the Kemper is more fun to play than the actual Driftwood amp because the profiler had less sag. Obviously Fender was aiming to make the emulation close to the Stealth. The fact that you can fuck with mic placement, types of mics, cabinets, custom IRs...and a wide array of virtual effects gives it a tremendous gamut of possible sounds. Don't argue minor semantics.
You Knocked it out of the Park, you said everything. For their survival it will come down to UPDATES, personally I would love to see a Magnatone amp. NO ONE has those in the Modelling Rhealm. There are a couple in the CAPTURE rhealm.
Good demo and points about the profiling. To me, the profiling can always be added in an update, but Neural were just wrong to release QC without all those things they said it was going to have. They should just now be releasing it with the software to come in a couple of months.
The good part is pretty much all these things sound great now. To me, all you have to do it pick one and go with it.
Glad you talked about the feel. I know you and me both can tell there is always something weird when you dig into the strings. I like the helix unit and how easy it is to use but the feel sucks. This unit seems to be everything I want in a new Helix since L6 is slow.
Damn. I am surprised. That thing sounds really good. Seriously and I love how you give us the real tone. Not some professionally mixed example. I still love my Helix but yeah this is nice.
The UI is impressive as heck. As to the price point, the fact that it has twice as many procs as the competitors and still manages to be in the same price range is kind of amazing (especially with the brand ego pricing)
I’m holding out for now. Still have a love/hate relationship with my Helix
Man these digital floor units have come a long way.
Absolutely the best interface, especially after owning 3 fractal, Kemper and helix. I have been scouring CZcams looking for good sounds on the Tone Pro deluxe and haven't found any yet. I know there in there but can someone bring them out. This video is certainly the best I've heard so far. Keep up the great work!!!
Great video! Thanks for doing this.
I wish the starting price point was lower as well but I paid $1699 for a FM9 which is awesome but has no touch screen and the UI can be tricky. I think Fender is close to market value. I may have to pick one up and give her a go.
Good Video...
They are competing pretty fairly considering it’s currently the most powerful unit on the market at 8 cores.
Line 6 killer or QC Killer
Excellent review and demonstration, Jarrod. Well done. I just linked to your YT video over at the Fender TMP discussion thread on The Gear Page.
Cheers,
John
Thank you! I really wish I could keep one of these for more content.
I’d like to see you review a Fractal fm3
Sounds v good tbh, i thought this would suck, would love an evh stealth comparison
2nd!
That seems pretty cool! The only modeler I have is the Marshall code 100 head and I don't even use it 😅it was cheap at Sweetwater a few years ago I run it to a 4X12 cab when I use it! It's fun bought it to save my tube heads during pandemic when there was a tube shortage, this Fender unit looks cool and easy so much gear ⚙️ pops up everyday Jarrod I can't keep up man ! Thanks for your always real reviews !🎃🍁🍂🍃🎸
Holmes, Ive been playing for around 30 years....I have 4 tube amps of different ages. 2 of them are from the 80s. They havent needed tubes. And by the way they sound, wont for a while. I use them at least once a week. If your worried about tubes, please worry about Russia invading your homeland instead because its more likely.
The Tone Master Pro, the profiles look just like plug - ins, which makes it really cool?
That was a very interesting watch.Great playing and presenting.Thanks.
Jarrod : Not in depth video...Hold my coffee 49 minutes later :)
Looking forward for the in depth review so I have something to do during Christmas 😂
Awesome out of the box demo Jarrod..! Impressive for a small modeler. Great unit for someone who wants to pop it into a backpack and take to a practice or simple setup at home with monitors. Awesome job!!🎸😃
Thanks Tony! This thing really impressed me
Awesome demo as always!!
Fender: If you're listening pay attention to @44:30 to @44:48
Listen on repeat until it sinks in. You had better make this a feature in a firmware update ASAP.
