Artists after getting double digit likes: "Man, this is doing numbers"

Me after getting more than 30 reach on any post or reel:
@@valentism6794 "you guys get 30 likes?"
@@diip-ali1228 I meant 30 people just SEEING the content 💀

Just realized that by doing this video, you also promoted your own characters and stories. You smooth motherf-
Lmao I just realized
O.o no joke
she straight up smoothly name dropped her comic at one point lmao marketing genius
What software do you use for animations? How long do they usually take?
I didn’t even realize 💀
From what I’ve seen online, the objectively “bad” art is usually made as a joke by well known and talented artists (like “shitpost” art). This can seem daunting to beginners because what you originally thought was “lazy” and “rushed” is getting tons of likes!
Well for me, in art Facebook groups, well made drawings barely get a few comments and some likes, while drawings made by beginners, really simple, lacking knowledge in anatomy or shading with an airbrush and black, is usually crowded with positive comments, which isn't bad btw, but I think that rather than telling them their drawing is perfect you could slip some criticism in there
I don't do that anymore because I think I'm too blunt
@@valerial9081 mediocrity gets a lot of attention nowadays. Not just in art but in films, stories, products etc.
@@valerial9081 I don't do constructive criticism if someone doesn't ask me to, but I probably won't call it perfect either
@@valerial9081 yeah, no, its good to encourage beginners --- complimenting someone isnt the same as saying "omg ur art is perfect never improve ever".... beginners will improve on their own, by drawing more. giving someone constructive criticism without them asking can be really mean and discourage beginners from sharing their art. not everyone who draws wants to draw to improve, some people just want to draw to have fun.

Making art to popular memes or audio is one thing, but not getting too overwhelmed and not finishing it before the meme dies is another TwT
Oh wow I thought I was alone with this feeling😮
@@starrykid9871 nah I do it all the time don't worry
I just make the meme when it dies🤩👍🏾
This has happend to me so many times

I find the first two ridiculously accurate. My most popular video is just a meme shipping two book characters, and it took me less than 30 mins with minimal effort in a moving car because I was bored. You hit the nail on the head
I'm kinda surprised-
Your channel seems neat! Hope it all goes well for you
i really like animating, especially now that i got a new drawing tablet, but im in art block and it's painfulll
whats worse is that a school project that includes animation is coming up in 2 weeks anddd... i have only drawn two frames 💀💀

Also, "draw this in your style" can get people's attention on your art, if they browse through all the drawings and find your artsyle interesting they might want to look further into your stuff!!
That's what I'm starting to do! I actually just entered a DTIYS challenge for one of my favorite art streamers :D
Every single DTIYS ive attempted to make and/or join have flopped. No on joins mine, and when I join them no one sees my entries 😭 Years of this have literally made me hate this challenge, ngl. But that very well may just be my personal experience 😮💨😔
Yeah, I've seen this! Bad art can get so much attention, and it makes a bit sense as art is subjective, but it still hurts sometimes!-
Also can we not fall it bad art? Since art is different? I feel like it’s a little rude
@thegloriousmagician9100 Art being bad isn't exactly bad. It depends on the person. One might find "bad art" to be amazing, while another who's classically trained or educated in art thinks differently. So, think Hailey, she went to art school and will see things under the lense of techniques, patterns, gestural features, etcetera.
Like a gorgeously made holloween custom that took month then everyone is gawking over a baby dressed up in a 2 dollar carrot suit. You Can't get mad cause the baby is cute, but it feels a little bit unfair.
I mean, its not bad, since with what I've seen, most of actually "bad-looking" popular art/meme art are made by people with incredible skills that studied for years and once where also actually posting those artworks they whould spend hours on, the type to make your jaw open. Most of those actually do have their base followers set out, some live out of that and dispose of their full living time for that kind of thing.
Anyone that is starting out, be someone fresh out of the art's bachellor's degree or some 10 y/o that decided to draw as a hobby just now, they'll have a hard time when trying to build a follower base.
YOU COPIED MY BROTHER!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

And the outro one
Just in time. That's what I needed, thank you!! It's kinda frustrating expecting for more than 12 likes, but it's okay to do what I'm used with. The best part is to do whatever I want, not only for likes but for myself.

