Fishing rod challenge! Can I break a St. Croix Mojo?!

  • Fishing rod challenge, can we break a St. Croix Mojo rod? The St. Croix Mojo fishing rod is probably one of the most underrated rods on the market, with a meager $120 retail value it's worth every penny. Watch Chris and myself test the boundaries of this rod by attempting a fishing rod break test by lifting heavy objects. Objects that include: A kayak anchor, leaf blower, dumbbells, chainsaw, wagon and a 60lb block. The rod is pushed to its limits until it ultimately implodes, breaking at the fore grip and the rod tip. This is the same rod I used to create my safety pin rod tip hack and you can see that it held up to all the abuse. This particular rod was the 7'6" medium fast inshore rod, a great choice for everything from snook, redfish, trout, flounder and bass. Buy the rods here:

7:38 That is proof that you should not high stick a fish when fighting a fish...NOW 60 lbs vs a med. St Croix.... No need to tell you who is going to win that argument. NOW in all seriousness I use St. Croix rods and truely love the quality that goes into the manufacturing of these rods.

In my opinion testing these rod out like this is probably a lot different then pulling a fishing in in the water. So for an example, lifting 20 pound dead weight on the rod is like fighting a 40 pound fish in the water. So videos like these actually prove how strong a rod truly is.

Have you purchased one lately? When I was describing how my two St Croix rods broke, the store clerk says he hears it all the time and that is why the stores will not ship modern rods back for you. It's not just that brand either. The quest for lighter more sensitive rods has destroyed any reliability. I was told I would have to pay shipping both ways although I wouldn't even know if they would replace it until I spent the first $20 to ship it. Why would I want to throw away even more money on a rod that I would have zero confidence in?

When it breaks, you must find your own long shipping tube and spend money to ship the thing back because the stores don't want any part of the garbage they are selling.

Bought a mojo inshore rod after seeing this video and snapped the tip off on the first fish it caught while reeling it in. No high sticking or anything. Took it straight back to Cabelas and put the reel on my old Shimano Teramar. I have several St Croix rods and love the ones that haven’t broken but this being the second of that brand to break on the first fish with a clean knife like break I think I’m done buying another StCroix. It’s a shame because I really like the rods but don’t have time wasting an entire fishing trip on a broken rod.

WesternGroove TV they’re durable, but with sensitivity comes the risk of breaking more easily. None have broken with a fish on, but pulling too hard on snags and stuff like that. Their customer service is awesome.