Hey dude. Not sure if I have posted this before (apologies if I have), but the Mission SP1-TMP (co branded and custom paint) unlocks things like volume control, wah and a lot of cool creativity/control. Fender also made it reeeeally easy to set up the expression and the toe switch. Control up to 5 parameters at once and use the toe switch to turn off one or all effects. Be great to see a video covering this :-)
Hello Paul, great hearing from you, it's been a while.
Thank you so much for the information.
I'm hoping Fender sends me one of these units so that I can do more content with it.
The one I used in this video was borrowed from a local store called motor city guitar
Liked. But have a Q and a comment not directly related to the topic: 1. Have you had a chance to re-try profiling the REVV on HR after the last firmware update? They claimed multiple bugfixes and improvements realated to profiling. 2. It always feels like your camera is in 30fps mode, the video is tad bit less smooth compared to many other YT videos.
If they included the ability to profile and made it more affordable then it would be a winner... but as good as it is, I can't see it gaining much traction. Appreciate the down to earth review 🤟
Best review I have seen until now of this product. You are a monster to get fantastic sounds with a unit you don’t know. A true MASTER! Did you try the Mesa amps? What about them? Cheers!!! Bravo! 🥂
Thank you. I wasn't able to update the unit to review the Mesa Mark amp. I had very limited time with the unit. I'm trying to get Fender to send me one so I can do more content with it. Hopefully they will send me one
Great video man!! Very impressed with this FTMP sounds amazing!Fender I need the TMP & a EVH Frankie for Christmas!thanks 😳🤟🏻😁
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video, I was very impressed with everything on this unit.
I think it has a lot of promise
Woohhhh kinda surprised by this new modeller here, sounds fantastic and I am sure it feels good too after you have mentioned it
Just one thing I wanted to see is having seamless switching between presets if it doesn’t have scenes and also wana see that the delay spillovers are transparent and has No audio gaps while changing presets.
Wana see more video on these topics man 😊
Thanks for commenting, you can trust that the switching between presets is completely seamless
@@TONEWARSgearshow Awesome
Quite excited to see what it can do
But please do make a video demo on the switching Presets man 😊✌🏻🎸❤️
I’m glad you don’t need a manual cos there doesn’t seem to be one
SOUNDS GREAT.
You're awesome man! Great demo! I don't know if you ever did a shootout before, but how does it compare to the Headrush Prime? Which sounds closer to an actual amp sound? It looks cool!
Thank you very much... if I get a chance I'll have to shoot them out
@@TONEWARSgearshow Thank you.
I think you should reach out to Fender and get one of these units. You have dialed in the best metal tone on CZcams yet.
Thank you. I have reached out to them. Hopefully they'll send me one...its been 3 weeks since I spoke to them. Apparently, so far, they'd rather send units to CZcamsrs who do crappy, inaccurate comparisons and can't dial in a good tone. We'll see...
Fender Tone Master pro sounds bad ass to my ears, great review of this pedalboard as usual bro. .🎸🎶 is like Fender the company are coming out with better stuff for Metal ever since the Fender machette and the EVH 5150 stealth until now, great amps and creat gead.
I will love if you tried the mesa boogie amps on the unit as well like the dual rec and the mark iic+ .The evh sounded great, sounds realistic like the amp .
Hey Jarrod, great information here.
Best I’ve heard by any demo person.
How are you connecting to computer for recording this? Are you using USB? Or coming out of outputs to an interface? Right now, I’m going into my apogee diet 2 via break out cables.
Are you kinda doing the same? Or are you using SPDIF?
Would any of these scenarios after the overall tone?
Thanks in advance! 👍 ✌️
Jason
I'm connecting it via quarter inch into my mixer and then from that into my interface
@@TONEWARSgearshow thanks man! Much appreciated! ✌️
Great Job Jarrod! Ill stick with kemper and Quad!
