    Wow, this was a very powerful lesson for me. I am about to lose a bunch of games on time trying to apply this information 😂
    Such is the learning process. Gotta take a step back sometimes to take two steps forward!
    I really like the challenge problem you gave. It pushed my reading ability to its absolute limits to find 17 points in the top right. It really only looked like a 6 or 7 point move to my untrained eye at first glance
    The funny thing is, I am pretty sure I knew all this. The presentation was just so good that a lot of things clicked in my brain that didn't before. Thank you!

      True, that kind of position requires not just reading but a bit of experience but it's worth it!

      If you're an absolute beginner, perhaps it is better to start with "Fundamentals on 13x13" on gomagic.org, as this course might be a bit too advanced for now.

    I just discovered you guys tonight. I have discovered a local Go community in my area recently that I would love to be apart of and give this board game a actual try someday. I've played go digitally many times with many variations of games/apps in my past. But watching you explain the system is done extremely well for a brand new newbie like me to grasp really easy. Time for me to binge on the rest of the videos and make a playlist with. thanks so much go magic team. :)

    I've tried hard to recognize where are the 17 points mentioned at 1:56 if white were to play first but my result appeared to be 8. If coordinates are at the top right corner and white plays it is: 4,2 ; 3,2 ; 5,1 (capturing); 3,3 (defending); 3,1 ; 2,1 ; 4,1 ; 2,2.
    So 5 points are reduced, 1+1 is capturing and 1 point in (6,1) that white doesn't need to defend anymore if black would play there first.
    That's unless there is some other line that opponents at my level would miss.

      Vadim explains this in detail in the full version of the lesson (on our platform). If White plays first and Black only blocks without adding a move, White can make a clamp tesuji at 2,2 later, securing even more points.

      @@GoMagic I know that there is a video on the platform but I'm not planning on learning to play too hard currently so I was interested in this particular situation

    The point scoring is getting so complicated. This is just from counting territory? I don't get it. Way too complicated.

      Don't give up! Scoring only seems complicated. Once you've played a few games, counting the territory becomes a fairly simple task. 👍

    You make fantastic Go content, but in this video it's quite frustrating that you make the claim that the first position is worth 17 points, but bait to your premium service for the explanation. Especially after saying you'd build up to it, so I stuck through the buildup. This makes me feel cheated of my time, and less likely to watch your other videos.

    • @GoMagic
      @GoMagic  Před rokem +5

      We are truly sorry that you felt cheated. This is merely the first lesson of a big course and it wasn't meant to bait anyone=)

      As if GoMagic would lose something if you don't watch their free videos.

      It was Baitfor the course. So wrong, it was bait.
