@@zion7152 Interesting! How does he speak of Vaughn's earlier years back in school?
@@krissepu6153 how can you explain this idea? Because i cant catch it.I see a lot of songs talking about Rastafari and Haile Selassie, i can say inna 98%.... Rasta to the bone.
As a young Rastafari and musician, I observe, understand and agree with everything he said. Thanks for this interview 🙏🏼
Love your music king 👑 blessings from guinea west africa 🇬🇳🇯🇲

Few Rasta ina the music fraternity is holding the revolution energy. Most a falla the latest trend. And I agree Rasta ID become a costume to whole heap a artist.
Them soon come wit it because we a feel it now
Fi real example jahmeil... Big so called rasta gone baptize like water can change nuttin smh... Its all in the mind dem no ovastand. The movement r the God concept like garvey explain over a century ago

They destroyed conscious hip hop, also
This is exactly what they did with hiphop
Hip hop was an easier target because it didn't have solid grounding in a movement. The 5% nation of God's and Earth was the closest thing hip hop had and once that was removed, it was open season.
who is they?

The spirit of Rastafari HAS BEEN COMMERCIALIZED....
Dancehall should be renamed Downfall...!!! ⚡⚡⚡🔥🔥🔥
I dead with laugh.... Ah true
Personal I call it “dancefall” you heard it here first
I'm from the US, the first time I heard of and saw dancehall was the crazy freaky shite we usually see on the internet (like a pile of rabid dogs). I'm glad to know what it really was/is bcuz I love it

Rasta miss step is that they never build any institutions to speak of to pass the culture from generation to generation.
Respectfully InI disagree. Check pinnacle by Leonard Howell. Bobo camp, Nyahbigie camp, School of Vision pon the Blue mountains n Twelve tribes have dem seat bout the place as well. These govts do everything inna dem powers to disrupt the establishment and expansion of all these institutions (Big up Hile Selassie high) so we caah afford to forget that. Best thing is to sit and reason wid di elders though. Even though society beat them to the fringes of existence, them still there n them still strong. Is up to ones in this next generation to pick up that flame before it extinguish n I speak fi InI family when I say we slowly building until the day when all things come to pass

Rastafari needs to 1. move into futuristic mode once again and 2. Claim victory for things that we've championed over the years. It's not that the movement has lost its militancy, it's that many of the things the movement stood for has come to fruition. Cannabis has been decriminalized/legalized, Black people in the diaspora are more interested in Africa than ever before, more Black people are wearing their hair natural, more people are eating "ital" (vegan) , there are more Rastafari on the continent of Africa than anywhere in the world and some very militant.
💯
Oof true!!
yet we Africans are still serfs in the 21st century with money in our pockets. yet we still have a problem of identification, we have chosen to remain as dirty versions of whites. Africa still isn't free but somehow we preach change. what changed? We are unbeautifully subscribing to universal ideals and values that keep us in the same position of conquered people. Rastafari needs to go back to it's core and move towards the alternative world order of Africans championing the cause of liberation .
Um ..more black people are wearing there here where ??😂
Give thanks! RASTAFAR-I!
Excellent interview.
Burning Spear is more important than ever, now. I still listen to the old timers: Joseph Hill in Culture
Lolol burning spear took the Babylon vaccine he is done for
@@prophetchadrack3840 he will be ok. Maybe he did it to travel. I heard he wants to go back into the studio. I don’t know why Rasta sometimes run to Babylon. I was asking myself just today why Bob exiled in England and not Africa after the attempted assassination in Jamaica. I also question why Joseph Hill had to die in the seat of Babylon.

Woe to the roots reggae Rastafarian is home
Dis ras alone is the reason why I just subcribe.
Rastafari has never lost its revolutionary spirit and never will. The problem is you are confusing reggae artist with real Rastafari. Not saying that there is not real Rastafari in reggae music but they will take the back seat to fame and fortune because of their ideals-they will not take devil contracts. Go into any real Rastafari commune and will see the revolutionary spirit is a live and well. Now if you want to ask where is the revolutionary spirit in the new reggae artist that is the question I think you are asking. And that my friend is this - Reggae music has been watered down by the music industry - they only allow the watered down message to make it on the charts - the artist with the revolutionary message will be put to the back with no resources to push their message - while the heroin reggae artist will tour the nations - because it fits in with the NEW World Order agenda .
The Rastafarian community is inactive in Jamaica. I Don't need to say no more.
Unfortunately many think Rasta is knowing Bob Marley lyrics off by heart, smoking weed every day and wearing string vest smh. The problem is that Rastas never thought to gatekeep, understandably since love is one of the guiding principles of the faith, but by doing so these days any Tom Dick and Harry call themselves Rasta as a joke and many people in the west are dumbfounded when I reveal I'm Rasta but don't act like the walking caricatures they expect
@@zonebabrown1474 Bobo Shanti is inactive in Jamaica? I think not

Please inform me. What have they accomplished?
Word Breda Nuff said.
Real talk my elder, alot of Rastas have lost their way. Too much hype and ego. That's why Rasta movement water down.
I was just listening to your I a tell album yesterday it's still very relevant today I love your music keep up all the good works and May Jah continue to Guide and bless you more strength & Power
This is what colonizers do. Take our history our stories and water it down to its weakest form.
Tell them brada. Music should be to wake up our people that are asleep, and encourage those already aweaken. This is the music that never dies, it inspire the next generation to come. what changes is the way they oppress us, so they always give us something to sing about.they put on the presure, but we MUST STAND STRONG for our culture.
Sounds like the story of hip hop and dancehall are similar and used to defuse the youth.
Real ones deal with the livity and emitt that through the music!
The elder a speak the truth 🙌
Give thanks
as a teen my brother was really into Roots reggae and Dub... he made speakers and liked the heavy bass... I started to like it for the message etc... I used to listen to a show on WERS in Boston that played Roots and other reggae records ... this was 1991-1995 or so.... the show was cancelled and changed .... gentrified... next thing I know all the Roots and Dub was replaced by dancehall which I wasnt feeling...
Thank You Brothers for this Great Interview question that was over due.
I listen to Akae Beka..for the past 17yrs.
Same thing with hip hop and gangsta/drug/drill rap. Purposely pushing the lower vibrations because they know the power of frequency and sound.