I think if we compare all the modelers, for me the Kemper still rules the way I use it, almost all the amp you can buy or download, the effect is another story, thats in the profile or not, but look at all the backlines and guitar rigs from amateur to pro, its still Kemper
Your flamed intro is very cool man 😎
Looks and sounds great. But they’ve missed the market not having capturing. I want my real amps captured on the settings I like.
Nice sounds. Are preset switch changes seamless, or do we have “snapshots “ and “scenes “? Do it use a standard iec cable or power supply? Apologies for the “air quotes “…😂
Presets switches are seamless. It uses an IEC cable
Nice
What Fels bettet, the real amp or the Modeler?.
You make a great Job. Greatings from Hamburg
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video
Honestly, the feel is very good on this unit.
I would say that the feel is just as good as a real amplifier, and that saying a lot
Careful. If you keep playing that Fender Deluxe preset, your next video you’ll be sitting there with a Strat playing blues. 😂
Haha
Here’s the main question does it have a pitch shifter ??
You should have updated to the latest firmware and done a factory reset from the get go. I can tell from the preset list that you're not running the latest and greatest.
I wish I could have done that, it was on loan from the store and I wasn't allowed to do that
Well, for $1700, it better be good. I would choose this over an FX9...Wish it had some "power" to it (..for a cab..) Still won't replace m Kemper..It's prett badass I must admit. Good job Fender.
Great video as usual.
Thank you
Starting to like this thing. I'm all about ease of use
Same here. The interface is awesome
@TONEWARSgearshow I was watching reviews yesterday, Ola is always fun, obviously but Andertons video has the guy from Fender talking about it. Said the spent like 3 months per channel on the EVH or something like that. It's pretty informative.
@TONEWARSgearshow like a lot of your regulars. I was waiting to get your thoughts on it. I may have to get one and the cab that goes with it.
Fender had a head start with the editor for their GTX modeling amp. I'm not a metal guy, so my Headrush Prime does everything I need it to at a better price point and an even better price with their new Core model.
You can run two cabs, each with it's own mic.
would you prefer this unit or a split system like tone x and hx effects in your prior video?
I have the Fender GTX100 and most of this is in it. The GTX is $500, has a 100w, a 12” celestion speaker, and those graphics are available on the PC or Phone app. Of course this floor model has extra bells and whistles like the IRs and mic placements. So In my simple brain, the floor model is over priced (especially with no profile tech) or the GTX is a phenomenally cheap amp modeler. Regardless, great video as usual.
By the way, Fender has a reputation of not following through with updates. If Fender brings new models to the market (more Mesa, Bogner, Soldano, MB, ENGL, etc…) then I might see jumping on one.
Folks : looks really nice but IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE!!!! You are entering the modeler game now, you do not have a tradition and consistency as a software/hardware company and you are already charging this product as top notch. I’m sorry, but it’s not.
beside a great UI you are not offering anything different than other modelers. The IRs you are offering are not drastically different or better than the modelers in the market cheaper than Yours)- honestly, Fractal IRs are better than yours.
Would I buy this modeler: if it was cheaper, yes. At the current price tag, NO WAY!!!!
And by the way: I am a huge Fender Fan!!
What speaker system are you using? I would like to see the fender speaker test. Thanks.
Currently I'm using the Kali Audio in8 monitors
This is almost an Overloud TH-U clone. I like it.
Alright, alright, Alright! Let's go!!!!!!!!
It's a wait and see with Fender. What kind of support they have for it over the next couple years. They have no track record with this where Helix and Fractal have a proven history of support. Helix especially, Fractal has dropped support for some older products. Fender will have to prove themselves.
Hi, man! I have a qustion: in a recording scenario is it ok to make sublte changes in the tone of your guitar from one track to other? For instance, if I'm using the amp X for all the tracks it would sound ok if in some of the tracks I blend the amp X with amp Y and in some other the amp X with amp Z, but trying to make the amp X sound the standard one for the majority of time?
Thank you!
Not only is it okay, but I totally encourage it.
