The whole point of Eddie Campbell’s artwork is that it echoes the style of the Illustrated London News publication that ran during the period of the murders. Black and white is definitely the best option.

You guys should have gotten an influencer award for this content it's spot on and you guys don't deviate from the story and give us great insight into Moore's story

I was 13 years old & bought Taboo #2 at Eide's in Pittsburgh. I was pretty much reading mostly newsstand superhero stuff at the time and my naive eye saw the Eddie Campbell art and thought "Uggggg!" After re-reading this story multiple times as well as the later chapters, I finally started to appreciate the brilliance of his artwork. What struck me most was the clarity of his storytelling using such a (as I called it at the time) scratchy style. This revelation is what opened up my tastes to new and often "non-mainstream" styles and led me to start reading a wider variety of comics such as Grendel, Dreadstar, Love and Rockets, American Flagg, and of course Bacchus. Thank you, Mr. Campbell for opening my eyes.

From Hell is among the best-written and researched comic book made. It's a shame the movie version was so watered down. But then again, a single movie that would cover all of From Hell is impossible, it would have been a proper series.

Due to Allen Moore refusing any money from FROM HELL, Eddy Campbell toured the Ripper sites with the money...

I see a lot of Cerebus/Dave Sim in the art and the lettering/placement of word balloons, emoting through changes in lettering.

From Hell is the one book I ABSOLUTELY reread at least once a year, every year.

One thing you may have missed at 1:38:45, quite a subtle and ingenious piece of symbolic storytelling - the placement of the hands/arms makes the Freemasonry Square and Compasses.

20:20 the Victoria framing also reminds me of Francis Bacon

I was very thankful for the color edition of From Hell because even though I love black and white art, I had a hard time making out what was going on.

With regard to the background study at 1.20, to my knowledge, Neil Gaiman helped with the research for From Hell by spending time digging in the British Library in London.

Another great book on the subject and on Victorian Britain and Masonic influences is Bruce Robinson’s They All Love Jack.

Black and white for this one of you've never read it. The color is blasphemy. One of the all time, mind-blowing greats.

I'm continuously amazed that From Hell isn't more well known / well regarded which, amongst other things, means that its not the subject of that many online deep dives like this. Listening to you guys summarise it while reviewing it was a joy. Particularly like Ed's style. "Netley is in way over his head man" Love it. Here's one for you though - that future Gull sees at the climax of his orgy of violence is the actual 1990s. That aint no schizophrenic "in the future they'll have jet packs and meals will come in pill form " hallucination. The (nearly) final image of the appendix is a strip club. Jahbulon got the misogynistic world he wanted, for the last century at least.

From Hell borrows heavily from Stephen Knight’s 1976 book Jack The Ripper: The Final Solution. Moore asserts that Knight wrote his book as an elaborate hoax.
I first became aware of Knight when I saw this Australian documentary from 1980. It’s chilling stuff. It’s the same documentary that sparked Moore’s interest.

On thing that really irritated me about the film FROM HELL is that they had Mary Kelly live happily ever after with Johnny Depp!! Talk about not "getting " your source materials!!

That’s actually based on an urban legend from the 1890s to around 1910s. I agree that it’s bad history and that the entire film was terrible.
