Using an Inventables X-carve sure opens the door to making some really amazing things! In this video, I use my CNC to help make an absolutely beautiful end-grain walnut cutting board with a contrasting maple inlay as well as a couple more features! Watch the video to see just how versatile an X-carve can be (flattening, carving, engraving, etc.) and how useful it would be in YOUR shop!
Interested in getting an X-carve for yourself? Check out the links below for more information and to custom configure one for your shop!

Special Thanks to Doug Neiner from "DN Handcrafted" for designing the title sequence. Go check out his awesome channel @ / dnhandcrafted
After having the X-carve for awhile, mind giving a review on it? Heard good and bad things and would love to hear your take.
In short, I can just tell you that at first I didn't think a CNC had a place in my shop. And now, I'm very happy to have it and am constantly thinking of projects where I can use it. There's a bit of a learning curve at first, but once you get comfortable with its capabilities, you start to see how it can be used to simplify certain tasks or to accomplish things that normally you wouldn't have been able to do. Couple that with how affordable it is, and the X-carve is a great choice. I encourage you to check out the links that take you to Inventables. There, you can configure a machine sized appropriately for your shop with as many or as few bells and whistles that you want. Plus, Easel (the CNC software) is free for anyone to sign up and tinker with. Hope that helps!

@@FishersShop I think Tommy was maybe hinting at a vidio review, however, that was a great endorsement, just by reading that has sold me at least. Oh, and of course your vidio was great, but not quite as good as your sense of humour. Yes, that's a compliment, take it anyway you like 😃👌✔
Gordon Chapman I wasn’t hinting at a video review, however, I think it would be great. I’ve been on the fence about getting one, so I am doing research. Looks promising.
@@Tommy-vt9tt I looks very promising 👍
@@FishersShop Hey, sorry for asking this two months after the video, but what size x-carve are you using? I've been resistant to the idea of a CNC, but I've decided it's just another woodworking tool, a fairly expensive one but hey, you can't take it with you.
Like how you prevented tear out on the corners with the router. I learned something. Great job.
I came here to say the same thing!
Yep. Thank you.
Same with small planes when breaking edges. Go towards the middle on the edge and inch or so then come back down the length of the edge the other way towards the inch or so you already beveled. This will prevent the edges from chipping out.
LOL THE DAD JOKES.... ALSO, love the bloopers. LOL
LOL.....maybe I'm tired but the joke in the end got me
I always appreciate the outtakes. As a beginning woodworker, it's nice to see someone much more skilled than I am still make silly measuring mistakes. Helps me not beat myself up over it.
Thoroughly enjoy your videos, content, and humor.
Glad to hear it
Thank you for sharing, especially your outtakes!!!!
Thanks for watching!
Outstanding work and an even better sense of humor.....
Thanks. :)
Wow! I think this is the first time that I actually did a CZcams video marathon. Thank you so much for keeping it real, easy to understand and love your humor sprinkled all over the place. Keep it up! I am learning more and more.
I was just about to walk outside and plane an end grain cutting board to see if that worked. This video saved me many hours of rebuilding. Thank you. 😘
Davis
Haha, yeah putting end-grain through the planer isn't a great idea. Using the CNC is perfect for it though. And on larger pieces, you'd probably have to use a router sled. Thanks for watching!
That was one of the better cutting board videos I’ve seen to date! I need to make one for my RV and I continue to avoid doing it. A video like this makes it less intimidating. While I don’t have a CNC, planner or jointer, I think I can manage something that meets our needs. Always hilarious and always informative. Thank you!!
Beautiful board. Great idea with the plate recess. That will be a feature when I actually make a cutting board for myself and not for others for once.
I really liked the bit at the end about the way the wood appeared to change color with the different angles. Really cool!
I love your cool innovative and beautiful craftsmanship
Thank you! Cheers!
That idea of a cutout for the plate is absolute brilliant
Wow Drew... time absolutely flies when I’m watching your videos. Loved this one and the finished product is stunning. The jokes at the end were also worth the price of admission. Great job!
“”Vacuuming up the man glitter” That earned you a like and subscribe!
Welcome!
I could watch these videos all day long! Thank you for sharing this with all of us and I look forward to seeing the next one!!
The plate idea had me scratching my head 😜 for a moment? Then I saw how it was to be used! Great idea 👍. Great video. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for sharing. I had the same idea with the plate recess a while back and then forgot to make it, so thanks for the help bringing the idea back. Love the way the inlay turned out

Those CNC machines open up a gizillion possibilities. Very nicely done.

Fantastic! The recess for the plate was a brilliant idea.
The plate space is brilliant!
Wow, you put a lot of thought and work into this video. Thank you!
What an incredible board! Well done. If only us mere mortals could afford a CNC, it would make short work of a lot of labor!
You’re the result when Bob Vila and Frank Howarth have a love child. I’m here for it. You rock.
Beautiful..........I see what you did here. When your wife finds out you used her favorite comb, thats when you spring the cutting board on her, Brilliant!
Really loved the quote on the board. I may create something to hang in our kitchen using that. Board turned out great! And definitely an interesting effect at the end! Never even knew "chatoyance" was a word! Thanks for the education as always!
Thanks much Mark!
Great job. Beautiful. Now I need a CNC.

Much appreciated
Beautiful!!!
This piece is so beautiful that you could probably sell them and get at least half what they are worth! Time and effort in the shop always makes my projects cost way more than anyone would pay.
Very nice work. You’re a pretty clever guy. Thanks.
