I’m the same way. It hurts my heart when there is 1 that’s left out. We give extra treats when none of the others are looking. 🤭
Same.
I love this. I would do the same
Ditto
I usually stay with a bullied or lonely chicken and each time she gets bullied badly or some other chick pecks on her too much, I usually shush the other one away and protect the lonley or bullied chicken. I will do this for a day or two. It worked miracles so far. usually the bullied chicken is more confident and the bully is aware, the other one is protected, so she will stop bullying. so far it really worked out well for my chickens. i will not interfere the regular pecking order, but i will interfere when things get too rough.
I love this @tinak6281 I would absolutely do the same
I do the same!!
Yay!! I’m not the only one lol
We had a “pidge”. We would always use her as a companion chicken for an injured hen. She would never pick on an injured hen, even when she could see blood. So she made a perfect companion for when others had to be isolated, they didn’t have to be alone!
Watching your videos is strangely comforting to me. I have only had chickens for one year but I know whatever problem I run into, you have a video on it.
Aww thank you! Also, I’m originally from Texas!
@@WelcometoChickenlandia How cool is that? My homes in Texas have been Fort Worth and San Antonio, and I have a sister and my mom in New Braunfels.
I spoil my “lowest on the pecking order” too (Emmy). She’s the sweetest girl. Follows us around like a puppy and will cuddle like one too. One of the “upper ladies” is getting old and slowing down. Emmy will lay down in the dirt with her to keep her company. So cute ❤
I have a little Easter Egger like that. Her best friend died and it took her a very long time to not be afraid of the other chickens. I always made sure she didn't get hurt and got her share of meal worms.
Going through the same thing with my little Cream Crested Legbar… she lost her sister and went into depression… I spent a lot of time with her and she seems to be happier now.. has taken a few months…
My chicken Chica-Linda Got blind in her left eye, (She's fine she's had it for 2 years now) My rooster completely removed her form the flock, she now is the only chicken allowed to free-range and is perfectly happy by herself, when I let my ducks out, she goes and hangs out with them, she knows her way around our property better than any other chicken, and continues to thrive even though she can only see out of one eye.
Ty chickenlandia for being so caring to rescue all those chickens :)
I have a loner Americana, and she's the sweetest little loner. I always take care of her with extra treats because she stays away from the flock. Healthiest little chicken that I ever had.
Thank you for sharing this, Madam President!! Since you were one of the main reasons I now have my 8 teenagers.... 4 Easter Eggers, 4 Barnavelders, I watch you regularly for good 'chic parent' advice! All are doing well & I think they are just beginning to start jockeying for position at times. These little creatures sure grow up fast!!!
I have a solo chicken in my flock also. She was a single hatch and raised 3 weeks in the house . I have new chicks separated in coop . I'm hoping they will bond with her when released . Possibly, she will bully them. Idk, but she is a joy . The pecking order is hard to watch !
Like you , I love them all .
🐝♥️
Had a good laugh. My sweet Lilly is very shy, quite, loner. Lucy is bossy and tells her when she can eat or have a bug. Lilly had a goose come up to her and bustled up her feather and jumping up to flog it!😅
I spoil the heck out of the ones that are low on the pecking order. One of my Roos is excellent too. He gives them extra protection! I spoil him most of all❤❤❤.
Awwww ya.. I’m always cuddling and giving extra love/treats to my bottom girls & boys
We have a little olive egger, named Olive. And she is just like Pidge. She roosts alone in the coop, and it's clear she's at the bottom of the pecking order. She's very timid and sweet.
I have 6 hens and pretty much get along well. 😊
Every chicken tender has a Pidge ❤
I understand that. I feel the same way for my little chicken Lucille.
Life is a pecking order! My poor white chicky Blossom is alone, bottom of the order, but she is so beautiful. The Roos should sort it out!
I am going through a crazy situation with us right now we had to close up one of our enclosures because something was finally able to get into it and we had to move all the chickens to a new run at 3 o'clock in the morning pretty much we had to put babies with adults but we didn't have no choice but it is amazing watching how they figure out who's on top and who's on the bottom
Awwe... That poor girl... Although, she may not mind being a loner as some of us are... I'm more of a loner in my older age myself. My Wednesday (a black-laced golden Wyandotte) is definitely the boss in my flock, besides my rooster, Red (Rhode Island Red) of course. I have a little white leghorn that is a loner. My Gerddie Girl (short for Gertrude). Gerddie was the smallest of our last batch of chicks & she's a Momma's girl but I do worry about her quite a bit. However, she does seem to be content hanging out all by herself although she does love hanging out with me. 😊 Thanks for your videos.
my little andalusian got out of the yard & we didnt find her until the next morning (it was a neighborhood search project). when i brought her home the flock ostracized her. truly, they acted like high school mean girls! its been nearly 2wks now & they are only just starting to accept her. pecking order is real!
My hen wrong way is at the bottom I always try to give her a little extra love she is so sweet
I can’t sit for the longest time and watch my hens. My favorite part of the morning! I agree it’s very interesting to watch them figure out who fits in where along the order.
