I am a parent who does that to everyone I meet - apparently I was the best when my daughter was in high school and college (she's 22 now)....."You want to dye your hair purple? Sure! Let me help!" - "you want to customise your clothes with paint and weird patches? I actually know how to do that!" LOL!! She has never cut her hair though (her choice and always will be). I think we all need to be happy and if cutting our hair, dying it or weirding up our clothes or whatever (even singing in the supermarket - which I've done) is how we do it ......then DO it. Life is short and the crematoriums and graveyards are full of people who were 'normal' and regretted never being different on their deathbeds.... I even sing the dambusters song when my daughter pushes me in my wheelchair! XD

I cut like 5 inches off hair and even tho I had short hair for like 4 years , I grew along with my hair and made so many memories with it so I was actually panicking about it .

So, I've actually had basically this same hair cut for almost two years now. The short part has been everything from long enough to tuck behind my ear to shaved with clippers. I prefer the shaved, honestly. The long part has been short like to the tops of my ear to right now about chin length (my hair grows FAST, fast enough my stylist is always a little caught off guard at how much it's grown in 6-8 weeks or however long between visits). Back at the beginning of March I went to get it buzzed down because I'd let it grow out a bit over winter (it's warmer lol). My stylist talked me into letting her just trim it and thin it down. I liked it.
Little did we know this freaking quarantine would happen. Now I'm getting a mullet. If I had clippers man...
Anyway, I really identify with the whole feeling free and liberated you talked about. When I first went this short, I had waist length hair. My entire life, my hair has never been shorter than Midway between shoulders and chin. I've actually always hated it. I don't know why it never occurred to me that I COULD actually cut it all off. I mean... Of course I knew I could, but at the same time I didn't think I actually could. When I got it cut, it was just something that I did. I am not impulsive, but this haircut was super impulsive for me. I thought until I got out of my car when I went to the salon that I was just going for a trim. Something came over me and I just.... did it.
Afterwards, I sat in my car and cried. Not because I regretted it, but because I finally, FINALLY felt like me. I felt like I finally found myself and finally felt free and liberated. I will never go back to long hair. I may not keep this exact style but I think I'll have short hair for the rest of my life.
