those people are sitting there not even giving a shit about the music and im sitting here wishing I was born in that era and can be in front of that beautiful music full of passion and soul.Nobody ever appreciates what they have
Len Burke and thank you and your family for music that will never be forgotten. I so wish it could all happen over again but at least we have CZcams and your recordings
The Stairsteps overflowed with maturity, and polished dignity. With gifted voices, style, presence... all the makings of a quality group. Today's world needs much representation with these kind of qualities, just as you and your family gave us growing up. There will never be another Five Stairsteps, but I pray something comes close to that kind of quality for the future. You all are cherished FOREVERMORE.
Wow, a member of the first family of soul. Before the Jacksons and everyone else. Thank You for setting the path that so many followed Your family opened a lot of doors. Again, thank You.
Forever and a day!! You all earned every ounce of it! October 17 2019. Your music has stood the test of time!!! May God continue to bless you all, as you have blessed!!
The audio recording can't even capture that range! What an amazing song. Those people hanging off the pier will never even understand the magic they witnessed.
THE BURKES FIRST FAMILY OF SOUL (ALWAYS) You can't give a title and take it back. GREAT SONG AND VOCALS, AWLFUL FILM LOCALE AND TIRED AUDIENCE!!. ALL NIGHT THING IS MY NATIONAL ANTHEM, THOSE WERE THE DAYS, PARTY ALL NIGHT LONG, UNTIL THE BREAK OF DAWN>>> THE MAN WAS A GENIUS!! RIP BURKE CHILD OLD GOLD
This music was like manna from heaven, nurishing the soul of us young brothers enlisted in the military back in the mid to late 60's. Without it, God only know how difficult and unbearable life would have been. Beautiful!
I was fortunate to see this group perform back in the day at the Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C. They were awesome and very young. They performed like adults and their choreography was amazing. In fact, their choreography and singing was a whole lot better than the Jacksons.
one of my FAVOTRITE groups on the planet!! i've taught my daughter about the music of my day, so she can have an appreciation of what "real" music was like.
times were simple.. we stood around hot in the summer. for those of us in the groove, we loved folks as such coming from the inner city. they delivered music like no other. catching these kats gave me freedom.
My MOMS Favorite Group when She was growing Up in the Mid 60's. Was a Hugh Fan of the Five Staristeps. Thier songs are timeless. OHH Child is a classic. I like theier classic Like U wanted to Long, World of Fanstay and theier remake on a classic Beatles or Smokey Robinson Song. I rather listen to the 5 Stair Steps than Toadys Crap.
Oh how I wish they filmed this in color. What a sweet tune and perfect setting for it. This is the kind of entertainment I'd stop to see had I been there.
Great stuff, I remember them as The Five Stairsteps with Cubbie, and this one was a particular fave, dancing cheek to cheek with my sweetie at the CYO and HS dances...aaaahhhhhhh!
The Jackson 5 and the Five Stair Steps used to compete in the talent shows at the Regal Theater in Chicago. The talent shows came after the main show (The Miracles, Jerry Butler, etc.) The Jacksons always won, but they were all fun to watch. Great times...
WOW, i swear if it wasnt for you tube,smh.. I grew up in a soulmusic household from motown to british invasion to John Coltrane. It took for me to read comments on the Sylvers video to discover this beautiful sounding famiy. Thank you.
Clarence Jr had great emotion. Their like the teenage version of the Platters. Very mature sound, which I loved. Some like the Jackson Five, some like The Five Stairsteps, it all has to do with taste. I think the Stairsteps just needed more exposure and publicity and they would have been up there with the Jackson Five. The Stairsteps never did Ed Sullivan Show or American Bandstand, which was important for every artist to do to be able to cross-over, that's what helped The Jackson Five.
I REMEMBER THE 5 STAIR STEPS WALKING AND SINGING ON A SHOW BACK IN THE 60S BUT I DON'T NO WHAT SHOW IT WAS , IT COULD BE THE TWO THAT ARE SHOW ON YOUTOUB, IT IS MENTIONED THAT THEY PERFORMED ON WHERE THE ACTION IS, BUT DO THEY SHOW THAT EPOSODE, I LIKE TO SEE THAT SHOW IF ITS AROUND.
They were talented, but the problem with this group was that they had poor musical direction. By contrast, the J-5 were given the proper direction, with Gordy and others writing hit material and others at Motown effectively promoting the group to the public. The Stairsteps sang material which just wasn't commercial enough, and the way they were presented to the public, dressed in such vapid stage outfits, just wasn't appealing. Had they went to Motown, they probably would have been just as successful as the J-5.
Thank you, just a reflection on times past compared to the vile, horrendous, sexual immoral modern times and people wonder what our world is coming to!
Clarence Burke Jr. and hopefully some other originals will be part of the 5th Annual Classic R&B weekend in The Poconos (Pa.) November 11 to 13, 2011. Others on the huge Saturday show include The Dramatics, Atlantic Starr, Blue Magic, Slave, and D-Train. Fernwood Hotel and Resort in Bushkull Pa. A weekend of activities with a live concert on saturday November 12th
@ElChupanebre2 good ear my friend. yes they sang on mayfield's record label and were influenced by the man. fred cash was a neighbor of the burkes. that is how the group got introduced to mayfield.
Why do we have to compare them to anybody, why can't it just be that they were a family group that made good music, why must the Jacksons be brought up every single time?? This group is a little before my time, but not the Jacksons and I can distinguish between the two, just enjoy the music..
Gm edagdwg thanks for sharing this story of what happens when you know I massed up sorry you will find someone else pay attention to what you want I'm going to be true to myself and move on still friends Linda j peace 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

Five Stairsteps one of the greatest groups of the 60s. I went to their shows every time
My favorite group when I was 14, seeing the Five Stairsteps perform at the Uptown, in Philly. Several times. Amazing.
Damn back in the day there kids made some bad ass music kids now can't do this
Yes they did
The entire group were children. nobody older than 16-18 or so.
One of the best groups ever!!! Five Stairstepss. Yes!!!! I saw the in person at the Uptown in Philly in the day!!!
This song is still touching and I'm in my late sixties...was in my early teens when I first heard this song.
What a beautiful beautiful sweet family!!
The contrast between young artists back in the 60s and 70s and young artists now is so huge. This family had a lot of talent and class.
And remember boys and girls, this was before all the wonderful technology of today that can make you SOUND like you have talent,,,, lesson over
The 5 Stairsteps harmony was incomparable. Nobody could sing that 6 part harmony like them, acoustically, if they had to. Well before DeBarge!
Killer early 60's soul. Love it. Curtis Mayfield's style all over it.
Cutie. Was the best singer. The family did the deal. 6 part harmony.
I seen them sing in person. Several times back in the 60s. Amazing
I've always liked the Five Stairsteps ... their voices soooo beautiful!
Black lights in the basement..NYC! Best days of my life and didn't even know it! Thanks for the memories!

This Group and the Mad Lads out of Memphis Tn. were the Baddest. Both SHOULD BE INDUCTED into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME.

I like this kind of music.

5 Stairsteps should have been as big as the Jacksons!

MusicandDancing4Ever I agree. Especially with Curtis Mayfield helping them, writing some of their songs. Awesome group.
