"With my friend maxim I made a bet that he'll return" is a hard thing to translate. In the original russian, it's more like "I bet AGAINST my friend maxim that he'll return." Meaning that Maxim thinks hes gonna die, but the singer tries to encourage him and makes a bet that he'll live.
So in proper english it would be "With my friend maxim, he bets he'll die. But i bet he does"?

The “stars falling” refers to incendiary artillery rounds going off above a place. If you look up white phosphorus shells, you’ll see what they mean. Incendiaries are horrifying weapons, but they’re eerie and beautiful to watch go off.
