  • Using the orbits from the Mandelbrot fractal, along with some height manipulation using the center of the main cardioid, an amazing creature is observed that looks like a jellyfish. The orbits twist and turn in a fantastic way, especially near the edge of the Mandelbrot set. The tentacles of the jellyfish represents the periods of the orbits. This animation is showing iterations 4 through about 100, with some linear time-shifting to smooth out the motion.
The Mandelbrot fractal continues to amaze me as new methods and techniques are used to visualize the chaos formulating into patterns.
Made using Houdini and rendered with Karma XPU using some custom OpenCL code. Enjoy!

I appreciate all the kind comments! One of these days I would like to do a full explanation of how these fractal videos are made. As a student in school, I was never that good at math, so for me this has been really pushing my skillset. I still struggle with certain concepts, but the process of figuring out how to display these fractals has really been challenging and fun.
For me, mixing math with some visualizations has made all the difference. Am I starting to like math? Maybe!!!
