Thank you for promoting the art and putting yourself to the background so gently …. YT should be like this
He is the greatest living photographer as far as I am concerned
Well analyzed. Salgado's remarkable genius has created so many unforgettable images. There is no one quite like him. I appreciate your work on this.
In the last photo i love the single penguin facing the opposite direction to the others, bucking the trend and going his own way.
I was lucky enough to see the exhibition for full Genesis a few years back at the Natural History Museum in London. Then I got even luckier and met the him at a smaller exhibition at Somerset House. He is such a calm person with none of the arrogance that one might expect of such a highly regarded photographer. If you haven't seen his documentary (Salt of the Earth), I cannot recommend it enough.....
That must've been a wonderful experience, seeing the exhibition and then meeting him in person. A photographer is just a man with a camera: I don't know why he/she would be arrogant ... you're just a person holding a camera :)
And a rock star only holds a microphone, an actor wears only a disguise etc. I guess I've met too many arrogant people in my life that sometimes I've come to expect it!! Never meet your heroes and all that :)
He is from Minas Gerais. If you get a chance to get to know the state one day, do not miss it. The people (the vast majority) are calm, warm and smiling, like him.
Yes! I saw his exhibition in Rotterdam. Breathtaking.
You saw a visionary dedicated human, who has a master in economics from Sorbonne and still found another passion and equilibrium with his wife … I’m so glad for you
Fantastic I’ve only recently learned of him, your explanation of the photos and why they are so striking really explains what I saw in them, but couldn’t put into words thanks..
Glad you liked the video and my explanations. These are just words but the real star of the videos is Mr Salgado
Great video lesson Tom, enjoyed that! Its always good to review other people's work especially when they have images which have such strong composition and brilliant use of light and texture.
In every video from this series I try to add something worth watching :) thanks for the comment
Wonderful! Thank you!
Very good video, thank you!
Omg!! I have to do power point and a presentation about him for a english school progect... You've helped me a lot man, thk you so much!
Glad I could offer a starting point to something :)
Hi Toma, I enjoy these videos where you discuss the work of other artists as it is a very powerful teaching medium and stimulates thought processes for our own work. Thank you, D
Thank you for your time and feedback
Really enjoying these vlogs. I’m relatively new to photography so a number of these great photographers I have studied - this is a brilliant introduction to them for me. Thanks.
Thanks for the feedback and comment
I'm probably overreaching here but in the "Shouting Seal" photo I think the white bird just on the right side of the "weeping rock" isn't a coincidence. Maybe it is. Being a Brazilian I had the opportunity to see and briefly talk to him a few times back in the day and the guy is just a genius and such a nice, gentle person.
I like your reviews and analysis of other photographers. It is definitely helpful. Thanks for sharing.
thank you for the feedback
One of my favourite books (and most expensive) and he has an incredible life story too.
Thank you for your time
Genius.... Thankyou❤
Thank you Tom, for sharing your analasis about these great photographers that have been an inspiration for me, it is not easy to do it but I like the way you expose it. I do not know if these presentations have coincided, but they are my favorites: Peter Lik, Michael Kenna, Sebastian Salgado. Thanks for sharing. Take care. All the Best.
Thanks for your time and feedback :)
Great video and topic, Toma! I saw Genesis exhibition couple of years ago in Somerset House in London. Large prints at exquisite quality brings you in the world that Salgado have seen through his lens in a very convincing way. Nothing compares with a printed black and white photograph. An absolute visual and mental delight and experience.
Thanks Ionut :) I realize it must've been a wonderful experience to see that exhibition live :)
good job, thank you
thanks for your time
Hi, great video and thank you for this !
Can you tell which is the introduction song you used ? Shazam won't fin it ! :o
Thank you so much for your view of Salgado. I was prepared to dislike him as super-edgy hdr gives me a headache. But I really liked most of the images you presented. In particular we landscape photographers need to make more use of alternating bands of light and dark as compositional elements. In the sand dunes he seemed to be leading the eye with just direction, not just a line. Lots of things to try!
I choose images that I like. It's true that I don't like all of his images but the purpose of the video was to talk about what I learned in a positive way :) Thanks for the comment
I have the book and met Maestro Salgado during a show and book signing. Nice man, and so patient. I knew of his work for many years and always thought to be like him in the complexity of his subjects and tonality of the images.
I do disagree on a number of your critiques on the images, I think I would have not read into things as much as you did, but I won't get into it here.
No abstract patterns in nature??? of course there are.
abstract [adjective]:
existing in thought or as an idea but not having a physical or concrete existence
Why convey arrogance with such faux outrage when it's possible that you're in fact informing us all of your ignorance? Try to be more humble.
