The Future Hall Of Fame Pitcher Who Threw With The Wrong Arm

  • Billy Wagner was one of the best closers in MLB history with a fastball that topped out at over 100 MPH. Despite this, he actually wasn't throwing with his natural arm. He broke his right arm twice when he was seven and had to switch to being a lefty. So let's look at the life and career of Billy Wagner featuring his time with the Astros, Phillies, Mets, Red Sox, and Braves.

A guy who is a few years older than me was born a righty. We went to high school together. Both played baseball. He had such an unusual desire to play professionally he taught himself to throw lefty because he knew they were typically more desired.
The result was a 94 mph fastball and a 88 mph curve as a senior in high school.
Got drafted by the Blue Jays in the 3rd round.
Unfortunately injuries plagued him from there. He bounced around several years, signing with the A's organization and making it to triple a at some point but that's as far as it would go

His son was drafted recently in the late rounds by the Astros and is actually working his way up very fast and should be in triple A next year and will probably make his MLB debut within the next 2 years. Plays shortstop

Relief pitchers are the MLB's special teams equivalent, he's good but his role is too specialized and he also has fewer innings than the few other relievers in the hall while not having the transcendence of a Mo Rivera.
He should be in IMO but I get the case against him taking as long as it has.

The voters seem like they vote on a check list. If you don’t have marks in every box (hits, HRs, innings pitched, wins, etc) then you don’t get in. They still haven’t let Curt Schilling in and I’m pretty sure that’s because they don’t like him personally. Here’s hoping he makes, for the simple fact that he was one of the most dominant (left handed) closers ever.

Were they having an affair or did they just happen to be in the same place and get murdered by the same person or was that a mistake? To me era has a bit different meaning now compared to 25 years ago. 25 years ago starting pitchers went 8 innings, now they only go 5-6 innings on the average. So really u should divide their era in half to see how many runs they are giving up per start

    • @Christopher-cm6he
