I'll be completely honest. Very surprisingly, I mostly agreed with JYP in this series and understood where his comments and criticisms were coming from (like the lack of emotions or facial expressions in certain members and so on). Of course that sometimes he criticized someone that I liked, but since I'm not a professional (and I don't understand dancing or singing that much), I took the criticism in stride. However, I HEAVILY disagreed with him in this episode regarding Tomoya. I was like: "What do you mean that he failed as a leader?!" That boy is an absolute gem when it comes to leadership which he already proved several times in previous missions. I mean, he's the only participant that happened to be a leader in every single mission since he always ended up high in the rankings (and they were giving the leader positions to those) so imagine the pressure. I cannot believe JYP had the nerve to straight up say that his leadership was disappointing just because he didn't like the performance of his other members. He's the one that put those members into Tomoya's team in the first place! Since the beginning of part 2 he was teaming up Tomoya with much lower rated members in hopes he would help them rise, and when it didn't work like he hoped, he seriously made it seem like it was Tomoya's fault?
Yeah, I really wasn't a fan of that comment. I was (and still am) very much pissed off about that because I found that comment extremely unfair. That kid almost bleeds for his team every single time, but he just cannot bring the visibly weaker members up to his level. Don't get me wrong, he's a really good teacher and he has already proven to be able to help his members get better but he's no miracle maker and I can't believe JYP wanted and expected him to be (a 17? years old kid by that time, may I add!).
This episode made me even question if JYP liked the fact that Tomoya was chosen as the leader by absolutely everyone last episode. I wondered if he's suddenly trying to discredit him in favor of Haru as the final group leader (and this is nothing against Haru! he's also amazing leader, but to me, Tomoya has just something special, you know? and also you can't help but notice that Haru was always on that one strong team in each mission unlike Tomoya so you can't really compare their leadership when one of them gets great members all the time and the other gets the low-rated ones)... My other theory long before this one was that on contrary, he wants Tomoya as the final leader so he's testing him much harder than Haru by giving him "weaker" members and more difficult songs. But in that case, again, very unfair comment. I'm sooo proud of Tomoya and the response he gave though. I was really glad that he stood up for himself and his team and said that they put everything into it and couldn't do more. Because that's right! Hated the fact that it made Tomoya cry though. Anyway, let's move away from that otherwise I won't shut up about it. (Can you tell I'm still boiling because of it months later? :-D)
The ending of this episode really hurt and I couldn't handle all of the boys crying, especially all the trainees saying goodbye to Sodai. However, I was not surprised by the eliminated members. I actually had a pretty strong feeling that they would not make it based on JYP's comments and the rankings in all part 2. I wasn't surprised even by eliminated Sodai which surprised a lot of people back then, because unlike others, he just couldn't seem to fix the problems pointed out to him on several occasions, which really sucks because I definitely feel like JYP hoped he would fix them. I believe he really wanted him to debut because let's be honest, he really is a main vocalist material.
Performance wise, I definitely didn't think Tomoya's team was bad. While I agree that Haru's team was better (unsurprisingly considering who was in it), I think Tomoya's team did very well with such a difficult song (which was also relatively new at the time). As for Yuhi's team, although it had both Sodai and Taiga who didn't get to continue in it, I was very proud of them all because I was shocked when I heard they got to perform Hard Carry. Like seriously?! JYP really put them through it with that song. According to me, it's one of the most difficult songs he could've possibly picked, especially because of the choreography. It's incredibly intense and fast and even GOT7 sometimes struggled a little bit when they had to perform it because it really exhausts you a lot. (And I'm saying this with nothing but love because I LOVE GOT7. They are my second favorite group right after SKZ and they were actually the ones that brought me to kpop and later to SKZ. I once saw them perform a double speed version of Hard Carry on some variety show and yeah, they almost died.) I thought the boys did really good with such a difficult song, especially Yuhi killed it and I was glad he was recognized in the rankings. Their Hard Carry is actually another performance from this show that I regularly rewatch because I really love the song and especially Yuhi in it. (I still don't understand how exactly it happened because I feel like Yuhi didn't get much space in this show except for the last few episodes when he was the leader in two missions, but for some unknown reason I really grew to love him and he was my second favorite member right after Tomoya.)
Lastly, I'm really looking forward to next week. You will finally meet the complete group! Cannot wait! :-)
PS: I am so sorry for the length of this comment. This is how it turns out when I decide to express my annoyance once a year, lol. But I have a feeling the comment next week might be even longer since it's a finale and I'll be able to talk without worrying about spoilers. :D

      Very well said!!
      You explain things very well!
And I totally agree with your thoughts on Tomoya’s experience.
The integrity and leadership he displayed made me respect him even more. He’s definitely being tested very hard. And I think he’s handled the pressure with good grace.
But yea, the end of this episode also wrecked me…
Looking forward to your thoughts for the final episode!!

regardless of how star kids does for their performance ( I think they did wonderful, some lacking but overall enjoyable) I really respect Tomoya for standing up for his teammates and decide to stand his ground saying they practiced hard and no one regret it
also I was just like you, I think sodai will definitely make the group since he's the strongest vocalist in the show but nope I was so shocked

39:42 you were so right. The show has given him teammates that require so much attention to him in terms of skill. He keeps losing because of that but made him shine more eventhough he shines in every stage in his own way.

