@John Leiberman, Hi there, I have 50 yrs of loving this album in my heart and head. I think it's one of the best of that whole time period. I want to ask u if u have ever liked or considered the contributions of the great Bobby Whitlock. There's quite a bit of influence of his here that went on several other fabulous records in the 70's. Vocals, writing, arranging, B3 and piano. I gave it all to Duaune, as far as complimenting Eric, but analizing it years later, Bobby was solid in his own right. In the end, I love and admire all these guys beyond words. I had loved Eric since I was a 9 yr old and got to see him up close 7 times and got to get a hug on a chilly nite in Chicago about 20 yrs ago. And Lord knows, always miss Duane who seemed mature beyond his years. Peace.
John Lieberman, according to Bobby Whitlock, they had all nine of the original songs already written before they even started recording. They had already recorded a version of "Tell The Truth" in London with Dave Mason and George Harrison. "I Looked Away", "Bell Bottom Blues" and "Keep On Growing" was recorded for the album before Duane was ever involved. Duane of course came up with the "Layla" riff, and the intro to their version of "Little Wing", not to mention the smoking dual guitar tracks he did with Clapton. The cover tunes came about from the in-studio jam sessions. Duane was just the icing on an already decent cake.
@@jonlieberman7819 I read a quote from Bobby Whitlock DECADES ago in which he said ALL the best guitar parts were played by Duane Allman on that recording! So "just the icing" is REALLY lame.
EC underrated his own voice. Like many of us. It is very weird hearing one's own voice, recorded, after a lifetime of hearing it "filled" with the deeper tone of the sound conducted to the ear by way of bone. Many of us can't overcome the fright.
