Last time I had Keaton Batman figure in the 90s he could just move his arms and legs and I was blown away by this articulation of course :)
Batpops
There was nothing like Batman 89’ at the time.
That movie blew our minds back then.
Still holds up as the best batman imo
Almost the best figure to date!😉👍
@@brooksysdead its a good movie, its a terrible batman movie
Michael Keatons batman was genuinely good because of a mix of things, the dark aesthetic of tim burton blended well, also his Bruce Wayne Portrayal where you would guess he was a billionaire playboy, not some emo kid, but also there being times when he sees the joker kill in public as Bruce Wayne and he's unfazed
Batpops!!!!
The thing about keaton is that he can act. He didn't have the look of batman but he had the feel especially in suit. Definatly one of the best depictions on screen hence them bringing him back!
I think he nailed the role as bruce and batman. Love those movies
Also, qotd is purely nostalgia as the original film is the template that made Batman become the character he is throughout the years.
Also, the TAS version wouldn't exist without the original Burton films, so I will always appreciate.
Second qotd, as long as you do have a good implementation and wires to mould it like Mafex does, I'm ok with it. The Plastic capes are good when they are not trying to be cheap with it
I grew up with Michael Keaton as batman so at least as a live-action portrayal, he was it for me. Now I am ambivalent about the casting and his portrayal given how I see the character but he is still an icon and no one can take that away. Far as I’m concerned he deserves the recast and the credit. Thx, Anthony!
I like soft goods when theyre integrated well. Jedi cloaks for instance. Capes depend on how they connect. Lot of times Superman capes are iffy. Batman varies based on if its suppose to be part of the cowl or not. Generally i like unwired too. Im usually not posing super dynamic capes and prefer them to lay nice and not be bulky.
Keaton definitely nailed the stoic silence of Batman, and honestly I think he as an actor was the best part of his Batman, the suit and script didn't always give him a lot to work with. Those films were before my time and for me personally I don't find much in the way of value in them besides the excellent music and some cool set design. I think it was really just that nothing like his Batman had ever been seen before, again being the first dark take on the character I imagine left a pretty big impression on a lot of people.
He was honestly great and while he isn't my favourite he had a really strong presence every time he's on screen in the costume especially in the first movie.
To be honest, I don't really mind the little changes that Warner Bros. for Michael Keaton's Batman Returns suit with a black belt for The Flash movie and I do wish the belt was still yellow, But still, I am happy that Michael Keaton is returning, Great review.
Pretty solid looking figure and I like the cloth cape on this one. I love the Keaton films and I definitely think it's a bit of it being the first and how the films were executed
Hey is there a way to make the bat logo less crooked on the McFarlane Keaton I got ?
Picked this up a few weeks ago, I already shaved and sanded the tips of his ears and swapped the cape out with a wired pleather cape, I also painted his boots a semi gloss black.
McFarlane makes so many Batman figures it would be cool if they made the capes all removable and swappable. Every cape sculpt has a different dynamic look so if they were swappable you can pose up different Batman figures however you want not just in a way for the cape to look right. And they should do some figures with cloth capes going forward and have a mixed bag
I like how they have really nice neck articulation to a Batman known to not be able to then move his head in the mask. It’s kinda funny
When it comes to capes, I prefer cloth capes. I mod capes that dont have poseable wires and I mostly pose my figures that have capes (and the characters that fly/glide) I put flight stands for them. So that's why I prefer cloth capes over the sculpted plastic ones
Can you try to customize the cowl?
an amazing vid as usual. keep up the amazing work! i love your channel
Took a pair of model nippers to my Batmans ears and it worked brilliantly
i'm curious to know which action figures have the highest cake ratings. Like a top ten list.
I'll probably wait for a discount on that one since I'm never too sure about McFarlane. I'm glad this Keaton Batman was given a little more "respect" when compared to Bale Batman. I've some nostalgia over this one since I'm a 90's kid and my parents loved the Keaton movies at the time.
cloth or plastic is on a case by case basis for me , but I do tend towards plastic capes more when there not to stylized or heavy.
This figure came today along with a Lego tumbler and it looks fantastic
The shoulders work fine and will go out laterally into a T pose. Both of mine were stuck and required heat to go past the detent.
