    As a fox main since 64 I'd say it's due to him being so much of a glass cannon. Sure he's always been like that but it's ultimate its to a greater extent. As you said you drop a combo or get hit by a single move wrong, it can lead to you losing a stock. Match ups can be very volatile, and stressful to play against. Defo with all the top/high tiers with good recoveries and gimmick (not meant in a negative way) that can make it difficult for a straight forward character like fox to deal with at times.

      Yeah. As a fox ,a lot of times, i feel like in ssbu i have to outplay sooo very much the opponent to win the match

    Fox would be popular if there was less lag in default Ultimate

    the explanation of fox around 6 minutes I really relate to because it is literally my mindset on learning sheik. i feel like I'm doing so much work for so little and just die. just gotta keep working on it

    Honestly I think something that doesn't get talked about enough when it comes to "why doesn't x character get more representation" is just that the roster is massive

    I believe not many people pley fox because he just die at 60 to random strait hit, because of how light he is. That can kind of discourage to play him at gets drop quickly

    I think muteace's carried tier list can explain a bit why as well. Fox just is not a forgiving character to play, and can be difficult in bracket.
    Because he is an honest character and gets cheesed real hard, it can be super tiring and flustering to play a lot of matches with.
    While most top tiers can take damage (rob and kazuya are heavy, or gnw and steve can recover) and have cheese (pyra and joker w/ arsene can kill off a down air at like 50 or 60, or roy side B at like 60), that makes them more viable and forgiving to play in bracket.
    Because fox is execution heavy, you have to work your opponent up to 100% each time to kill, but you also can die off of one interaction, i can see why many people dropped fox in the early meta and early post covid.

    Fox player here, another reason why we don't see a lot of non light fox players at top level is because fox players are super greedy. They over commit a lot which gets the character killed quickly, that in addition to not optimizing routes, means that the risk reward that should be heavily skewed in this characters favor is quickly thrown away.

  • @Metabolica1

    I think he's just a lot more dangerous to mess up with. There's a lot of characters theses days that get away with messing up a lot cause of their range, or armored moves, etc. Fox does everything from right in your face. He has the tools to make that safe and oppressive, but only if youre not messing up and leaving holes in your offense. If you do, you're getting hit by literally everything, and you're fragile and easy to combo. There's just too many characters that are less punishing to be sloppy with for that to be appealing to all but the best players, or players who are very patiently committed to try to achieve playing at that level.

  • @russellhassan7773
    @russellhassan7773 Před 10 měsíci

    the early perception of how good he was i think is a big factor. so many smash 4 fox players dropped him when he wasn't as immediately busted as he was in smash 4 and moved on to other characters. years later if they decide to drop those characters, it's probably for the more busted dlc threats rather than returning to fox.
    i honestly never got into ultimate seriously until recently and knowing how good fox is and how to play him he's been a no brainer choice on who to play

  • @DavidSumner
    @DavidSumner Před 10 měsíci +2

    Fox is really execution heavy and dies early to half the cast which is fustrating to people trying to pick him up. Also ultimate has developed at to a hide in shield meta at the mid to high level and the most fox is getting out that is like 7-11 dammage w/ a grab.
    He is still really good and I pretty much main him, tho I also play Shotos / zss as well.

    • @luiegiii
      @luiegiii Před 10 měsíci +1

      I disagree, grab is probably one of his best tools. You don’t want to be thrown around by fox especially if he upthrows you to a platform. Allowing him to shark you is a deadly place to be. Just watch how Light is able to get kills off of upthrow or throws the opponent offstage it’s just not fun against fox when he’s in advantage.

    • @DavidSumner
      @DavidSumner Před 10 měsíci

      @@luiegiii good point I do use throws alot just cause they are free cause everyone is afraid of being combo'd .
      I should probably use up throw a lot more tho.

    The only character in Smash that has been better than Jigglypuff in all five games, which is what motivated me to learn him.
    And he’s so damn difficult because I can’t keep advantage state and lose a lot.

    I'd love to farm more matchups online, but Ultimate online magnifies every Fox player rant that you had around 8:00 lol. I think online does a massive disservice for being prepared for certain or uncommon matchups. That's my main reason as to why I dislike the character. All the other stuff like recovery and being light in weight are annoying, but honestly it's part of being a glass cannon so that's okay. It's really online ultimate that kills me. It's like playing Smash underwater lol. Online really does screw over Fox in general (aside from Slippi) and Ultimate's online is way worse than Smash 4's. Online Foxes were rare back even in 4 and I still did it lol

    If I were to ideally pick up a Spacie, Falco is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cooler. He can spike. But by proxy, I did play around with Fox from time to time but never really committed to learning him. But seeing Light bully other characters with Fox, to the point where he doesn't let them play made me commit to the character just so I can understand this character's greatness.
    Online, damn, you feel the POWER playing as Fox. And you're saying he's even better playing locally? Oho! Admittedly, the only kill confirm I do is the Nair -> Up Smash. I would enter a tourney with him but not before I learn the kill confirm where you do a Weak dash attack -> Bair on an opponent doing a get up animation at the ledge. Seeing someone get killed by that is almost as unfair as watching a Steve player block the ledge with the blocks (have you been practicing angling Rosa's Up B to bypass this and get directly to the ledge? I'm thinking of Whydo's Steve tip here ). But it looks friggin cool.
    But to answer the question, glass cannon + high execution means not really easy to win with if you're not on point. Contrast him to Samus where it's way easier to win with. But really, I just think he's not that interesting of a character otherwise. As I said before, why play as Fox when you can play as Falco who's cooler than cool? And can spike?
    And as an aside, I'm curious to know how popular Joker is (I think he has good representation? don't quote me on this). And I would like to know why Metaknight isn't more popular. He is really bloody cool to play and has the coolest F smash and Down Smash in the game.
