    I'm going to make this once I refine my skills but make some changes.
    Add side pocket to end of bag.
    Add feet to the bottom.
    Maybe add a insert for the bottom to keep the shape.
    Mines gunna be either black saffiano caviar or Epsom exterior with a red merino wool lining interior. MAYBE red piping to match interior but undecided and of course gold hardware with raccagni zippers.
    Extremely excited to make this happen!

    First time watching, very much appreciated, your knowledge is well respected. I saw on the side you placed a bond/some type of stiffener, what type it was? and where can I purchase it. You should sell those extras that sometimes here in USA we are not able to find. I know in Asia they use many types of stiffeners and foam.

      In Asia there're lots of small makers. Like in Thailand where I live there are leather streets where sell bags supplies.
      HongKong, Japan, Korea .... lots of supplier. If someone import to USA should be great.

The leather at the gusset seam tore along the stitch line. Do you soften the veg tan leather before construction so it is more pliable? Or have other recommendations?

    Do you think its possible to scale up the pattern to get a bigger bag?

    • @craftsmangus
      @craftsmangus  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, you can scale up but you just to keep some proportions.
      Let's say you plan to print 150%, all the things will be blow up. Some parts will be too large like a handle or binding pipe.
      for example: If you do blow upscale method, the width of the binding pipe have to keep the same the length you can leave as 150% blow. The zipper is still the same width so you need to add the pattern area. And also other parts needed.

    So the trim to cover the inside seams is only glued in place?

    • @craftsmangus
      @craftsmangus  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi Julie.
      As in video, its glue only.
      In video I demonstrate the glue method, if the glue quality is good enough it can stay and use well.
      As mainly I made leather bag pattern for sell, most of my customer work with hand stitching, for this detail its quite heavy works to hand stitch. Normally this details need industrial sewing machine (post bed or cylinder bed with binding feeder) which is quite not typical equipments to have in home. If have this machine, its better to stitch.... also it's ok for hand stitch with hard work.
      I've seen nowadays there are lots of very good glue. But just have to worry about the environmental working toxic.
      The one I use is typical contact adhesive.

    • @craftsmangus
      @craftsmangus  Před 4 lety +1

      For scale down , you can scale by the percentage of printing option.
      But it needs to keep some proportion to be the same by adding some manual adjustment. Due to some fixed size accessories, proportion and human scale.
      For example. - Piping: when you scale down, the length of it is all change but you need to maintain the width to be the same.
      - The length of the main piece. The zipper is still the same size width but the overall length has been adjusted. So when attached the zipper, the length of the main body and the gusset will not match, the gap of zipper will be too small. I recommend to use the black clipper help check by start clipping from the middle to the top and see how large you need to cut the piece off.
      - Handle: when scale down you need to concern about the ring accessory too (in this drawing I use 2cm. ring for handle). And also please make sure that the handle is suitable for hand. Just normally the length of the handle in drawing is standard.
      - Main body wrap around reinforcement strap (the one that hold the d-ring for handle), the width must be according to the handle and d-ring too.
      I hope you can apply for the other points from my example of explanation.

      @@matthewstrollo6199 The US version is called Bontex and you buy it in a sheet and cut down: www.springfieldleather.com/Bontex-Bag-Stiffener?gclid=CjwKCAiAyc2BBhAaEiwA44-wW2oUyfE-b8oZHJkNPdA6jGnc1xRK15mVkOZBKdJeksu6T4_EzjT2ARoCOKoQAvD_BwE

    Do you have a template for a longer version? Around three to four feet?

      Hi Aiden.
      I didn't make the longer version yet.
      I think if would like to elongated this duffel without changing other proportions you can extend the size just only the width without interrupt other piece. But it might need more of bottom support.
      (And if like to have not too loose bag, the stiff lining will a bit help.

      @@craftsmangus Thank you, I really like the look of it, it's just a bit small for me. I've already started on prototyping out a longer version from cheap leather and found that using a 12 ounce vegetable leather on the bottom to form a sort of sole was enough to hold its shape and help protect the would be chromium leather body. Also widening it by two two inches makes sure that it still looks good, to proportion and adds a bit more space making it into more of a weekender bag. This might be different for you because it's more of an opinion thing.

    what did you use for the piping plastic cord???

    • @craftsmangus
      @craftsmangus  Před 4 lety

      It's the actual plastic cord (it is easy to find here in Bangkok).
      But if hardly find in your area, you can also use rubber tube for fishtank oxygen (2mm.) or round leather cord as well.
      Also you can use without cord, just use the fold leather as well.

      @@craftsmangus Hello! May I ask if the plastic cord is functional for giving shape of the bag, or is it just for the appearance only?
