  • We speak to South African Police Force Sergeant Piet du Plooy who served in Rhodesia as part of SAP COIN and then as a patrol dog/dagga dog handler in Durban during the 1970s. I listen with tears in my eyes... Tears of laughter and tears of pride & shame at the same time. I served 21 years with the SAP, 7 of those with the Dog Unit in PMB. I worked with many legends like you and people you would know well. Wolf Fourie, Ben Barnard, Jack Haskins, Klippies Stone, Mike Wiid, MC Barnard & Brian Oberholzer to name a few, from your time. We all have similar stories. It is so sad that the SAPS, especially the Dog Units are a fraction of what they used to be. I listen from New Zealand and reflect back what legends and characters we had. Doing mischief with such discipline... Thank you for bringing back some of these memories

Thanks Piet for sharing it was most enjoyable. I had tears in my eyes when you shared about the help you received when so thirsty and hungry. I also had a good laugh about your codai shitting his pants.