I got a little girl like pidge. She’s kinda on her own. I have 4 bigger breed chickens and 3 frizzle mixes. One of the frizzles is the only rooster so the whole thing is interesting. He has his 2 little girls (including the lowest on the pecking order) and the 4 bigger hens kinda chase the little ones around. So I guess the little ones stick together but still my little amber is often off by herself and she is high alert all the time.
I have a Pidge.. breaks my heart but again I think your right
What a sweetheart of a true human being!❤
Love your glasses❤
It is unsettling to watch someone at the bottom getting pushed around but as you say, it’s for the social order of the flock. My barnyard mixed Black Austrolorp, Judy is at the bottom and as long as she isn’t getting harmed it’s all good!
Chickens pecking order is very strange at times, we've recently lost our beloved littlest Silkie bantam hen Juliet 😢 and she was a loner but she was never picked on, it's like they all knew she was never right since a chick (she made it to 2 1/2 years old) but since she's been gone i can't really tell who's at the bottom of the pecking order now 🤔 it's a tie between 3 little Silkie bantam hens and they are a active member of the flock unlike Juliet was, our top hen is a polish bantam hen as is her next in line, then a gold top bantam hen with her 2 sisters then our fiesty Silkie who's worked her way up to top (literally as she roosts with the top hens instead of lower deck with other silkies) then there's the 3 silkies who roost the lower deck,i love them all dearly and enjoy every minute with them 😊♥️👋🇬🇧🐓
Thank you for sharing this, for someone who is new it means a lot of information.
Wouldn't you think that your lonely chicken would've had her own babies in the wild to stay with, by so creating her own flock? It's often like that in nature, sisters, mothers and daughters all stay together. You could artificially reproduce that by letting her have some chicks if she shows the tendency to brood. This is al from experience, but i noticed that my mother hens stayed very close and had a lot of respect towards their daughters even when they became adult hens.
Imagine if we had a flock of teenagers could you imagine the cost🤣🐓🐔🐣🐤🐥🐦
I have a little bantam "Snow Dove" and that poor little girl is at the bottom. And to make matters worse she has a strong drive to brood. And for therefore the others think she is strange and pick on her.
I have noticed that La Zorra LOL (she had the mask of El Zorro on her face when she was a chic) she is the dominant for sure. She was since she was a little chic.😃. I haven't noticed which one is at the bottom.??? I will pay more attention.
I had a chicken named Droo, she passed away a year ago and I miss her very much. She was at both the top and the bottom of the pecking order. She had three sisters, Lug, Empath, and Daduke. Droo was above Lug, Lug was above Empath and Daduke, Empath was above Daduke and Droo, and Daduke was above Droo. It was the perfect balance, no one would get picked on too much because if Daduke pecked Droo, Lug would peck Daduke, and Droo would peck Lug, etc, then they'd all just continue on with their days getting along. She would also cuddle under Lug at night and even though Lug wasn't a fan, she adored Droo and would let her be her bossy little self. Chickens are amazing.
My little Jenny is at the bottom, so I feed her separately to outsmart the mean ol' ladies.. ❤🐔❤
I brought in 7 week old chicks. It’s been 6 weeks. They are still two completely different flocks. The pullets know their place for the most part. But my original flock wants nothing to do with them.
Will they ever be one flock?
We have a rooster we call Lucifer who is at the top. Hen Bertha must be at the bottom as she has learned how to get over to the duck side of the compound. Goes back to roost at night but in the morning is laying her egg with the ducks.
Two days ago I saw one of my hens chasing and pecking at another hen. Well the next day she killed her. So I moved her out of the chicken run out with the mean rooster. She's on her own now against wildlife.
It's best to introduce new chickens in the flock at night time, also some chickens are like humans, they are an introvert and prefer to be alone.
My sweet Mary is at the bottom. Bully Victoria was isolated for a little while but the bullying continues. Mary’s feathers are a mess and she’s scared all the time. I think it’s back to jail for the bully….
Sounds like it’s exactly what we think.
She sounds just like my Peanut 😂 she is at the bottom and tries so hard to fit in.
Did you ever think it is just the opposite? I mean, that's how"domestication" functions. That the "environment" has much more impact than you want to admit?
Somebody needs to humble midnight, get a Aseel rooster 💀💀
Have a loner to it's heart breaking i just want to make her happy .
When I was small, my grandfather would often promote those "oddball" chickens to house hen and bring them inside. (Yeah, it was the sixties so down vote me all you want, people I am not addressing)
Here's the pecking order: It goes you...
😂
I know there is a pecking order. I don't like the order denying food
My French Copper Maran named Ketjap Karin, just watching this video; her top pecking order urges kick in. She's giving me the side eye right now, while already gone to bed. She's a good leader, but a bit hmm a Karen.
She also just enters every room or space like launching herself with her feet first, like that tall guy in Seinfield. Then she kicks whatever I have and wipes her beak on my leg. Her way to say, it's mine, give it up. And the other chickens have to wait their turn for her. Her eggs are delicious
Dear teacher, can u send me chicks in Pakistan. I will pay expenses.