mhm yes some information in lowercase // NOW THE SAME THING REPHRASED COMEDICALLY IN ALL CAPS
yeah totally…
The meme/animatic community isn’t talked about enough! I’ll give a brief explanation for those who are just hearing about it,
A meme is ultimately a short video.
There’s media memes which are funny videos, like vine and short non-art related trends, and there’s the art memes; which are short videos of art panels typically added with music/audio. This can be animatic or animation.
These may also be called edits, but edits will use the already drawn art and scenes.
There is three memes you’ll come across; which is art, funny clips, and gacha.
Gacha is it’s own separate community built around a game by Lunime. It uses pre-made styles and where you can make characters and set them into scenes. There is a lot going on in that and I wouldn’t recommend falling into it with looking directly for fandoms, original stories, or not knowing it’s past problems.
So, animatic and animation.
Animation is basically a lot more, quicker-moving frames.
Animation can also be without music while animatics typically go along with music.
Animatics have more pause between frames and can be more picture-to-picture. This is like comics in movie framing (or layout), generally with more panels as well. It is like animation but slower, much like you’d see in story boarding in the first frame work of movies. Just like a movie, but you’re not seeing that fine print and several frames for every scene, most of the time at least. It’s its own style and much easier than animation. There usually a more sketchy or unfinished look to them as well, but it depends on the artist.
Back to music. Audio plays a big role to all of these. Although animation gets away with it more without, both animatics and animation can be with or without audio.
Animatics will usually follow an audio/song to display the story or meme. It makes it much more entertaining and fun for the viewers and artist. Most are like a music video but with OCs or fandoms.
Fandoms are a huge community in these much like they are in the art community. If you have a comic, you might want to see if someone made one of these for you!
If you enjoy comics, you need to check out the animatic/memes community. Especially if you own a comic or have a favorite fandom or character.
I personally much prefer animatics and memes to animation, movies, or just a picture of art. I also watch more animatics then comics and have been lead from them to smaller comics I wouldn’t have known about.
Go look check out each of theses, if anything it’ll be good knowledge to have if you’re interesting in an art career. :]
Lol, why do you have 6k followers and no videos?
@@theavootar Oh, this is an old channel. I made it like 2, nearly 3, years ago.
Thank you so much for this, and yeah meme/ animatic community really isn’t talked about enough. (Also the explanation was really good, 10/10 even I understood)
I clicked on it to "read more" but when i scrolled, it just kept going and going and going lol
@@babydragon409 This is only a bunch of basics lol, there’s so much within it I can explain for hours about just one of the communities I’m in.
_all of the tips in this video_
0:13: redraw a current meme/funny photo with your own oc
1:53: redraw a popular sound/animatic/meme with your own characters
5:56: add a little animation or motion aspect to your illustration
8:48: add a frame or something to make your drawing pop out more
Memes pose for OCs (comedy to engage) - animatics too (romance is popular) - movement to pics - fun frames (specially simple drawings) - visual clarity to prevent visual clutter in social media
Something that I haven't really seen anyone mention is relatability, honestly I think that a big part of why "bad art" gets so much love is because people feel like they could make something like that.😅
This right here. I was thinking the same thing!
Thanks for giving this advice! I’ve noticed that since the Insta algorithm has been getting worse for artists, there’s been a lot of guilt trippy reel trends. I don’t think people do them maliciously, more out of desperation. If Insta isn’t allowing artists to be shown, it’s only natural that people want to ask people to engage with their work more. In addition to this, seeing other reels with these audios that have a lot of likes and comments makes it more appealing. However, it doesn’t sit right with me personally. It’s a bit sad that artists have to beg to get attention, but I guess it’s an inflated market.
It does often feel like low effort content like selfies and conventionally attractive people lip syncing get more attention, which can be discouraging when most artists spend hours on their pieces. Obviously, artists are not entitled to attention just for existing, but these are things that I’ve noticed.
This so much!! I see some artists who are dissatisfied with how their art is being distributed by the algorithm and are very open about how sad it makes them and basically telling people to interact and stuff (putting stuff like "please don't let this flop i worked so hard on this" in the description). And it's always so awkward for me to see this kind of stuff because on the one hand I completely understand how they're feeling because I struggle a lot with my art not getting the visibility I want, but crying about it online for all of your followers to see and asking for interaction so straightforwardly just seems really coercive to me and makes me uncomfortable. I think the advice on this video is super helpful and important, and is just focusing on one area of a larger method of giving potential followers more details about your art and OCs that they can hang their hat on instead of venting about what's wrong with their art style (plus I think these days most people are too preoccupied with "cringe" or having a reputable image associated with their art that they ignore participating in silly memes and other adjacent things when that could be a low-investment way to help give them more online recognition)
I couldn't agree with you more! I really, REALLY do not like the trend lately with reels that say, "lower your expectations to zero!" or "wow, you must have tons of followers" where it feels like begging. Especially when those same reels have 20k likes and the user has several thousand followers. I've spent years learning how to draw cars, and posted on IG since 2018, and I still rarely get over 45 likes, so the beggy/whiny content just irks me 😅
This is amazing art. Don't let anyone ever get you down about it
YOU COPIED MY BROTHER!!!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
@@justpretendidontexist what happened
@just pretend i don't exist no I didn't
"i recommend making something Unfamiliar, like your comic-"
i see what you did there
I honestly hate it when I’m scrolling thru art and I see a little kid sharing art and someone in the comments are like “that’s bad” like dude at least thare trying
I love how art as a medium is growing as a whole :)
One I'd recommend doing is drawing your OC or promotion in different styles, or cosplaying popular characters, or in the same position as popular film posters etc. As L.T. wad sayiny, it helps people because they can immediately recognise something they like, it's much more likely to get engagement.
I experienced getting viral a couple times due to memes and I regret it. I don't advice it as most of the followers you get from it only follows you for the "temporary" laugh and not for your art. A lot of them will no longer engage longterm when you post something that's not a meme
Good insight

