  • Take a walk with us around the property of a lifelong VW collector. We discover
many cool aircooled models including a few Oval Window sedans and a 56 convertible. The big score of the day though was when we opened the doors of what appeared to be an old camper trailer. It was rumored there was a Split Window on the property, and we were all thrilled to discover what was hiding in plain sight all these years.

VWs were so much fun! In 1991 I bought a 1967 Microbus for $650, got it running, and drove that bus out of one of the worst times of my life. It needed some rust repair, like most do, but when it started popping out of 4th gear I decided to sell it to someone who had the time and place to properly repair it, which I did not at that time.
I drove my split for 5 years, then stored it. I finally let it go to a friend's son who is a masterful body guy and he'll give it the care I never had time to give it.
Nowadays it seems like anything fun gets ruined when wealthy people get involved. You either go large or go home. I went home.
You know, old Saabs are quirky little cars that don't have a big rich boomer following! Maybe a suitable hobby car for the rest of us there!

@@rescue270 yeah my 65 had a 1921 cc in it with dual carbs and a 1835 with duals in my 67. I used to bust mustang 5.0's asses back in the 90's lol.. Those are two cars I definitely wish I would have kept but of course being a teenager back then once I turned about 20 I got into the mini trucking thing and had a 94 S10 that I put a lot of money into and a 96 Tacoma I still got that S10 and some beauty to behold and I can get fair amount of money for that thing right now, it's crazy how even those trucks are worth money now.. I steal daily drive a 92 Ford ranger that I bought in 97 I got 489,000 mi on it just replace the transmission 2 months ago other than that I put a set of eldebrock heads on it at 300,000 miles when the water pump went out and it blew the head gaskets and warped the stock heads but she's a runner I ain't never had a problem really out of it other than those two problems which is to be expected with all the miles I got on it.

    • @llnemesisll7129
      @llnemesisll7129 Před rokem +1

@@rescue270 you are definitely right about the money thing though because I still only have an average job where I make $45/50,000 a year and it is hard to compete with people who've got lots of money because they collect any and everything now.. a few years ago I started noticing stuff that I had kept when I was a kid like Nintendo games super Nintendo games and a bunch of other video game systems I kept because when I was a kid we didn't have a lot of money so I kept everything I had as far as those toys and game systems.. well I start looking online the other day and these games that were worth like 50 cent are going for like hundreds of dollars now which is crazy ridiculous but once again it's all these people on CZcams a hyping these games up on their channels and stuff and making these games that really aren't worth that much money go through the roof so if you really want to start collecting anything like that now like some people are doing you will never have a chance to do it because some of the values on these games are crazy. I was looking at a few Sega Saturn games I had and they were going for $1400 to $1800 a game I was like who in there right mind could even collect these things now if they wanted to because all these people with money buy everything up I seen this one guy on CZcams who have like a hundred copies of one game and that games worth like $500 and I'm like this one guys got 100 copies of this game that he probably never plays because you can emulate them for free on your computer or modify a game system to play them and not even have to have the cartridge but these people are buying all the real cartridges up so that they can have them and make the value go up it's crazy and sick at the same time.

Mostly restorations. Some were just maintenance. Loved working there.
Boss gave me a 1959 single cab , 1962 dbl. Cab and a boat that was hand made by a relative of mine. Besides hiring me in his shop. 0 experience, almost no tools. My mom got me the job, pretty sure.
    Anyhow, thank you.
Edit: long story short, traded the '59 for a 70' fastback , stock but ran like an airplane.
62' Wolfsburg special, I never got home.
Ended buying a '62 from a guy in Sumner, WA.
He told me he was Mrs. Wilson of heart, Uncle. Supposedly her college van. I bought it for $150. Complete,no motor. I believed the Wilson story because of the title in her name.
Sold it for $150. Wasn't one for making a profit.

This seems like kind of a second-generation barn find. I don't know if it is all-original or had been previously restored, but it clearly had a previous life as an already classic car. Twelve years isn't a particularly long time to be sitting idle, especially if it has been out of the elements. Probably just need to go through the fluids thoroughly before starting it up and driving it. Still a nice find regardless.

I have already seen two local VW salvage yards be completely cleaned out and shut down by guys who show up and drop a great big bill for everything.
I hate it when something I really enjoyed becomes too expensive for me to partake of only because wealthy people began to show an interest in it. That has happened to VWs.
