      Heads up! As someone who does marketing and thus purchases swag, those pins and stickers can't be more than a dollar and are likely pennies if they're being purchased at volume. The workbook can be printed for a couple dollars, possibly down to a dollar at volume. And all of the items you found online would be even lower cost to the company since they're buying at volume. There is no way the items in this box are worth more than $20 when push comes to shove.

Not only are all the items juvenile and cheap, and the price practically robbery, but what do you want to bet someone in that company was thinking, "They won't notice we're ripping them off; they have ADHD." It wasn't intended to provide any actual help with ADHD; it treated adults with ADHD as nothing more than children who need cute things to play with. I honestly think they could have just marketed it differently. Lots of people have their disabilities such as ADHD be a huge part of their identity and so a box or company that sells stuff to folks with ADHD is fine. It’s more so the problem that they’re claiming to help people with ADHD.
      If it was just like this box is something fun for folks with it and the community of people who have ADHD then that’s fine! Like fun shirts or treats that have puns or cute slogans on them or something!

    I don't know, this feels exploitative to me. Like, marketing a box to people who have a disorder and then filling it with penny junk from Temu, and charging $60 is kind of scummy. It's one thing to overcharge for junk (a la Trisha Paytas or whatever) to make a buck, but this being sold specifically to people with a medical/psychiatric disorder feels like preying on the vulnerable. I'm saying this as someone with ADHD among other issues, and a tendency to waste money on cute junk. It feels like being taken advantage of *specifically* targeting something that's a daily struggle.

    I personally wouldn't like this box at all - it's not helpful for my Adult ADHD, it's full of cheap junk, and I would be super disappointed to waste my money on this when I could buy my own activity books, scratch arts, etc for much cheaper. An ADHD box does not have to be garbage and considering that ADHD is among the most well documented comorbidities for hoarding disorder, this box seems shockingly out of touch and could be actively harmful.
    Send a book written by someone with ADHD, a nice fidget toy that is a favorite of that month's author or of an employee, unusual gum or lollipops as another fidget item but food, and a real, substantial activity designed by a psychologist or psychiatrist to train focus or alleviate ADHD related stressors. It could be something you send a few months of to people who have just been diagnosed as an opportunity to explore different coping styles and the first box you get could come with an extra ADHD quick guide written by the employees or by the psychologist or psychiatrist who writes the activities. (And yeah, I think at least the organizing staff ought to have ADHD so that they actually understand the population they're targeting. I doubt this box's organizers even sneezed in the direction of someone with ADHD.)
    Edited to clarify that I was referring to clinical hoarding disorder not hoarding as a behavior. In order to be diagnosed as hoarding disorder, the action cannot be explained by another medical condition (eg TBI, cerebrovascular disease) or mental disorder (eg depression, schizophrenic delusions).

      @NoYeahNah Před 11 měsíci +19

      To me this seems like the exact opposite of what someone with ADHD (or ADD) needs. This seems to actively overstimulate and encourage fragmented attention. As well as be discarded pretty quickly, and forgotten about.

      @@CutenerdywomanYou can find studies if you Google it. There are a lot of different causes for hoarding. In my case, there are four components that connect ADHD and hoarding:
      1) I get dopamine's highs from buying things and playing with the new things I have bought
      2) sorting through what I own to actually get rid of things requires organization and motivation. If I can't do important things that are fairly low effort like paying my bills... I'm never going to get around with organizing all the crap I own
      3) ADHD impacts how well you can regulate your emotions and how you make decisions. For example, those gel pens would be absolutely useless to me but I'd still get excited and end up keeping them anyway
      4) I constantly swap between hobbies and can get hyper focused. Also, when I start hobbies, I tend to dive deep so end up buying way more then I'll ever use. I then get bored very quickly and move on to something new. However, I never get rid of whatever I previously bought
      All of this results in me constantly acquiring items but rarely getting rid of them

    • @MarinaEariel
      @MarinaEariel Před 11 měsíci +14

      @@Cutenerdywomanboth ADHD and hoarding are related to executive function deficits. There are a few papers linking inattentive ADHD in childhood and youth with hoarding at a later age. Honestly I really do not think the majority of the population really does not fully understand ADHD... I am 55 yrs old and dealt with it since I was in grade one. (cartwheels down the isles as the students were trying to learn was a hint and yes I was tested both my brother and I have it, he takes medications I prefer not to so I don't ) The amount of times I hear glib little phrases and I cannot do this I have ADHD is so frustrating. My brother and I have an amazing Mother... when we were small she taught us how to organize and keep things straight so we did not easily get side tracked (as we know very easily done) we learned how manage our lives so she did not have to... To me as this box was a box of crap, playing into the popularity of one having ADHD so people would buy. Cancel this before you get charged for another.