It makes things sound bigger when you do that, I typically blend 2 different amplifiers with my recording tracks.
Try blending an amplifier with a more round top end with one that's more aggressive you get the best of both worlds
@@TONEWARSgearshow Thank you so much!!
I’m not sure if this is in the same realm as the Tonex with captures vs modeling, but does the Tonex hold its own (depending on capture quality) compared to this guy?
If the captures are done correctly, it can definitely hold its own against anything
Damn 1699 =1700.00😂 ! Not going to do it ! Would be nice but these days there is no disposable income, for young guys and guys gigging not for a poor old 62 young guy like me a kid of the 60's oh well 🤷 the donner arena is more realistic for a home bound guitarist. 😂
I think capturing is kinda irrelevant now with this amount of control
Can you have patches on the bottom row and toggle effects etc on the top row of switches?
Good question, I didn't dig into it deep enough to find that out but maybe it's available now or in a future update?
So no disclaimer?
Why would I need a disclaimer?
What mobile editor?
It's coming soon
@@TONEWARSgearshow We’ll have to see if that’s an actual soon or a Neural DSP soon which is over 2 years. Lol
@@DavidEidelberg haha I get it. Hopefully it'll actually be soon.
Dealers on Reverb are already sending me offers for $1400-1500. Fender absolutely dropped the ball.
more importantly...wheres your mullet?
Don't lose sight of the fact that anyone getting paid or supported by any particular brand or company product, can also throw a subtle red herring to give a favourable or less than favourable review for their main supporter of any competitors product. linking kickbacks is not a healthy start likewise, I'm out.
Cleans sound great on most modelers. Also, this thing should be under $500. NO WAY it is worth what they are asking. You can grab a FM9 for that price. FAR better unit sans the old UI.
Hitting the right price point is hard to do. Too low and it conveys "budget & bang for your buck". Priced high it's trying to convey premium product so it better knock it out of the park and have everything everybody wants. $1,700 is way too much to be lacking the amp & pedal capture/profiling other, less expensive units have. $899-$999 would be priced right in my opinion.
@@user-mr1ku5iz8l I just bought a hand wired tube amp for $400 lightly used. Sounds amazing. I then bought a few premium pedals. Amazing set up costly far less then this one thing. No thanks. Greedy price for a fancy toy. The tones are not great IMHO. I bought a FM9 Turbo also.
I agree that it should be cheaper, but under 500? Lol, yea ight 🤦♂️ 900 to 1k seems like a reasonable price for all the cool functionalities it has at launch. The sound quality on this unit is surprisingly really good. I also feel that the tone capturing gimmick is overrated tbh.
Why are you fractal schizos like this
Kinda funny…Quad Cortex costed what it did with half the processors. These guys double it, at alot less and suddenly the cat’s outta the bag, the Quad Cortex drops to the same price the day it comes out…with still half the processing?

Seems like a cool product for the technically challenged lol I dont know who else this is for though.
Far too much gain on those tones, it sounded both woofy and fizzy 😬
Pedalera para ricos. Sonido plastico filtrado . Sonido sucio. No real. Sonido no natural. Buen marqueting para sacar la pasta.
Be honest, it is mostly rubbish. What I like- the UI. The I/O, Seemless Switching. The BAD- 1980's Zoom pedal TONE. Very fizzy and digital sounding. I hope Fractal is paying attention and one day decides to update their terrible UI. Fratal tones are amazing.
There is a high end hiss on every single demonstration I've heard that is irritating to my ears. I don't think it is worth the price.
😅
I don't know, I haven't heard any high-end hiss on my end
This Fender is an eight cores machine as confirmed from one of their technicians. There is no logical reason why Fender doesn't want implement the profiling technology. The machine is super powerful, it's designed in a proper way, and sounds very good. It lacks profiling but sooner or later they will be forced to introduce this feature in the machine. You bet.
all they need is bass amps
Tutto ok.. ma Kemper Forever the best Kemper 😉
