Tbh, even if we look past USADA and overcoming striking, even Gordon’s BJJ game would have to change. Right now he has developed a style that is basically designed to gas his opponents over a long period of time with constant pressure.
Yes, he has been able to produce quick submissions, but this isn’t his A-game and it was against BJJ folks at a BJJ pace.
A UFC Gordon Ryan is un-roided, can at least defend against top tier strikers, and is much, much more explosive/faster moving in the grapple. Could he do it? Probably, I think so, but he’d have to get started ASAP and it would likely mean leaving the BJJ scene for awhile while he prepped.

It would take time to recalibrate his training and get acclimated to strikes… as an amazing “analytical” athlete he could go far. There are strikers who evolved as he did in grappling and rounded out their game to do just fine.
We saw the template, to some degree, with Roger Gracie where he himself said it was his decision to cement his legacy in Gi and no-Gi vs a rededication to MMA.

The MMA world looks different these days , a good portion of competitors have trained MMA from day one instead of the old way of focusing on one discipline and then picking up others later in your career to be able to compete . Gordon has put all his focus on BJJ and done so successfully , at this point in his career to start adding striking etc would be a major disadvantage if he joined MMA and was against someone who trained several disciplines their whole life . IMO i would stay right where he is , continue to be the captain , and steer the BJJ ship into the mainstream like hes been doing .
