    Would be cool to see you make a split-pin crankshaft and accompanying camshafts to turn it into a proper boxer engine, so it won't shake itself to death from the crazy rocking couple caused by the shared crankpins

      @@allenl9031 Yeah not quite the same there, 'flat' is referring to crankshaft setup for horizontally opposed engines, flat engines use shared crank pins for opposed pairs like a V engine, Boxer refers to those being 180 degrees apart so the pistons move opposite to each other and cancel out more of the vibrations making it smoother, both setups are still flat plane.

    Can we expect a set of UEL headers to get that signature rumble sound ?

    • @callumkingunderwood
      @callumkingunderwood Před 7 měsíci +66

      Still wouldn't sound quite right unfortunately, Subaru and VW are specifically boxer 4's. Boxers are flat, but not all flat are boxers.
      Boxers have the opposing pistons synchronised to reach TDC/BDC at same time as each other whereas you can see on this crankshaft the piston on the left reaches TDC at the same time as the piston on the right reaching BDC

    • @Phrew
      @Phrew Před 7 měsíci +11

      It won‘t rumble, it‘s a flat 4, not a boxer.
      Flat 4 is basically a 180 degree V, two pistons share a crankshaft pin. Boxers have a pin for each piston, which means the movement is different.

      @Jaime7188 Před 7 měsíci +5

      @@Phrewthat literally has nothing to do with the rumble sound caused by the unequal length of the exhaust header. The Shelby gt350 is a flat plane v8, but it doesn't sound like a flat plane v8 because they use unequal length headers.

    9:58 I think it's because that belt is stretching out and the slack is getting pulled into the fan. You can see it stretching the first time it runs during revs.

    • @MadEvo606
      @MadEvo606 Před 7 měsíci

      but you don't really see it getting pulled into the fan, I suppose its just because of the high rpm. the pulley ratio is rather big so that fan is spinning like twice the speed of the engine

  • @TheUncleRuckus
    @TheUncleRuckus Před 7 měsíci +10

    I believe the reason the fan broke is bc if you look @6:18 you can see that as you rev the engine the fan belt starts expanding quite a lot, I'm sure the belt came off the pulley and got sucked into the fan and caught between the fan blade & shroud.
    I miss this kind of content, while I like seeing these different engines being run its nice to see them do some work rather than just a static run test. Hoping for more videos like this in the future! 👍👍

      @@albinklein7680 The boxer engine is a flat engine, belonging to the type of internal combustion engine. The engine pistons are arranged horizontally and symmetrically on each side of a central rotating crankshaft. When operating, they move continuously and in opposite directions, transfer force to the crankshaft, helping the crankshaft to move. It’s called “boxer” because the way the pistons move is like a boxer throwing punches. You have just learned something today.

    Rather than metal rings, probably would've made this work with teflon ones. It rides better, seals better, doesn't wear as much and there's never enough heat in such an engine to touch the teflon. Back in the day, it was my favorite method to make a very long term flying (endurance race) RC. Also, they keep using flat pistons, but just like the real deal, shaped heads have better ignition, heat distribution and compression.

    On the Toyan FS-L400, same number of cylinder, fuel and displacement, they give the power output of 3.05hp, so 2200 watts... yeah, right...

I'm an electrician and we use dry resistant or a dry generator coupled like that set up for engine-generator tests and it's good to test temperature and horsepower/ consumption. Just need to make a conversion on the load/ Jules/power output/ time. You have charts conversions online. Very nice 👌