As an animator I can definitely confirm this is a good way to promote your characters! (Also love how you had Babs use her powers at the end of the short❤) Amazing work as always!!!
the part where she just draws babs and sun together is adorable!
i love babs and sun 😭
see, relationships work!
It’s hard to promote stuff on a site like Tapas, especially since Im a traditional artist and I don’t post on other sites. But this was helpful nonetheless, I always look forward to your videos. And my art is getting some attention now. It’s weird, after 2 years of posting to start getting likes out of nowhere. Mainly, I try to stay true to myself and not compare myself to more popular artists. Thanks for the vid :’)
Currently going through this situation on both Tumblr and DA, a hand full my shitpost art get over 1k while fan art that took me hours or days to draw barely reach that and my OC ones are even lower
Like, I really greatly appreciate all the attention towards my shitposts stuff but it would be nice to see that on the drawings that I put a lot of thought into :')
I FINALLY GOT MY HANDS ON UNFAMILIAR!!!!
I read some of it digitally but I really wanted to have it on my shelf to share with my friends and support you. I’ve been waiting to buy it for months and months and I got it as a birthday gift yesterday!!!
Thank you for this art, I like the early sketches in the back
I have some pet peeves from being on art tiktok for a while that make me immediately scroll away, if anyone wants my opinion:
First is when people are revealing their finished art by erasing the sketch to reveal the art underneath and take AGES to erase it. I don’t know how or why this became a trend, but the way I see it, there’s no point to it other than to be annoying. Idc how talented you are, how interesting your sketch is, or how many likes you got. If it takes you longer than 10 seconds to erase, I’m scrolling away. Making quicker videos in general is also typically a good idea on tiktok, esp if you’re just showing an image or two. And if you’re doing a speedpaint, make it SUPER quick and add a popular audio in the background, preferably a fast paced one that will hold people’s attention.
Another pet peeve I have is when people have text walls explaining their extensive lore. ESPECIALLY when they use one of the text to speech voices, forcing me to listen to it all. I’m not saying the lore is super uninteresting or badly written either. It’s usually just because it’s a text wall overlaid onto a still image and my attention span is garbage. The attention spans of most tiktok users are just awful so you have to be aware of that when posting.
This last one isn’t a pet peeve, but I have noticed if you’re going to post a video of an animation or pmv (or just any video, even not art related) putting text explaining what it is will get you more views. It doesn’t have to be anything too in depth, it can basically be nothing, (just a bland “look what I animated”) as long as people know what they’re watching. If they don’t they’re more likely to scroll away because they don’t care what’s happening. Sounds harsh but it’s true.
It's beautiful how your style has developed through the years! I would not be where I am with my art style today if it weren't for videos 💖💖
Man, I hate that artists have to fully convince people to even give their art the time of day. It’s like climbing a cliff face with no equipment in the middle of a storm to me
Just wish people cared enough to not scroll right on by :/
This will help a lot, thank you miss lavender!! Always love your art!!

I've watched her channel since like 4 years ago and I'm kinda happy that she still keeps her video style consistently since then. Especially the outro music blended with the Patreon shoutouts
This is really useful, thank you ♡ It can so heart-breaking and discouraging to put so much love and care and effort into what you make and never have more than 12 people acknowledge its existence--over 20 on a really amazingly high-performing piece. Especially if creative work is what you want to do for a living. And certainly it could be a skill-issue, too! But I'll try some of these and see what happens ☆

I think your first suggestion shows how good vine compilations are. I even saw a comment on one that said, "the fastest way to understand someone's characters is through a vine comp". It's pretty fast paced, usually funny but there are more serious ones, and you can indeed tell a lot about character based on who they're drawn as from the vine