    I was diagnosed with ADHD primarily impulsive recently and the medication helps along with therapy to develop methods to handle my impulsiveness better. I'm not your doctor, I don't want you to take medicine if you don't want to, but I would recommend looking into either extended release medicine or therapy to help you develop skills to manage your stress.
    ....and, yeah, that box was pretty useless.

    • @HadridarMatramen
      @HadridarMatramen Před 11 měsíci

      Or better yet; both! The meds are great (I take extended-release Aduvanz, and I am able to be a heck of a lot more productive and focused than I EVER used to be!) but they are not really meant to be used ALONE! They aren't a miracle cure, they're not going to help a whole lot if you don't get the help to tidy up your head and manage life.
      ....I had help, to a certain degree, for the first year after my diagnosis. It has now been one year more, and I feel completely and utterly *lost*. I have *meds*, sure - but I feel like I have ZERO support. And I can do all the research in the WORLD, and it ain't gonna help if I feel like I'm alone in trying to organize myself.
      ...POINT IS! Meds AND therapy is the bomb! Meds with no help at all? Yeah, well. I can now spend an entire day cleaning every crevasse of my flat and stay focused on THAT, but I can't do both that and ALSO remembering to eat... It's just a mess. And so is this comment. I should delete it. OH WELL. Sorry.

I know it's purpose isn't to replace medical advice or therapy etc. However, in my opinion, this box is profiting off of people who may be struggling or at the very least, trying to find some fun resources to help with organisation. I'd have taken a planner and some stickers over this 😭 AND for $60!? EXCUSE ME. We already have the added expenses that come with ADHD - 'ADHD tax' - such as food waste etc, and the sellers are wasting more of their subscribers' money. I'm honestly so upset by this.

    I have noticed “therapy” boxes are hella expensive for what you actually get. I don’t have adhd but I do have other mental health issues. What works for me is putting that money into stuff that makes me happy (usually makeup/fragrance) as I find doing my makeup to be meditative and my armour for when I leave my house. I’m also looking for other boxes that I can look forward to getting every month or every other month and make me happy (dopamine). For tips/tricks on dealing with my actual issues, I just buy the books/workbooks in my own. I agree with you that the box you just reviewed is not worth anywhere near what you paid for it. Even the prices on their website seem inflated to me so the $40 worth of their stuff really isn’t worth nearly what they are charging for it (eg. Professionally made pins would not be so off centre. I am sure I could find the components and make my own buttons and with the help of family and friends make enough for a subscription box.) But that’s just my opinion.

    As someone who has also just recently been diagnosed with ADHD it's very frustrating trying to get care for it.
    If you can get medication that's all good, but then it feels a lot like you just kind of left to deal with the situation on your own beyond that.
    Add onto it that A lot of companies have been built using the knowledge that doctors have about ADHD in a negative way. Items like this box, they are advertised to us and then take advantage of our impulsive tendencies as well as our desire to work on ourselves.
    It's become a very frustrating place for me as well. I understand your desire for this to have been a truly helpful tool and it sucks that it is just a flashy box of nothing.

      You’re really supposed to combine medication and therapy because the success rate of one or the other alone isn’t great. The best therapy modalities I’ve come across are IFS (understanding different parts of yourself and why you think or behave the way you do), ACT (acceptance, especially what you can’t change), and DBT (grounding, coping skills and structure). There are some good resources online for working with those on your own as well.

A sort of 'destroy this box' sort of deal. If it did and I got such a box, the contents would be tipped out for later inspection and I would curl up with the box in front of the telly and make it into cardboard confetti over a few hours! Bonus idea, if there were bits to rip off that revealed pictures - could be a challenge list printed on the box e.g... find 2 giraffe, find all of the purple vines. And 7 year old me was ecstatic because well it was not only cute and hello kitty but it was also free! I swear buying expensive things is a big turnoff for me. I like the tiny useless stuff. And then it ends up in a junk drawer for sure. Bought some resistance bands in hopes I'd do some kind of sports. Used them once or twice for show, got my legs hurting the next day and never used them since. I used to brag I have a gym elastic I got when I did dance practice for a very short while. I never use it. I keep buying makeup I already own (ie the 12 blush) despite I almost own all formulas and all kinds. Powder? Yes a ton! Gel? Two! Stick? Also two! Palette? Two aswell! I think I counted them and I for sure own more than 10 blushes by item. If we count the individual shades we may be close to 20. And I use only one currently. And some of them are half empty or they almost ran out. But I won't throw them as there's still some in there. Most of them were bought during sales or as excuse as one was almost done so I need a new one. But it's still laying there in my makeup bag unused.

    I'm 48, I am asking to be tested for ADHD this week. I identified with you and another creator so much and I think I now know why. I've been distracted 3 times writing this. I have many half done jobs, I go to get a drink and 2 hours later I've half done 5 jobs but not drank anything. I tried writing lists on my phone, I pick up my phone to write the task and get distracted with a notification, the list is still empty.
    I have a room I hide big jobs in. Imagine your subscription box cupboard times 10.
    Thanks you for making me realise I may not be just unorganised. ❤

      @lShishkaBerryl I always thought adhd was the kid running around the supermarket with the crying mum at the end of her tether. I never knew the traits my family joked was a me issue weren't a character flaw! Here hope to a more unorganised future!

