  • Found this CB550 that had been previously converted to a cafe racer some time ago. The previous owner had disassembled it for paint and it never went back together again. Had been in storage ever since

    Good to see you have another toy to play with, I’m definitely with you on placement of those gauges moving them closer together and bringing them down is exactly what I would do too, we have the same taste, can’t wait to see more of this bad boy.

      Cheers Dan! The tach was unfortunately reading wrong so I ended up centering and dropping the speed down. Actually have a vid for that uploading right now! Good to hear from you! 👍

      Combustion Junction I’ve always been here, I just don’t always get a chance to binge watch videos. I like the fact you now have a virago 👍 when is that video coming 😮 you don’t have to answer that haha, I get that question a lot lol

      @@CafeRacerGarage Lol You probably have been asked that hundreds of times. The virago vid is almost done, fun one to work on as the subframe lets you do whatever you want.

    Hi CJ. I really enjoy your channel. My first bike was a Red CB360T back in in 1979. I graduated to a CB550 while in college. There were a a few more bikes in between, including a 1975 Norton 850 Commando. I'm back in the saddle now (after an absence of nearly 30 years) and just finished (with my mechanic's help) putting an 82' Yamaha XV920J back to stock, so I'm excited to see what you will do with your Virago in coming episodes. (Oh, and I live in the big smoke too, at six points) Lots of coincidences.Happy to be here.

      Lol. No kidding. My in-laws lived @ Kipling x Bloor for years. Glad your enjoying it, I have a Xv920 as well but that is for later 😬. Once these are out of the way the 360 gets full attention. Keep in touch, we can have a ride in the nice weather.... once it gets here 🥶

    brake fluid removes paint and is safe on plastic so i would think safe on rubber too.

    Quite sure you will run into clearance issues with the speedo and tachometer cables fowling the headlight bucket when you drop the gauges down, I did on my 550 especially if you mount the gauges closer together. Just something to keep in mind. Good find though. Cheers.

    • @Beachmangarage
      @Beachmangarage  Před 4 lety

      Hey Wayne, thanks for the input! The angle on the cable connectors were pretty extreme and I was able to drop the speedo quite a bit. Ditched the tach though, unfortunately it wasn't reading the rpms accurately. Video out soon. Cheers!

      @waynehawes9946 Před 4 lety

      Yes, there is 2 different speedo drive ratios used on these early Honda’s and the 550 is the odd one to the rest. Made that mistake myself too. Thanks.

    Si what are you going to do with it? A budget fix up and sell? Great find (depending what you paid for it) !

    • @Beachmangarage
      @Beachmangarage  Před 4 lety

      Yep, you pretty much nailed it, gonna try and leave the basic look but do a little nip and tuck here and there. Just finished filming the re-mounted speedo... Yah, the guy selling it for his friend was a triumph guy, just wanted out of his space.... The pics in the ad were terrible, looked like a basket case, all the perfect recipe for a good deal 😁 Cheers!

    cafe racers need that bald headed look a line going as level as you can back, that why you need clip ons or clubman. those gauges to big , get some small ones go lower or level with , triple tree . ''not bad looking

    • @Beachmangarage
      @Beachmangarage  Před 4 lety

      spymaine89 totally agree! Gonna get those gauges as low as possible. Cheers.
