It protects the transistor from voltage spikes generated by the relay coil when it's powered off.

Saya juga lupa bang, entah karena videonya sehingga orange terlihat spt merah atau memang benar merah. Secara fungsi, adalah untuk membatasi arus yang menuju ke kaki base transistor. Jadi bisa dicoba dulu bang, kalau 10k bisa berarti arus masih cukup untuk membiaskan transistornya. Kalau tidak bisa, dikurangi lagi nilai resistornya. Semoga membantu.

basically you can use any transistor, it just perform as switch between 12v input and relay. I will make the video when I have time.

give 5v out from IR sensor to trigger the 5v relay, than apply 12v input to motor. Determine the right pin of relay.
