I'd say Frank Langella made him legitimately threatening. 02 is a perfect combination of the Saturday morning cartoon villain of Filmation cartoon and the more serious and melodramatic Langella villain.

Original Skeletor : Evil, but also funny, especially when he insults his subordinates 🤣
1987 Skeletor : Great performance of Frank Langella and a more, let's say dictatorial Skeletor with hubris and a fear of deep pits 🤣
1990 Skeletor : Total crap and waste
2002 Skeletor : Great resurrection (fun fact : In the German version his voice actor is also the one who dubs Cable and THANOS 💪)
