- In this video I go through the complete setup of the waypoint mission to create the Veritgo or Dolly Zoom shot. It's a very unique and interesting shot that is super simple to create. If you want to see how it's done then you'll want to check out this video!
Another great tutorial. It show that waypoints can be applied not only to complex tasks but also to simpler ones. I believe these shots are not difficult for an experienced pilot to do manually, but for me as a beginner would be much easier using the technique you have shown. Congrats from Brazil
You're totally right this could be done manually by an experience pilot, but waypoints just makes it much easier. Thanks for the comment, cheers from Canada😊
The heavy rock music is awesome.. works well with the videos..
Thanks! I actually had a couple people complain about the music, so I really appreciate your comment😊
This is a brilliant work around for a shot that is almost impossible to do manually (at least for me). I love your explanations and general presentation. And the music is fine with me. Thank you so much and please keep these videos coming.
Haha, me too, I couldn't pull this off manually. At least not very well. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it!
Your videos are excellent. Straight to the point with the perfect amount of detail! I love the music too - breath of fresh air vs everything else on YT. Keep em coming!
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated👍
Can't wait to try, thank you for putting out these videos
I don't have time right now to grasp this fully, but I'm "all in" this looks awesome! I'll be back to watch this a second time! Amazing stuff TY!
That's great, I'm glad you found this helpful!
Can’t wait to that when the weather is better! 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks!
Haha I've been saying the same thing for a couple months now😂
Thank you very much!! Love your tutorials about waypoints!
You're very welcome! I really appreciate the comment😊
I’ll be trying this over weekend. Great idea!!!
Have Fun 🙂
Dude you just blew my mind here. I’ve tried and tried that dolly zoom with the mini 2 so many times and I’m just not coordinated enough to get it to work right. We have the Mini 4 pro now too so this is amazing. Very cool stuff. Randy Morgan mentioned your video to me so I guess I owe him some lunch. Haha. God bless!!! Kevin
Lunch! Heck yeah! I'm going to hold you to that!
Haha, I tried to do it manually as well, but it didn't work out well for me either. I'm glad you found this was helpful!
Hey my new friend, I’ve been flying since DJI came out long ago, still have my Mavic 2Zoom which does Dollyzoom, I just did this on my Mini 4, my first attempt was fairly good. I wanted to thank you for posting this, I’m really not sure what kind of mind even thought this up, you are a good man
That's awesome, thanks for the comment 👍 I imagine drones have come a long way since you started.
I have the Air 3 and I was doing this all manually and getting pretty good at it. Using waypoints looks so much easier.
I've tried it manually too, but had little success. But yeah, with waypoints it was much easier. 👍
This feature is great. Mini3 pro sometimes can struggles to receive 2 to 3 directional commands. This definitely helps.
These techniques are awesome bro!....... I'm completely new to drones and only had my mini 4 for a few weeks, but have just tried out the dolly zoom and POI pass over shots and the results are great...I AM Spielberg! Excellent tutorial 🤘
That's awesome 🤘 glad you found it helpful!
I usually say Ron Howard! hahaha!
This is great! Thanks for sharing this knowledge! Can't wait to try it 😊
Glad you enjoyed it, Have fun!
Thanks for the tips! Love all your videos. And from a fellow YYC mini4 pro 👌🏽
That's awesome! Thanks for the comment👍
I knew that... I just didn't do it yet. LOL. Seriously so simple yet duh. Clearly defined how to video, thanks for this.
Haha that's awesome, thanks!
Excellent video, very well explained, I have enjoyed and learned a lot from this, thank you for your contribution
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for this great idea.
You're welcome 👍
Amazing technique , Thks
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice explain how to do this. I did it manually before but this makes it way easier.
Looks like you’re in Calgary.
NS here.
I tried doing it manually too, but found its really hard to get the movement and the zoom smooth and synchronized. And yes, you are correct, I am in Calgary.
Really cool thank you
You're very welcome!
Great video! I figured I'd leave this comment for someone else with a Mini 4 who almost lost their mind trying to do this like I did. Make sure you are NOT in 4k 60 fps. It took me an unspeakable amount of tries before I realized why this wasn't working for me.