Showing my age here: back in the day the last page of Comic Scene magazine was dedicated to comic properties "in production" (film, tv, etc). Month after month of disappointment until June 1989 when Keaton's Batman broke the pattern by not only happening but actually being good (if not great). We were also riding high in a post-Dark Knight Returns/Watchmen world from a couple years prior, and (American) comics were starting to be taken seriously as an art form. My long winded point: it's almost impossible to NOT love Michael Keaton's Batman (heck, in my case it literally came out on my birthday). Doesn't mean the others haven't been great, but Keaton is always gonna be Batman, just like Christopher Reeve is always gonna be Superman.
As for plastic vs. fabric capes: it depends. 😁 Solid review as always, thanks! 👍
The visuals and effects and actors. It was all practical effects, like the Thing!
Even to this day, the Keaton,Batman movies are the most rewatchable, in my opinion. I just really like the aesthetics and the way the charachters were portrayed. I think it's the closest there has been to seeing Batman as a COMIC BOOK, translated to screen. And a bit of that comes from Keatons movements and acting. Sik
In 1989, I was a bit young for what was going on with Tim Burton's Batman. My friend and I actually walked out and went to the arcade instead. Another 2 or 3 years and I probably would have liked it a lot more, and I certainly appreciate it now. Keaton was a great Bruce Wayne... awkward in a lot of ways, but trying to be either slick and successful or dark and brooding depending on what face he was putting on. Probably exactly what would happen to a traumatized child who lost his parents far too young.
Keaton Batman is iconic. Excellent review Anthony❣️❤️💯
Keaton batman was made the standard in dark and brooding batman. the fact he was known as a comedic actor his straight man/serious tone is what mad him great
Cloth capes are always superior in my opinion and Michael Keaton is a great Batman I had zero nostalgia for him since I grew up in the 2000s so when I watched Batman 89 for the first time as an adult I had no bias and still loved his performance (minus the let’s get nuts bit and sleeping upside down lol)
Keaton is 5’6, Bale is 6’1 - I’ve seen both their suits in person.
I prefer cloth capes, especially wired. I really like Keaton and think he did a great job as Batman, but there's no denying there's a lot of nostalgia as well. My favorite overall movie Batman is Bale's Batman.
Listened to a movie commentary podcast years back and a guy's take on Keaton's bruce wayne was that he portrayed a weird rich guy, not just a dashing charming rich snob
For $19.99 or a bit more it’s good enough for me. I thought you’d like this one. Glad you did 😊. Great review! The accessories just need a coat of black on them.
Those two points on the side of the logo is accurate to the movie suit
Is it true that there's a limited stock on this one and its going to be hard to find???
It's going to be hard to find regardless. Keaton Batman is popular, and we haven't had too many figures of his version over the years. The moment it was announced, the figure became highly sought after.
I don't know if there's a limited stock with this figure and the Batmobile. It's possible that it might be, yeah. But I can see Todd producing another run.
I was able to get one and i had to ask the guy to look in the back for it.
I started collecting in 2021 and this is the first time that ive gone to the store more than three times a week looking for something. Never seen him on a single shelf yet. Still no batmobile either...
I don't think it'll be a problem in the long run. It's not exclusive and todd seems to overproduce evening that isn't exclusive
Are you thinking of doing the battfleck figure as well?
Already filmed
@@AnthonysCustoms awesome! Look forward to it.
Michael Keaton was a good Batman for his time. I did end up shaving the ears a bit. If you take your time its not too hard. The collarbone piece was easy to fix with some super glue or hot water. The cape drapes well when you fold it over the back.
The weapons are in scale which is nice.
I also used a panel marker on his jaw line to better integrate the flesh tone.
Man I would love to see a stop motion of Darwin’s fatality move(s)
I think fully articulated action figures need cloth capes, plastic capes get in the way and look really bad in action poses.
I personally like how Mattel used their capes, it was leather type material on the outside and cloth on the inside.
It depends. Toy biz did something similar for the marvel legends line, movie blade and punisher had coats made of that material. Sadly on my figures those have completely desintegrated.
@@overload81 I remember but it's weird not all toybiz had them
I want to paint that belt so bad!
Bale is 6’0”
While Keaton is 5’9”
I find it kinda funny they give the version of the Batman who can’t move his neck a neck joint that actually functions
I think the way tim Burton filmed him he was a good batman, i think he had the most merchandising for the time which popularized him for a generation. I think he makes an even better old man batman though, like he would be great for a batman beyond movie rightnow.
Michael Keaton is a very good Batman. Cool figure too!👍
What u think of the Hot toys Dark Knight Batman?
