    I have a 4-71 that runs our sawmill. My great grandfather bought it back in the 50s. It's been sitting for close to 10 years and it had 2 stuck injectors I did what you showed in your video and it worked perfect! Runs great again like it used to. Now time to put it back to work sawing lumber! Thanks for showing everyone your trick!

    Thank you so much!! My brother and I have been working on getting our dad's 59 John Deere 440ICD bulldozer running this year. After getting it moved into the barn, changing the oil and a getting new battery and cables, we were able to get it to crank but it never would run. After finding that the injector control tube seemed to be frozen, we found your video. Neither one of is much of a mechanic but we were able to follow your procedure and after purchasing a brass punch and a can of FREE-ALL - BOOM! She started right up!

    Thanks so much for taking the time to get video of this and explain it. There are still so many of these engines out there, but so few work on them (yours is one of the only videos on CZcams about the two stroke injectors.) This is such a common issue, especially for trucks and buses that sit. And a dangerous issue for the older style fuel rods (one injector sticks, and the engine can run away!)

      This is for engines that have been sitting a year or more and if thats the case u need to pop the covers off and have a look or u risk a runaway and or pushrod damage. If ur engine is running and sticks one you'll definitely know it. If an injector sticks for any reason other than sitting a long time it needs to be replaced.

Got it up and immediately pickled it with diesel till it ran out the dipstick, after draining the brackish water, turned it by hand a few rotations, I have two hot batteries in a checked out starter and it won't quite turn over, even though I can turn it over by hand although tight
    I know nothing about diesels or shrimping, I'm getting an education on the fly, I thought I would try pulling injectors and see if I can get it to turn over by the starter
    I don't mind yanking out all 8, matter of fact I want it tight cuz they don't have tow trucks up in the gulf, but I don't want to screw anything up
    I thought about going ahead and yanking the injectors and taking them and have them rebuilt, can you tell me the process so I don't screw up my whole life here worse than my boat sinking?

    • @Ol2Stroker
      @Ol2Stroker  Před 5 lety +1

      you need to remove the injectors and get the water out of the cylinders. pivot the rockers up out of the way by removing the fuel injector lines and the 3/4 bolts holding the rockers. Then there is a 9/16 bolt that holds the injector down. remove that and pry injector out. you should be able to remove them all without removing the rack or bending anything just rotate injector counter clockwise as you pull up and hold rack to no fuel. turn over by hand and get all the water out of the cylinders. i wouldn't be surprised if you bent a rod already it doesn't sound like you're too familiar with engines.

    • @lostchurch6921

      @@Ol2Stroker a rod? I'm not real familiar but I'm pretty sure that's bad
      I drained the water/ oil out and turned by hand maybe 8-10 rotations assuming I got the salt water out, then pickled with diesel to the brim, drained and put fresh out and filter. I can turn it by hand however it's a little tight. Had the starter checked by rebuilder and they said it should have no issue turning it over, batteries 12.64 volts a piece, yet something seems to be hanging up, binding like
      Could I still have water in the cylinders, or rust tightening , or you think I already bit the bullet on a rod or something?

Not sure if fuel was coming out from the plunger or it was cracked but fuel was seeping all around the injector on to the head. Basically do what "super pickle" says. Not sure why management didn't have the manufacturers of the machine fix it because machine was brand new and engine should of been under warranty.

    Does this same procedure apply to the 4-53 also, and is this what causes a runaway?

      I would like to add that after a procedure like this, make certain that your emergency shutdown is functioning correctly. You never know why an injector hangs up, whether from gum or a drop of water. If it's gummed up that's all well and good, but if it is a speck of rust, it will scratch the bushing or the plunger and the injector's days are numbered, even though it appears to function. Additionally, the whole idea of the spring-loaded levers was to negate the need for a shutdown flap, so your engine may not have one. Just for my own piece of mind, I would always prepare an easy place to put a board over the intake for that initial start, if what I was working on had spring loaded levers.

      The emergency shut down is a last resort kind of thing. like trip and run. When you trip it on a runaway engine some times it will blow the seals and then suck the oil from the crankcase and keep running on that oil.. Only sure way is to have a shut off valve on fuel supply at the pump to cut fuel off from injectors. When a fuel injector is stuck fix it right. every see one of these engines coming apart from a run away will make make you learn to do things the correct way. Ever see a truck cab after a fly wheel has tore it up. Or the holes in the shop walls after a Detroit has slung metal through them . general rule balance on front of crank goes first. And depending on year model and type the old ones will come apart at less than 3000 rpm. i have un stuck injectors this way but i had installed fuel cut off before starting engine. After seeing a couple Detroit's come apart days latter. I now remove injector and repair proper way.A new rebuilt injector is only about 80 bucks.Or you can rebuild your own one. ..@@ASPCOT

      always before starting up a detroit that has been sitting a long time. check the rack for ease of movement. turn the engine over slowly if possible. stuck injectors will stay compressed. the rack won't move either. i learned the hard way, an old engine started up wide open for a few moments until i hit the flapper. make sure the flapper is open and set on the trip

    If y'all want this to stop happening, use some 2 stroke fuel additive. Just google whats out there... just make sure it's not red in color (farm fuel is red, and you'll get a major ticket if they find it in a road truck).

    • @cliffclark6441
      @cliffclark6441 Před 5 lety

      Or filter and use a gallon black motor oil. Turns whole tank of fuel black and is legal.[ up to 10 per cent ] It would really take a lot of 2 stroke oil to make any difference in a tank of fuel. Yes farm fuel is red and easy to spot, But when they are checking your fuel they do not only go by color. Lots of dump truck owners buy and use old transformer oil [ from the transformer oil changes ] in there trucks. It looks like diesel. And is cheap. But if you get caught the fine is pretty high. But thousands of gallons are bought and used every year from electric service companies.

    • @Kaliburz
      @Kaliburz Před rokem

      I use 2 stroke oil in the fuel in my normal old diesels. Usually it is 1/2 oz per gallon of fuel..... but have used a 1 to 1 ratio.. I am planning to get an old Detroit so I will have to check the injectors