    I absolutely agree with you on this one. This box screams dollar store grab bag. I don’t see the adhd for adult theme at allll. It’s more. Preteen oriented imo. Braclet and doodle books to play with in classes, todo board for chores and homework.
    This is definitely a seller looking to profit a lot off of these boxes, vs actually putting in the effort to find and put in good items to help people or make them feel good.

  • @liannangel2004
    @liannangel2004 Před 11 měsíci +5

    I liked the items in the box. HOWEVER! It is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! It should also not be labeled as an ADHD box. If it was just described as a fun box and was about $20 cheaper I'd say keep getting it. As it is, I'd unsubscribe. 🧡

    What I would put in an adult ADHD box: a fun shower kit with nice smelling things (full sized items or almost full sized) to encourage us to take care of ourselves, a novella from an indie author (customer gets to choose one of three genres), a colorful enamel pin, a 10 pack of silly stickers from a small business, a plushie keychain (so you can take your fuzzy friend with you), snacks (customer gets to choose sweet or savory), easy 1 pan recipes + a QR code if you’d rather watch a video than read a recipe, a book on a particular skill (organizing, cleaning, time management…) & a neon water bottle (eyes are more drawn to neon colors so you’re more likely to drink water if you remember it exists) + flavor packets (some people don’t like the taste of water & need to have flavoring or they won’t drink it). It’s a mix of fun stuff & useful items that can help navigate everyday life. I would put a $60 price tag on a box like that.

    Wow. This box just was not it. I’m honestly shocked too. People with ADHD aren’t “quirky” because they have it therefore would like the random stuff in this box. It’s weird! I would almost want my money back. Just a few things I do to help…. I paint and diamond paint and color in adult coloring books or reverse coloring books. It helps… a lot

  • @DestinyR7
    @DestinyR7 Před 11 měsíci +3

    Unpopular opinion maybe but I think this box is more meant to embrace your ADHD and neurodivergent self. Like, you don’t need fixing and we know you might like some of this stuff so here you go lol. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s overpriced for what you’re getting. I would’ve expected more fidget toys or perhaps things you could use to help organize your life like sticky notes, water bottle timer,. ADHD is a spectrum and everyone manages it in their own way. What works for you might not work for someone else. I would personally hate to receive a book, but that’s because I would never cracked the cover. I think you should skip the box and order the books and other things you might find helpful for yourself. My doctor had me meet with a psychologist who specialized in ADHD. He helped me understand what issues I was facing and gave me helpful obtainable tricks to help manage my ADHD. He had me check in once a month for about four months to make sure I was on the right path, understanding and managing life going forward. I think meeting with a specialist to manage symptoms could be helpful. ❤

    Even if there was a small short pocket sized activity book that you could take with you, that would be cool. But this just feels like a hodgepodge of stuff you’d find on a desk while you’re trying to focus.

    I've never heard of an ADHD box 😂. I've also been advised by friends to get diagnosed myself.
    Watching the video, what a disappointing box! It definitely seems like a cash grab for adults with adhd. That's very disappointing. You seem like you'd be able to create such a better box to improve living with adhd.

    As someone with ADHD, this box is honestly upsetting. It feels very much like "teehee ADHD is so fun and random!" instead of it being an actual medical disorder. It feels exploitative. It'd be a cute throwback box for like $15 or something, but at its current price it's such a waste

    I love your idea of a box of helpful workbooks, journals, tips about adhd.
    It would be so cool because there could be articles by so many guests that are educating others. Then just adding one or two speciality fidget toys.

    I apologise for taking a while to watch this one, I knew it was gonna trigger me. I only got diagnosed with ADHD recently in February at 30 years old. I hate all the ads I keep getting on Facebook, there’s so many cash grabs aimed towards us and it’s well known that we already struggle with over spending and hoarding too much tat 😅 I know you love your hot showers but honestly cold showers are the best natural way to boost your dopamine. Other than that I highly recommend medication. I’m only on a low dose of Concerta as I’m pregnant but it’s already been so life changing!

    Ok so as a veteran Neurodivergent ADHD-er at this point LOL, the little toy things actually do help. Through the practice of DBT & here snd now self grounding techniques, the small little toys to keep fingers occupied can distract you from completely changing the main task at hand by getting rid of some of the energy that builds up and also stress/nerves. If you practice the little finger distractions while doing your responsibilities over time they associate subconsciously and it will help you stay on task believe it or not and you can reduce the finger toys/energy release distraction overtime as well to help focus. Here and now is the method. It helps you ground yourself by association. DBT has most definitely helped me so I get what they were going for but they should have completely explained it. They have ADHD LOL but $60! No way. $10 tbh is the range I was thinking