Why did it not work? I understand digital zoom amount differs on the mp4 using HD vs 4K but it still works on 4 k
Haha yeah, It took me a bit of experimenting to get it working well. I'm pretty sure I always used 4k 30 fps, so I didn't run into issues in that sense.
@@andypc14 it works on 4k, just not 4k 60 fps on Mini 4. It does zoom in and out but the zoom automation to waypoint 2 doesn’t work in 4k 60 fps for some reason. I’m not sure why
Yo this is super coool!
Yeah it's a pretty cool effect, glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks so much! Great video, man
Glad you liked it, Thanks!
Nice drone video😊
Thanks👍
Thanks for sharing your experience here with this Dolly Zoom Effect..very much appreciated! I look forward to giving this a try myself soon (just waiting for the weather to improve 🙄)! Curious though, did you ever try recording this in the opposite direction (reverse the mission after setup)? If so, how did the results turn out? Anything weird or unexpected? I get that you'd want to set it up the way you've demonstrated here, for ease of subject framing/alignment purposes. But, say your imagined/desired end product clip was to be ended at 1x zoom, you'd have to record it the other way. I know in your video you show the same clip in reverse too, and that it's certainly easy enough to do that with video editing software. The problem I could foresee with that though, in certain scenarios, is that anything moving in the background (people, wildlife, vehicles) would be traveling backwards. Would appreciate any thoughts..thanks again!
First off, I too am looking forward to better weather.😬 Now as for your question, I tried a lot of different things, but I really can't remember if I tried running it in reverse. I imagine it would do a pretty good job though. If anything, you may have to make a small adjustment to one of the points to keep the subject framed the same for both shots. But I agree, you don't want to reverse the clip if there's anything moving in the shot. It's something I'll have to try.
Thanks for the tip bro
No problem 👍
Wow so much better this way
Yeah, doing it manually would be much harder.
Great video . I have one question : is the audio track you used royalty free? I’d like to use it in the dolly zoom video I will try to do .
I actually have a subscription to Envato Elements where I downloaded that audio. It does show as copyrighted, but with my subscription I'm issued a license. I'm not really sure how that works but on my video it says it's not a copyright strike, user allows content to be used, or something like that.
So does the mini pro 4 have an optical zoom? I didn’t think you could do this with a digital zoom
The mini 4 pro only has digital zoom. If it had optical zoom, I'm sure you could get even better results.
Awesome video thanks
But how do you make the zoom to zoom slowly all the time the drone is moving?
Thanks
Basically the time it takes to get from one waypoint to the next will determine has fast the zoom changes. So if you want it to zoom slower you could slow the speed of the drone between the two points. You could also add more distance between the points, but if your zoom is already set at each point that would just throw things off.
@@CreateandKaptivate brill thanks I’ll give this a go
I’ve been working on this brilliant technique today … and I need to remember to reset the zoom to 1x when setting waypoint 1 after each try!! If don’t do this, the zoom starts from where it was at the end of waypoint 2!
I noticed in the set up you never tapped on three times zoom for the second waypoint is that automatic or at what point do you set three times zoom ?
Because I had zoomed all the way in to line up the 2nd waypoint, when I set it, it takes the current zoom setting. You can see when I go into the Waypoint 2 setup to set the camera action and hover the Zoom is already set to 3x, you could also set it in there.
What speed do you recommend with a far distance?
I would use higher speeds for longer distances, but once the waypoints are setup I would try it a few times at different speeds to see what produces the smoothest results.
I tried too, but zooms not automatically or if have to do zoom manual?
Mini 4 pro with rc n2 controller
I assume it should work the same on the RC-N2 as it does with the RC2 controller. If you set the zoom to 1x for the starting waypoint and 3x for the ending waypoint it should automatically adjust the zoom between the 2 waypoints.
@@CreateandKaptivate I have to try it again
Yaa same as me. I tried on my mini 4 pro the zoom does not automatically happened
Someone else commented on this video that was having a similar issue, I'm not sure exactly what he did, but I suggested it could be a firmware issue, and he said he did a Hard Reset and it fixed the issue.