Why didn’t they make more stock of this figure? I heard the shipments contain only 1 masked Keaton and 5 gold label unmasked versions.
Micheal Keaton is tied as the best Batman with Kevin Conroy (RIP).
At least the center logo is centered better than mine😢😢
For your question He was ok reason he’s considered great is the nostalgia of him really being the first down to earth superhero movie it felt real at the time. It was the revolutionary in the superhero industry as a whole. And i think he was big because people were shocked how good the movie was because people thought Keaton was gonna ruin the whole thing. It’s multiple factors why people love him as Batman. Was he really a great Batman for the time yes but now he’s ok he’s somewhat good today.
For the time, he was a great Batman. For me, the stories of his movies, even being more excentric, were good.
Sold out. Not surprised. Same thing happened with the Mortal Kombat Spawn and the PS5 (Both of which I now have, luckily).
I should’ve hopped on this sooner and pre-ordered. Next time I will. Other people are greedy as hell.
I passed on this and just got the unmasked version bc of the antenna
I like Michael Keaton, but he is not my favorite on screen Batman. However, I can't argue that his portrayal of the Dark Knight is legendary.
Most of everything we know about Batman, in the modern age, can be traced back to the 1989 movie. Even the most famous Batman line, "I am Batman" can be credited directly to Michael Keaton himself. For most, the 90's animated Batman is the definitive Batman, but even that was a result of the popularity of those first couple Tim Burton movies.
So, is he the Best? Probably, and rightfully for most fans. Is he necessary? Absolutely. With that said, I can't wait to get this figure, and cloth capes all the way for this fella.
They forget to paint the gold belt😂
Actually it’s not gold in the flash, I thought it was 2 but no the figure is accurate
@@mrimpressions3158 yeah becasue now I saw some pictures with his suit. And looks more upgraded then what he wears back in 92
That looks cool
Keaton bm was not good, but as a kid, i was OBSESSED
It's surreal seeing a Keaton Batman with a well-articulated neck.
Is neck articulation even accurate for him!? Will his suit actually include it in the new movie??
Any chance you'll be able to review the latest mezco superman soon?
No plans to. I don't collect mezco
I think McFarlane could’ve splurged a little with this and tried a wired cape and put the price up to 30, god knows people would’ve still payed for it.
What happened to the arms for Christian Bale?
Watch that review and you'll see why they aren't connected
I never bought Keaton as Bruce/Batman, but I did enjoy the movies. I just picture Bruce/Batman to be more muscular/athletic, because he would have trained all his life to be Batman. As for being a Batman in a Tim Burton movie, Keaton works. I did like some things that Burton did to the Batman mythos, but there were things that I didn't like. Dare I ask what does Darwin do with all those heads that he collects? Trophies mounted on a wall?
I think he did great for the time. I do think he should have worked out more for the role. Batman and Batman Returns are 2 of my fave Batman movies.
I'm pretty sure they did the cloth cape so it'll be easier to put him in the mcfarlane batmobile.
Most likely
They absolutely did. It would be damn-near impossible to get a Batman figure with a plastic cape to sit properly inside the cockpit.
I don't expect cloth capes to become the norm. Todd made an exception with this Batman and the Affleck Batman.
@@AnthonysCustoms Any plans on reviewing the mcfarlane flash batmobile with the horrible canopy design? lol
No plans to buy it so can't review it
Been waiting 4 this 😂
Do you plan on reviewing the two Flash figs and Supergirl anytime soon?
No
@@AnthonysCustoms Fair
Will you do a video on the shf friendly neighborhood spider man
2nd Best but before Bale, he was my favorite so he'll always have a place in my heart and can't wait for his return.
I think McFarlane Lobo is pretty cool too.
Hes the first Batman so differ people like him more I think.
I can't tell if I'm biased about Keaton because his movies where a big part of my childhood and impact me greatly. I rewatch the movies lately and found them quite boring in comparison with later movies. What I do really miss is the touch of Tim Burton ambience and the music. I notice that I didn't care much who is playing batman as long as is not Clooney or Afflect.
QOTD: Yeah, sure. I don't see a reason to overthink it, those Batman movies just didn't call for much acting. Physically, his jaw looks good in the costume though he is short. Burton did a solid job of shooting around that, more so in Batman Returns than '89, but Keaton certainly was capable of doing everything the script called for. I like that he was good at having a different demeanor and vocal performance between Wayne and Batman without overdoing it (like Bale) which really helped pave the way for the best Batman, Kevin Conroy. I think it's defensible to dislike the Burton Batman since he is pretty lethal, but as far as doing what the role called for, Keaton was good.
