    40 years owning a boat and I still make rookie mistakes.
    My FAVORITE part of the video is seeing you take your hat off when running on plane. One of your previous videos you were holding the hat on your head with your hand.
    Congrats on the boat . Tight lines.

    We all had our first day, week, month of boating. You will make mistakes, but that's how you learn. Don't be afraid or embarrassed. Once you get a system down, it will become a whole lot easier and less stressful. One tip, don't talk to others while doing your boat prep or while launching. It gets you out of your routine and that's when mistakes tend to happen. We look forward to following you on your journey. Best of luck

    Love hearing you giggle with your new boat! I’m having so much fun watching you learn as it’s helping me tremendously. The most I get to do on our boat is back it off of the trailer and put it back on. The trolling motor is a beast for me as well! These videos are helping me too and making me want to jump in!

    Good video, and no biggie on the switch. One thing I didn't see, and sorry if I missed where the connection was made; Texas has a Kill Switch Law... It must be connected to the driver when the boat is above headway speed (idle).

    When I was a kid, My dad got a new boat, we took it to a local lake to do the break in period and like you mentioned, I was In the boat, he backed up the trailer, the boat came off, and wouldn't start, the wind kicked up and trying to paddle a heavy fiberglass boat, especially for a kid it dang near impossible hahaha, finally had someone trying to leave help push us back up to the ramp and winched it back on the trailer. Fun times and to this day, I wont unclip that latch on the front of the boat until the boat is running.
    Thanks for sharing your experience with everyone and I hope you both have a blessed week my friend.

    Love the videos. One tip and I’m sure some will debate it but when you put your rods on the deck put the reels at the bow and the rod tips at the console. That way your reels will catch on your rod strap while running. Less chance of one or multiple’s flying off the deck in rough water. Also they are right at your fingertips when you need to pick one up.

After watching lots of folks and doing a bit of research on You Tube University, I knew for sure I would be using a separate pole for the transducer. I found a good mount from GG Fishing that uses a painters pole and a Ram mount. I will be able to spot lock and scan.

    Kristine, Buy yourself a 1600 amp Lithium Battery jump box .charge it and leave it in the boat. it will save your butt more than once.after a long day with the front trolling motor you sometimes need a jump on your starting battery. always check your bilge pumps before leaving.if they don't work you will sink. the real. meaning of the word boat is Bring Out Another Thousand. I just switched from kayak fishing with totally loaded kayaks and custom trailer to G3 Sportsman 1810 with power poles and all the electronics also. I had some anxiety for loading and launching alone and the process but got way easy after only a couple time.. still have my checklists. Hardest part for me is figuring out big bodies of water and narrowing down the 90 10 rule.We are exactly in same phase. I have only been out 4 times, 3 alone. We will get it down. I already feel ten times more confident on basics.

    Great video! I too am a kayak fisherman who bought a boat last year. The speed is nice to cover water, but I do miss the "intimacy" you get on a kayak. Be careful with that big 250! Been seeing WAY too many fishing boat accidents lately, so only take her out in what you feel comfortable doing and when in doubt.... slow down. You will be handling your boat like it's second nature very soon, boat control is key, especially if you are scoping. I look forward to seeing your adventures on the water!

    Strange how "forgetting" a step is sometimes the best way to forever know that step thereafter. lol. I'm that way with the drain plug. I remember when I was a kid, my dad and I almost sunk in our old John boat because we forgot to put the plug in. Now, it's forever engraved in my memory as a vital check point.

  • @AsianAmerican113
    @AsianAmerican113 Před 2 měsíci

    Don’t forget when your loading the boat to always make sure it’s all the way butted up on the roller, any amount of play even small can be a very costly mistake. I think it’s a lot easier wrenching an Aluminum boat compared to a heavier fiberglass rig.

  • @michaelsanchez3659
    @michaelsanchez3659 Před 2 měsíci +2

    Wind is just as much a factor for a big boat as it is a kayak. Always try to go against the wind with the nose pointed straight into it. It might also be helpful to get a butt seat for the front of the boat until you get good and comfortable using the trolling motor and balancing on one foot. Keep going!

    Great Job on your first trip out. Don't worry about the switches being on. I just did that in my last club tourney. Only criticism is I didn't see you wearing your Kill switch. That is a requirement any time the main motor is on and in gear, especially during tournaments. The more you get out, the better you will get most of all, enjoy the experience!

  • @douglasporterfield8681
    @douglasporterfield8681 Před 2 měsíci +6

    Kristine, I’ve enjoyed watching you channel for several years and it will be great to watch this new phase of your career. Please, please, don’t start your engine without wearing your life jacket and having the kill cord securely attached to you and in the clip in the kill switch. I watch a lot of people take off with out either the life jacket or kill switch on and I guarantee they would never take off without them if they had ever seen how fast and how easy you can be throne out of the boat and if they have seen what if left of a person after they have been run over by an outboard motor that is running out of control because the drive had not attached a kill switch properly. I would suggest also that you take not only a safe boating course but also ask a seasoned friend who has run their boat in the worst of conditions and go out on the windiest day you can get to learn from them how to handle both the boat and the water so your ready for that day when it’s just you and the life of you could-angler on board and can return to fish another day. Looking forward to more videos and a great new safe and successful adventure to the Bassmaster Classic.😊

    Love the boat! Congrats.

    Just a tip: Drotto’s are easy to find used and are really only needed for roller trailers. With bunks you won’t need it.

    Besides the drain plug being in....the next most important thing is ALWAYS have the kill switch cord attached to you when running the boat.

    It's so weird seeing you cast from a boat deck. You'll get the hang of everything and it will become second nature. Very sweet boat Kristine.

    been there many times myself. Best thing I do now is keep a little notebook with a checklist of things to do when launching and when bring boat back in. But you will make mistakes for sure.

    Kill switch and Life jackets, I'm gona keep on you about this because it's important especially for a new boat owner. Not picking, just reminding!

      I clip my kill switch to my life jacket and set my life jacket on the seat while I fish. It's always connected to me once I put my life jacket on for a run.

    Before long you'll be fine. Like you said back the boat in and start the motor. If it doesn't start your don't have to crank back on the trailer.

    I don't care what anyone tells you Do Not unhook the front until the trailer wheels are touching water. It doesnt matter how careful or good you are if that is unhooked while your backing down it can come off the trailer and end up on the ramp.

    Wearing that kill swiitch at all times is one of the most important things to remember, If your stopped by a game warden thats an automatic ticket in the state of Texas in the larger tournment trails if your polygraphed it can keep you from getting a check. And most Importantly it could save life!! at 70 mph things can go bad quickly.
