The annual celebration of International Women's Day was initiated by the Second International Conference of Socialists, held in Copenhagen in 1910. Clara Zetkin suggested celebrating this day. One of the goals was the struggle for universal suffrage for women. Soviet Russia, and later the USSR, were the first states in the world to legislatively and officially declare equality of rights between men and women in 1917. Therefore, this holiday has taken root in our country.

In Russia, 14 days a year are public holidays, one of which is March 8. In addition, according to the law, there are 28 days of paid leave per year. Those who work 5 days a week additionally have Saturday and Sunday off. Thus, the average Russian has about 140 paid days off a year. In addition, the state pays for 1.5 years of maternity leave with job retention, and pays maternity capital of approximately $ 6,500 per child. I'd rather keep silent about free education and medicine. because probably only in Russia a free ambulance will arrive within 20 minutes. @@TravellingwithRussell There is a similar holiday in Russia, but in some ways it is probably better. Let it be still young, but it is not only about the love of young couples, but about family love, the strength of marriage bonds.🤔
Family, Love and Fidelity Day is a fairly young Russian holiday dedicated to the memorial day of Saints Peter and his wife Fevronia, who are considered the patrons of marriage in the Russian Orthodox Church. Family Day began to be celebrated in Murom, where the relics of saints are kept, in the 1990s, and in 2008 it was first celebrated outside the city.
When is the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity celebrated
The Day of Family, Love and Fidelity is celebrated annually on July 8 and is timed to coincide with the memorial day of Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom, patrons of marriage in Orthodoxy. The date of the holiday is fixed and does not change from year to year. In 2023, the holiday falls on a Saturday.
In Russia, the holiday began to be celebrated in 2008 and was considered a national celebration. However, on June 28, 2022, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree according to which the holiday became official.
The history of the holiday is the Day of Family, Love and fidelity
In the 90s, the residents of Murom restored the long-standing tradition of veneration of Saints Peter and Fevronia. They were contacted when problems arose in their family or personal life. At the beginning of the noughties, the City Day was combined with the celebration of Family Values Day.
2008 was the Year of the Family. It was then that the residents of Murom took the initiative to make the local celebration nationwide. Representatives of the State Duma and the Federation Council approved this idea, and it was also supported by the Interreligious Council of Russia. On March 26, 2008, the All-Russian Day of Marital Love and Family Happiness was established as part of a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy.
On June 28, 2022, Putin signed a decree granting the holiday official status. The purpose of this event is to preserve the traditions of family values and spiritual and moral education of children and youth.
The Legend of Peter and Fevronia
One day Prince Peter fell ill with leprosy, and no one could cure him. Then the future ruler of Murom had a dream that a peasant woman Fevronia lived in the village of Laskovo in the Ryazan province, who could help him. Peter found the girl and asked her to heal him. She agreed, but refused the money offered. Instead, Fevronia offered to marry her as a reward.
The prince gave his word that he would do so, but did not keep it. And then the disease returned and struck the man with even greater force. Peter sent messengers to the girl, she began to treat the prince again, no matter what, she did not give up and healed Peter again. Then he married her in gratitude, as promised. However, the people did not accept the commoner, and the boyars plotted. As a result, Peter was faced with a choice - his spouse or the princely throne.
He made a choice in favor of his wife. And the couple left Murom. There were many difficulties and trials ahead of the lovers, but they coped. Soon the Murom boyars asked the princely couple to return, because they could not maintain order in the city. So Peter and Fevronia lived soul to soul until their temples turned gray. When they grew old, they became monks and died on the same day - July 8, 1228. The saints were canonized in 1547. The Russian Orthodox Church annually celebrates Peter and Fevronia's Memorial Day on July 8.
      Family Day Traditions
The relics of Peter and Fevronia rest in the convent of Murom in the Vladimir region. Pilgrims come to this place and ask for love and for finding a couple, for happiness in marriage and solving family problems. It has become a good tradition to propose to your beloved on this day and register a marriage.
In addition, it is customary to give white daisies to your halves on this holiday, as this is the main symbol of Family Day, love and fidelity. On July 8, believers go to church, participate in the service and put candles to their saints, as well as Peter and Fevronia.
Every year, in honor of the holiday, various themed events and concerts are organized throughout Russia. Also on the memorial day of Peter and Fevronia, couples who have been married for at least a quarter of a century receive awards and medals "For love and fidelity."
What is allowed and what is not allowed on a holiday
On the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity, it is customary to address the saints about the health and well-being of the family, as well as to thank them for their help.
On a holiday, it is worth visiting your relatives or friends. Such meetings will serve to further strengthen relations.
On July 8, you can safely get acquainted and go on dates. Believers believe that everything will work out thanks to the patronage of Peter and Fevronia.
On the day of Peter and Fevronia, it is strictly forbidden to swear, swear, conflict, arrange scenes of jealousy.
Interesting facts about Family Day, love and Fidelity
      • Family, Love and Fidelity Day is celebrated only in Russia. Since 1994, on the initiative of the United Nations, the International Day of Families has been celebrated on May 15, but the essence of the holiday differs from the Russian one.
      • In 2006, about 20,000 signatures were collected in Murom in support of the establishment of a family holiday in Russia.
      • Initially, the holiday was called the All-Russian Day of Conjugal Love and Family Happiness.

