  • A detailed assembly video of the Harbor Freight 3 1/2 cubic foot Cement mixer. The Cement Mixer goes together relatively easy. The tilt handle is difficult to put together but everything else goes together easily. The instructions for what bolts to use sucks. I hope this helps everyone to put this together more easily than the instructions.

I'm so glad I watched this video. I've been taking my time for a couple of days now and JUST got the drum assembled and mounted. I used a silicone sealant to stick the seal onto the upper half and beveled awls to align the holes through the seal. Putting a bolt through and moving the awls around as I aligned everything. I put the rubber seal grommets between the inner blades and the tub to dampen any vibrations and help cushion the blades when in use. Tomorrow I planned to mount the Motor and finish the job and .. guess what... I did the SAME as YOU and put the motor mount frame on the WRONG end.. which would cause me to have to Lift the heavy motor each to I reposition the Mixer. I'll unbolt from the bottom frame and swap it tomorrow... BUMMER! Thanks again!

So thankful I didn't have to put this ridiculousness together! I picked one up on Facebook Marketplace, but I got into an issue where I pouring cocrete with it myself in my basement, i had to deal with my concrete setting up on the floor and had to abandon the concrete inside the mixer and it ended up curing. I was trying to find of video of how this thing went together so I could get the top part of the drum off so I could try chipping out the concrete with my air hammer. Thanks for the video.

Very helpful. A parts list and description (how to identify the part) and where it goes would be excellent. I had the same problems as you did ad neglected to put locking washers which you noted and I did not use the fully threaded bolts and will have to swap them out. Noticed you neglected to use the gasket cement. I have some flexible gasket "rope style" which I intend to stick on both halves of the drum and then basically follow your suggestions for putting the 2 halves with the gasket together. That is where I am now in the assembly. My instructions are missing a few pages and I have downloaded a complete manual. I am taking my laptop outside and will use the video to complete the assembly. I tit the control arm the exact same way you did, but used an impact wrench. I agree with you that this was ridiculously hard. I almost considered drilling a hole in the control arm to enable using a flathead screw driver for a spring compression lever.

I did the same thing using a single pipe clamp. Works great (might need to run a drill bit through the hole 1st if it's too tight because of paint buildup). I would post a pic, but cannot find a way to do so here.

Assembling the handle with spring is easy. If you have a quick adjust steel bar clamp, just place one end at top and other end to where bolt goes through. Just tighten clamp and the bolt can then be easily inserted safely.

Just assembled one. The bolts are now in numbered plastic bags with a drawing showing where each numbered set of bolts is used. For anyone interested, there are no grommets in this kit-just rubber gaskets. Grommets are entirely different and are used for cushioning the sharp edges of holes through sheet metal. I agree that the gasket sealant is unnecessary. Your method works great. The bolts act as alignment pins and also hold the gasket in position. The reason you need to pull the bolts out one by one and reverse them is that the shape of the drum requires that the nuts and washers be on the underside. Don't forget to get the two holes in the side of the upper drum-half in the correct position so that the paddles/stirrers will fit.

March 13th, 2023- I'm assembling the mixer right now. None of the bolts are identified at all. The instructions assign a number to the bolts, but there is no reference to a diagram that describes the difference bolt sizes relative to the assigned numbers. Just as "IRmods services" states.

Just used this video to put this together. Only suggestion would have been to be more specific on EXACTLY which bolts go where because like it was stated it's not really clear which bolts, washers, etc to use. Also just as a tip I used a ratchet strap to compress the spring and tighten down the handle to get the bolt in. Pouring tomorrow so we'll see how it goes! Lol.
