- Small leather duffel bag. In this video I show my process of making this two tone small chrome tanned leather duffel bag from start to finish. From cutting out the leather bag panels, sewing on straps and pockets, installing a zipper closure and creating the bag grab handles. Made from a combo of 5oz Black Harvest and English Manor chrome tan leathers. The bag has four outer pockets, D-ring attachments for adding a shoulder strap and plenty of interior storage for such a small bag. OLD Leather Smith here, nice job. I havy 1 of those machines and I still hand sew everything. Sorry I am old school. Suggestion use a broom handle oor a closet rod with one end rounded. I make moccasins that require 2 B turned right sufe out and have found the closet rod works best held against the floor and wall. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

Wow a trailer ball for an anvil. Im stealing that idea. Can you show how you have it set up? Maybe pics on your instagram
I literally just put the tow ball on top of my anvil. There is a small flat spot on the ball end that was big enough to set the head of the rivet on to set it. Adding the D-rings was an afterthought, Ideally I would have installed the D-rings before sewing the gussets on.
@@KingdomGloryLeather oh got it. It looked like it was on something so that makes sense. I bought some old cobblers anvils for shoes but dont have a way to mount them. I may buy the actual mount but im still totally gonna use a tow ball also

At about 12:15 when attaching the shoulder strap D-rings...was that a ball hitch you've converted into a small anvil for stuff like that?
Yes it is a hitch ball on top of an anvil. I normally use it for a weight but it came in handy for setting those rivets in an awkward location.
@@KingdomGloryLeather totally brilliant. Getting my rivet anvil inside small pieces can be a pain, and i have a few extra hitches around...thanks for the idea!

It is a New Tech brand. I really think most of these machines are all manufactured at the same place and then sent out to different companies who then put their name and paint job on them. I would buy again.

How would you reccomend reinforcing the part where the handle rivets sir on the bag?
You could add an extra small patch of leather to the inside of the bag where the rivet is.

I would suggest watching more videos online and lots of practice. That is how I learned.

That’s a hard question to answer. I would say it is an intermediate to advanced project. Lots of hand work and machine work.

I believe this was 5-6 oz.

Machine thread 138
Saddle stitch thread 0.6mm

is this possible without a machine?
Absolutely! Skiving can be done by hand and the stitching can be done as well. Machines just speed up the process. Machine skiving is more accurate, the stitching is faster, but I would put a food saddle stitch against a machine stitch any day.
Yes totally possible to make all by hand using a skiving knife and hand stitching.
