yes, it was a tv serial. video and audio fine , but lost the headers for the episode numbers
does it recover with file and directory structure too ? I need to recover 300gb worth of my web development projects data. that is like complete folders in folders with coding files.

I've been using testdisk for years. One memorable time was when a customer brought in a camera with an SD card that had a corrupt partition. I was able to recover the last pictures taken of her grandmother.

Just of now I had a lot of problems running Windows 11 on my PC (Pretty high-end one) and i had to diskpart clean my SSD to clear the format , but i mistyped wrong disk in the command and I lost my brick HDD which held a lot of pictures and videos gathered for few years. I've just realised I could've used this to recover files from the SD card that got corrupted and I gave to my mum along with my phone. But I think I've formatted it by now... Dang. I would've really liked those physique progress pics...

This program honestly is bloody fantastic!! Little hack for anyone trying to recover footage from a dvr - go into the file type selection bit and make sure "dovecot" is selected, the files can be converted in VLC after recovery to get the video to playback as normal 👌

This thing absolutely does recover files. I just hope it can get the video files I was after. I'm finding old memes I deleted, but so far, no video file has popped up. If no such thing appears from the USB drive or the SSD, I guess I'll just have to figure out if those 32kB .gz files are transfer packets and if I can use those to reassemble the video.

Not used this one, but it looks far easier than manually using a disk editor and chaining the non-contiguous blocks up manually like done in the days of yesteryear...

Can't thank you enough. Spent hours installing software that claimed it was free only to find out they charge. For you, I liked, subbed and shared and for the software creator, I will donate some money which is the first time I've actually ever donated for freeware software. That is how much I appreciate no being raked over the coals to recover important files.
My issue was copying over drone video files from an aerial shoot and halfway through the copy from a brand new SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB micro SD card to my computer, I started getting errors saying files weren't there. So I guess the partition somehow got corrupted. I've never seen that before so is that a bad micro SD card or just an rare anomaly?

Thank you! I accidentally overwritten my ssd with a version of windows by accident and I was horrified I would never see all my data again, the only unfortunate thing is my ssd is now destroyed (1tb went to 30gb)

Good vid Brian. Are the recovered file names original or generated by the software? It can be a real time consuming task to rename the files as you made them. I use Wondershare Recoverit. It was the best IMHO against 3 others including yours. Why? Because it has the least amount of hits with "lost file name". Can you imagine renaming video and music files manually? Hint: The file's metadata might bail you out as to what file it is. G'day Mate 👍

The difference is that it's not free.
If master file table is lost or corupted then ya get no filenames.. regardless of program.. except for files with metadata containing the original filename.. (wich is rare as that data is supose to be,, meta :P)

Edit: I ran the program. I was surprised there wasn't a MP4 file extension in the file format choices. Can you add a custom one?
Of all the weird file extensions mp4 isn't listed. I mean recovering a Nintendo NES file but not mp4????

My problem was that my harddisk wouldn't spin but I had also an exactly same harddisk than is working so I thought that would be easy sollution. Switch the motherboard on de HD and yes after I done that the hadrdisk would spin again. So I thought I was done but NO. If the BIOS on the HD Motherboard is not the correct one (original) the BIOS on the motherboard of the computer will not see the harddisk so I still can not access it.
I'am trying loads of software and most programs see the phisicaldrive but still I can not recover the data. 😭
I'am now running PhotoRec for about an hour but it has not find anything. It is looking for only MP4.
You mentioned a program GetDataBack but if I search for it I get multiple options. Can you give the right link please.
Maybe you know an other way to solve my problem. If so please can you give me some advice.

It's beyond stupid how this free software crushes all of the pay walled bloatware that does nothing or worse than nothing (EaseUS). THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THIS TO MY ATTENTION
Trying to find a way to recover files off a hard drive that doesn't show up in file manager, disk management, device manager, or even the BIOS. I DO hear it try to run when connected internally though. Likely will have to pay a local pc repair shop for data recovery services

Does a file shredder at least 2 passes prevent software but something like 7 passes for sensitive data?
Yes, overwriting drive, zeroing the drive, overwriting free space etc etc will make it impossible to recover data with software

So, I followed the instructions and recovered my pictures but they are super tiny. The full resolution is gone. Is there a way to fix this?
anyway to recover only a certain directory? i dont need the whole drive as it says the size is 2048 GB but its only a 1TB drive and i only have like 100 gigs free on my recovery drive, i just need the files not the whole drive