      Popular questions and answers
Were Saints Peter and Fevronia revered in Russia?
Saints Peter and Fevronia were revered in Russia. They were honored by many Russian rulers, among others. Tsar Fyodor Ivanovich and his wife, Tsarina Irina Godunova, prayed to them for the gift of an heir. Peter I, Catherine II, Nicholas I, Alexander II also came to worship the relics of the Murom saints.
Why is the daisy the symbol of the holiday?
This flower was chosen as a symbol of the holiday for a reason. On the day of Saints Peter and Fevronia, these wildflowers bloom in the fields and meadows. In addition, daisies have been considered a symbol of love since ancient times (girls guess on the petals: "Loves, does not love"), and in the context of Family Day, they embody purity, loyalty and tenderness.

Натали, жена Пушкина, поэтесса Анна Ахматова, многие другие - они все с чудесными букетами. И мне сегодня муж, сыновья принесли и тюльпаны, и мимозу, и розы, и сладости. may hide not too pretty things behind their beautiful flower stalls.

    Hey Russell.
I was actually at that broken down dollar store today. (Cheapest toiletries).
Their new shopping carts (all but four have been stolen by questionable people) have this long pole sticking up from them.
    The ugliest thing.
    I already knew why.
The girl told me it's because the pole won't fit through the door, therefore the "questionable people" can't steal the shopping carts.😂😂😂
Well, I got into a conversation about how ridiculously expensive groceries have gotten in the US and brought up your show.
    Had her laughing.
    Enjoy your wonderful supermarkets!

I simply bought a branch of mimosa from a swarthy Southerner not far from home. I chose a thicker branch and paid more. Today is not the day to be a miser)
And I bought red roses for my lovely wife month ago for her birthday.
And besides that, you should definitely have a gift, at least a small one, as a sign of attention

    • @user-zo2zh9ts1j
      @user-zo2zh9ts1j Před 5 měsíci +6

In the European part of Russia, roses are mainly from Africa. There are also Russian roses, but they are cheaper and sell out quickly. Russian roses are better - they smell, but they have short stems. Tulips are mostly Russian. In the Asian part of Russia, flowers from China are easier to bring. But the symbol of March 8 is the yellow mimosa. It is brought from the south of Russia. A convenient flower - mimosa dries well and decorates your home all year until you get tired of it 😊

Also what is your wife’s favourite flowers and favourite colour/colours when it comes to flowers? Princess Diana favours white flowers and Forget me nots! It took a true geopolitical genius from Kreml to force Sweden to abandon its 200 years of neutrality. And without Putin's fatherly leadership, Finland would never have realized that it would join NATO - all the best to all the clones in the Kremlin bunker.

It is bad- you need to introduce it as a major public holiday. It is a day glorifying women as they are - and glorifying women rights too. It is a holiday of women in all socieal roles: as girls, wives, mothers, grandmothers - and as working woman too. It is a cause to remind everyone how women are important to the society and family. The holiday was created as feminist day originally but it became much more than a Feminism Day later as society had a need in a day like this, to make a holyday for all women to сelebrate and thank women for every good thing they did for family and society.