I repeated all the steps, I tried it again and again and I couldn’t get the dolly zoom at all. The drone does everything except zooming. Is it possible that something is broken inside the drone?
When you're setting this up, you should have 2 waypoints. If you tap on one of the waypoints to open the settings and scroll to the right, the 2nd last setting should be the zoom. For the first waypoint that should show 1x and for the second waypoint it should show 3x. If the zoom settings are correct it should automatically zoom from 1x to 3x as it flies from the first waypoint to the second. If it's not doing that, then there may be an issue. And since it's a digital zoom, I think that would be a firmware issue.
Thanks, mate, it was definitely a firmware issue. I did a Hard Reset and everything started working fine.
That's awesome! good to hear👍
I had the same issue. But worked fine after I changed video resolution from 4K to 1080 then back to 4K
I'm having trouble with this. When my M4P isn't zooming in as it flys back to the second waypoint. :/ Any ideas?
I recall someone commenting about having that same issue, I don't remember exactly how the resolved it, posssibly something to do with the resolution and framerate setting, and it didn't work on 4K60. I may be wrong about that, but just a suggestion. There might be something in the comments for this video or the Waypoints video.
@@CreateandKaptivate thanks . I'll have a tinker with those settings .
Can the 3 pro do that?
Unfortunately this method won't work on the mini 3 pro, because it doesn't have the waypoint flight mode.
Does this work on rc n2?
This should be pretty much the same using the rc-n2.
Does this work on M3P?
If you're talking the Mavic 3 Pro, yes! and you have more than one camera to try it on 😀
can this be done in editing?
I just responded to a similar comment, and the simple answer is yes, but it really comes down to whether you want to create stuff with you drone or with your editing software.
thanks for this cool effect.
you earned a sub
Awesome, I appreciate that 👍
Vraiment magnifique effet, mais je comprend pas je suis français
😂désolé je n'ai pas de version française
I’m doing something wrong. Tried 6 times and it won’t recognize the zoom factor in waypoints. I’ll
Have to check stuff out
That interesting, because you're not the first person to comment about that. I'm not exactly sure what the cause is, but I think one of the people that commented did a reset on the drone and that fixed it, I think someone else said they switched to 1080 and then back to 4k and it started working. I always did mine in 4K30 so that should work.
@@CreateandKaptivate I found in another video what it is. It won't do it in 4K60. 1080/60 and 4K30 is fine. I changed to 4K/30 and all is good. I just have to practice more. I put my test on my page. I just got back into drones after 9 years. Ihad a Phantom 2, way more buttons and setting to learn. Still getting my flying fingers back.

Ah, the "drony zoom"
Haha yes
far better to do this manually because it makes you a better pilot...no need for waypoints just focus on the subject, pull back and zoom in...simples
You certainly could do it manually, but it is much harder. The idea here was to show a simple way to create a cool effect.
@@CreateandKaptivate not in any way criticising you or the video...when you use automated functions you don't actually learn how to fly better.
You're being that gay guy.
@@shawnm3839 you're being that rude guy
I disagree…flying an re helicopter will make you a better pilot!, And doing this manually is very likely contrary to the amount of effort you’d expend before it looked good enough for any third party view…
This is actualy ''Dolly Zoom Effect'', cause its taken with a camera. Vertigo effect is created with video software. Maybe you want to change the title of the video.
Thanks for this video and great tip. 🙏Can't wait to try it with my Mini 4 pro.
Thanks for clarifying that! I had seen the name used interchangeably and didn't realize there was a difference between the 2. For the most part, I'm just trying to give people ideas of things to try.
what are the benefits of doing this in the drone vs in post?
Bro you can't do that in post, it requires you to zoom while also moving the camera either forward or backward with the subject in focus to do that shot.
If you have editing software that allows you to use masking and adjustment clips you could do it, but I would rather spend the time flying my drone to capture the shot, rather than spending my time editing footage to create the shot.
I'm begging you. Please stop with the head banger music. It sucks having to find the volume down at 1 in the morning. Seriously, you have good information but the music you choose and the loudness is ridiculous. Leave it off and you'll probably get a lot more subscribers.
Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep this in mind on future videos.
Go to bed