    NIZI PRO 2

    • (All for one) - Oh god, I love Yuhi's stage presence so so much. Sodai's voice is very clean and he has the potencial to be an amazing main vocalist. Eiji's dance is always very powerful, the song was perfect for him and Taiga's effort really shows, I also really liked his dance. Overall their performance was so good more than I expected💖
    • (Star Kids) - Miraku did well in terms of his confidence, Sean did a decent job but I think his dancing lacks more precision, Yuki did very well but having a growing voice I feel like it didn't fit the song much, he still did a decent job in this performance and Tomoya as always shining in his perfomances, I really loved his stage presence and he was a good leader👏
Omgosh I didn't think they were going to eliminate three of them in this episode, I thought Sodai would still be on the show. I cried too much for his elimination, I really hope he can achieve his dream because he has GREAT potential, same for Taiga and Sean, I hope to see them in the future. 😞💙
Well, there are the last two episodes left to see the final group, I'm very excited. Whatever the result, I loved seeing all the effort and growth of the boys.

Tomoya’s team I feel did the best they could with what they had. And of course, Tomoya was awesome!

I’m looking forward to the finale!!

JYP did say that ANYONE on the second and third place teams could be eliminated so it was in thier best interest to strive for first to guarantee a spot to move forward, though when I first watched this I was also a bit shocked we lost 3, I thought it would at most 2! I think JYP is really testing the limits of Tomoya's leadership skills. But he must still consider that Tomoya can only push a member toward his limit, not beyond it, and if a member can't do it, it's not Tomoya's fault. Ken and Seita improved under his watch - even Yuki - because said members STILL CAN IMPROVE. But if guys like Miraku or Sean hit dead ends, Tomoya really can't do anything about it.
But what if you put Tomoya in a group with quality members? Put him alongside Haru, Yu and Yuhi? I think that would've been a different story. Heck, maybe if Sodai was given a chance to team up with him, his potential could've been unlocked.
Speaking of Sodai, I was sad he got cut - really thought he'd make it, being probably the best singer of the lot. Obviously he went the Yuna Route (or Gina, if you prefer A2k) - destined for greatness, but got lost along the way. Taiga also went the same route - the training just didn't produce the results. Sean has talent, but just doesn't seem coherent when in a group.
Next week is the 2-part finale, and you'll see the final line up. No spoilers, just a teaser: the last spot scenario will mirror both the finale of NPS1 and A2K, but the result will surprise you.

I do think the expectation on Tomoya was unfair. He was not a professional or a trainer at the time..
I will be extremely interested so see how he works with a more powerful group. It’s going to be incredible, I think.
I can see why the three of them got cut but it makes me sad… especially Sodai. I really hope he finds a place to use his talents.

Tomoya got a bit of wake up call on his leadership today. I think why JYP cut 3 today was he realize Sodai and Taiga were not improving any mote as JYP Trainees. Next week I do have an issue with the finals.

Skill gap =/= lack of team work. Like most have said, it was really cruel and unfair of JYP to unload such a great burden onto Tomoya and blame him for it, too. He had the lowest ranking members on his team while Haru literally had the highest ranking members. Wasn’t fair from the start, yet Star Kids performed very well for trainees and mere participants of a survival show.

    • @StayMultiverse
      @StayMultiverse  Před měsícem +2

      Agree 100%
It was very unfair overall.. but it gave me even more respect for Tomoya’s character.

  • @piiyion
    @piiyion Před měsícem +2

Again, JYP is so unfair with Tomoya. He always puts him in a group with low ranking team mates, and expects him to make the other members go beyond their limits. He's a GREAT LEADER. He tried hard, he thought of ways to help the others to improve. And SKZ songs are hell !! It's sooo difficult. And honestly, they did great. Sure, the Heart Hunter team was waayy better, but come on, look at the strong members in this team.
I think he was really unfair with Sodai and Taiga too. They improved, not as much as other members, but they did their best. I think JYP had already planned something in his head, and no matter how much these two would have improve, he will have something to criticize.
Third time watching this, and third time crying ! I can't, i love these boys !!! I was so shocked the first time, and it's always so hard to watch them crying and apologizing...
Can't wait for you to meet the final members, and to hear your thoughts about it. I have sooo much to say about the final episodes !!