When some Rastas say others are not Rasta (superiority complex) then thats the downfall...
Why are people saying the title has nothing to do with what he is saying. Then what is he saying? Do they know the meaning of revolution

A lot of reggae music from long time had NOTHING at all to do with Rasta. Things didn't shift solely because of Dancehall.

Not because the sun is temporary covered by the cloud does not mean the sun has disappeared. Everything has its time. But the sun will appear again.
Quite insightful.
Peter TOSH you should mention
Yes. Thanks my brother talk up the things as a dancehall woman in the seventies I am telling people Dancehall the name Dancehall what's a cassette us we'll go to the dance with a tape cassette and we taped the sounds what's playing that night in the morning are in the daytime we are playing over that Cassatt and someone who said give me that Cassatt this is dancehall Style that's with that name come about so because they want to attack the movements they make sure their blackmail the movement and call it dancehall that's when we stopped conscious music anymore
Coming out of the Black Power movement of the 1960s into the anti-colonial 1970s, reggae provided a soundtrack for something more tangible. After that period the music became more vague and explored other topics.
Half the world would not know about Rastafarians if it was not for reggae music for the fact that reggae music real Roots reggae is not played on the radio in America lets you know that it is a revolution revolutions do not stop
Real talk iyah
Yes, I respect my Rastafarian Brothers and Sisters and I give you four clear reasons.
One, they said that God was Black when no one would believe them.
Two, they kept alive the life and deeds of Marcus Garvey when it was not popular to do so.
Three, they refused to allow their standard of beauty to be defined by Europeans.
And, four, they never lost their vision of repatriation to Africa. Rastafari!!!
Runoko Rashidi
The AFRIKAN BLOOD LOVE we have for each other is the greatest threat to those who rule over us. If those who rule over us want to stay in POWER, then they must DESTROY our ability to LOVE EACH OTHER in a healthy sort of way. -
GRATITUDE.......
True reasoning, a lot of Reggae artist used rasta/locks as a facade to advance their careers. They were only fronting because their hearts weren't into the spirituality of Rastafarian ideals.
100% true. Some artist never got the recognition until them turn Rasta. So are they true Rasta or just using Rasta as a way in the business.... 🤔
🙏🏾😊 BLESS UP ( ELDER ) BLESS UP 😊🙏🏾
If you think rasta has lost it's revolutionary spirit then you've no idea the power of Jah. Rasta never lost its revolutionary spirit. Men have left the teachings of Jesus and H.I.M. Facts.
That's like asking Bob Marley about the so called "fruits of babylon".
So much truth.
I agree but I only care about the African references that come out the mouths of some of these musicians. Vaughn Benjamin is very relevant in this sphere. He will have you researching for days and enjoying the sweetness. I would've loved to see what his library was like. I would appreciate seeing a lot of these African "speakers" libraries. Don't mind me I just love books. Roots and Jazz are just to chill with.
Real warrior!
Thats why Midnite/AkaeBeka/Vaughn Benjamin was a true prophet. Kept the spirit in the message Raw! We are all carbon beings! Xy chromosome around the globe.
He is
And I think Bob Marley help with the custom too

I would love to reason with this man

this is really deep. its sad tho - Rastafari is def still in the spirit tho

Some good points but it's still all talk and black men are very good at talking.
Now rasta's a trend. Everybody appropriating it. They ruined it forever.
Use the weapon to free the people not kill them...
Facts...”kill we wit music” taken out of context ie literally smh
The spirit is alive!!! It's what angle you approaching the debate from?? Nothing new you teaching us!! We have Benjamin Vaughan etc etc!! You don't back Rastafari
In the Caribbean, the enemies of Black people saw Rastafari as a major threat, it echoed the Revolutionary spirit that was going on in America and Africa, so. Its essence had to be taking control of by babylon, but it is up to Black people to take back that essence
There are still a lot of revolutionary songs coming out to this day, he's just not finding the artists, you have to research
True
The same is true of HipHop music. You have to rummage through the trash, rummage through the rubble to find the gems.
🔥
Facts reggae music was and is a two edged/ hot n cold sword to Rastafari movement and culture...the commercializing of a culture to one’s outside the culture by one’s Of & not of the culture is the folly. Good luck changing the game...Weh gone bad from morning....conscious separation is needed now like before to set the record straight before it too late. Rastafari bigger than reggae and entertainment, much much bigger, the struggle continues...rent a dreads & overly worldly & carnal dreads mimicking Rastafari culture In reggae need fi stop. I n I must rally and work to protect I n I God head name, identity, and purpose from Jackals🦊🐺🐗🐍🐀etc black and/or white etc

Yahushua is the creator of both the spiritual an physical realms, Yahushua is the parents of all the races, any religion or any movement that does not believe that is in critical trouble,an will be watered down, Yahushua is love, one love
Bob Marley, and Third World started the watering-down of Reggae, Peter Tosh, and Joseph Hill was the Real Deal!!! ☀️
Not even Bob Marley put reggae on the map he was the real deal too
Rastafari has now become a fashion.99% if not 99.99% of reggae musicians are fake Rastas
The Bible says the musicians and players of instruments ALL my springs are in thee, the emergence of murder music is to counter the positive influence. We have to be wise.
