In my personal experience, attending Dr. Filippenko’s lectures over the past decade, I don’t see any validity to the derisive comments made. I’ve talked him numerous times and have seen only a patient willingness to teach and share his passion: he has a rich sense of humor, which - if you’re not familiar with it - might seem snarky or sarcastic, but he’s truly a good person and perhaps the best teacher I’ve ever had in 11 years of college and university study.

I really love Prof Alex Filippenko. I don't know him personally but through you tube videos he simplifies Astronomy in layman's terms. I wish to meet him one day in Carlifonia...
I bought Fillipenko's Great Courses series on Black Holes, and loved it. I am an old timer, I sat in the front row for Carl Sagan's presentation on Halley's Comet at Princeton in '85, rubbed elbows with many great astronomers and astronomy writers and lecturers. Fillipenko is one of my favorite lecturers. That's just my humble opinion, based on decades of experience

I have watched carefully Prof. Filippenko's lectures on The Great Courses, and found his lectures outstanding. Do not know how anyone can write negative comments about his teaching.
Hey Alex I've never been to one of your lectures in person, but I have watched many hours of your lectures on the Great Courses and CZcams. I must say I love your lectures and your weird personalty! I am the type of guy that you would more than likely not asosicate with in school or even today. Not that this is a bad thing, just we would not run in the same circles. I am a hard working, hard drinking, foul mouthed person with an opinion that would rather go to fistacuffs then debate. I quite school very early and went to work as a construction worker. I have done very well financially and in life. I learned all I know from books and now then Internet. I bought a book 20 yrs ago at a garage sale for a quarter. If was a paperback book on Relativity. That book had an illustration of a light clock. That was the image that allowed me to understand how time delusion was possible. (Not understand why, just that it was really happening) Since then I have learned much more about the physical world we live in. Thanks in part from your fantastic lectures on Great Courses and CZcams. Of all my Great Course courses (I have a bunch!) and the instructors you are one of my favorite. So much so that I now search for your lectures on youtube and other forms of media as well. I personally would have enjoyed to have you as my professor when I was in school. Good Luck!

He is the my favorite scientist. I am not even at Berkeley, I just love watching videos with him talking about astrophysics