NECA made a few a couple years ago.
Keaton is 5'10" He's my favorite of all the Batmans because he's by far the better actor than the rest.
Keaton's Batman was overshadowed by the villains. They simply out-acted him. Still like the movies for their gothic look, but performance-wise, Bale does a better job.
Now to the Batcave. I need the Bat Flame Extinguisher! :)
The head vaguely looks like a Val Kilmer Batman mask
I personally think the time period is what made his Batman so popular. You got arguably the best Batmobile and a very iconic Bat Wing. The suit itseld is also extremely iconlc. Michael Keaton himself as Batman wasn't the worse thing I saw and not the best either. The script was about a 3 1/2 out of 5 for me. The acting was cheesy in my opinon. But again, the time period. I think it was good for it's time. But I have preferences to what I personally feel was a better Batman and or Bruce Wayne.
Dope
I think this fig looks pretty dang nice overall, cept the nubby ears, wtf, im wondering if I can heat them up and squish them flat, the profile isnt bad but yeah from front it irks me.
I'm assuming that was done so kids didn't prick themselves on the ears. I don't know.
@@SlasherIncorporated idk, yeah between them wanting to be soft and not pointy they ended up rounded off, I have a second one coming in the mail so I can go mod crazy on one of them
@@rabidhammer31 Nice. Hopefully it comes out looking the way you want it to.
I don't he was a particularly good Batman, but those 2 movies are incredible! Joker, Catwoman, Penguin... Just amazing!
Do the fist hands swap onto the bale batman.
Probably not. And even if they did, it wouldn't look right. The gloves and gauntlets are completely different.
I'm not going to watch this movie unless I pirate it. Ezra isn't getting a cent of my hard earned money.
I think you are right, being first and also being good/decent
Michael Keaton is my favourite Batman.
Is McFarlane the first toy company since Kenner to give the Keaton Batman suit a neck joint, or did Mattel beat them to it?
Even NECA and Figuarts left him unable to move his neck for film accuracy lol
Mattel did it too. Their 3.75 Keaton Batman figure had a head swivel
The best Batman and the only Batman i love and not to mention the best Batmobile ever.
Keaton was great IMO. I think it might be due to the fondness for the movie but that movie (at the time) was incredible! Arguably the first great comic book movie.
he's still my favorite live action batman
Yeah I had mine for 5 minutes and tried to pose it with an arm up and it just popped right out. Nice looking figure, but super cheap.
Cloth fs but plastic capes are ok sometimes
He was an interesting Bruce for sure
It's kind of both, IMO. Yeah, he was the first "modern" Batman on film, and obviously that gave him a boost, but he's also a fantastic actor. The first movie, on the other hand... Eh... It hasn't aged as well. The sequel has much longer legs.
Cloth if it's a good material, not like those Mattel capes made of bog roll, and it absolutely needs to be wired. If you're not going to wire it, do it in plastic.
IMO Keaton is the best Batman arguably if not the most iconic atleast. His look / face in the suit was perfect and his portrayal was intense, tireless, and driven. I wouldn't say he's the best Bruce Wayne though.
for me Michael Keaton is the live action batman, while Kevin Conroy the best Batman. Maybe I'm biased, but don't really care. For me this is a really good figure from McFarlane's, but still bugs me with lack of thigh swivels and those shoulder pads. when I was messing with him I could already tell what you will probably criticise here. I managed to raise his arms almost horizontally but had to work those shoulder pads around the arm cap, it's doable and I really dig the rest of articulation here. I hope they can rework this suit into more of a Batman 89 and Batman Returns versions. Will you review Batmobile too?
ผ้าคลุมผ้า ชอบมาก
Keaton Batman is pure nostalgia, as someone who was a kid at the time and prime market for it, I ate it up. But I can see now that it just wasn't a very good Batman. We were all just starved for something besides campy Batman, which we realistically got with a coat of black paint.
That cloth cape was a lot better than I expected, every time I saw it online it looked like junk and I was planning on getting a custom, but it was great. I do plan on repainting that belt either way.
Not having the yellow/brass belt is a terrible oversight.
Ibdo like how he looks like he's wearing Nikes without the swoosh.
My problem is his neck - it would be more accurate if it was unable to move, as weird as it looked in the films
