Bushcraft Trip in Untouched Wilderness - Thunder and Rain - Tarp Shelter

  • Out for two days with my Canoe. Bushcraft trip started out pretty badly and my first thought was hell with this I'm going home. My third time in a canoe and got the paddling down but I guess you are a rookie.. until you are not lol. But made for some spectacular photo so I just pushed on. Nothing like a warm fire as morale booster. This was an outing, like only a handful of others on the channel, where I didn't plan anything. Just went out there, didn't even know which direction to paddle. Found some really nice spots where I could not see any signs of humans being there. So was stoked in the end because I got some really really nice views in the camera. I just love thunder and rain. Magic. Guitar riff played by me. Thanks for watching!!

      Lets face it, we who are into bushcraft and survival, if we are only smoothing it playing it safe each time its hard to move on. To evolve. Its been a long time since anything at all happened to me that was not according to plan, and I was surprised suddenly being in +4C water. I can honestly say my first though was to get my bag and head for the nearby car, but then I thought about why we do everything we do... even if I'm not mainly into survival I'm also used to work my way around problems. Thats when interesting stuff usually happen so I decided to push on even if I lost half a day drying things up. But it was a great trip in the end with views, sounds, smells etc I wouldn't want to miss. Thanks for watching Lonnie!

    Worrying about a stray bullet, while naked, cold and wet is something I’ve never worried about while kayaking, and camping. Quite an achievement! The guitar riff was really well placed, and bringing the right kitchen knife? Complete win.
    One of my favorite childhood memories is sleeping under a flipped canoe. It’s pretty waterproof. 😂

    oh lordy Swedwoods I honestly hope it did not take too long to get warmed up & clothes dry & 'no stray bullets whizzing about ya self', sometimes it takes a error or two to remind us that now & again not always easy to concentrate ALL THE BLOODY TIME cos yep we are human for real, an imperfect species & that's just how it should be. It does look like a foreboding day to be out on the water - but somewhere there will be that inner glow about yourself sooner rather than later. Cook up one of those awesome meals you do & all will be lovely Safe travels -

He filmed himself walking away from the camera in northern Canada during the winter. It was beautiful. He was a 1/4 mile away when he said "....great shot, but I have to go back and get the camera"! That is what I was thinking as you paddled away. Lol. Great video

    Thanks, that was just what I needed to watch. Watching you chiffonade that parsley, now I know what your day job is. ☺ It looks like your prow is riding a little high, if the wind catches it you will go over again. Try to balance your load (including your weight) in the middle of the boat. I recommend a book called The Complete Wilderness Paddler by Davidson and Rugge, my father bought me a copy back in the 70s and I still have it. Great book.

      @Swedwoods  Před 4 lety +3

    That's the tastiest looking thing I've ever seen in a snuskburk. I had forgot about the rings in the lid handle. It did have some rather clever features that I was totally unappreciative of at the time.
    An explanation for those that didn't serve in the Swedish army - the oval cooking pot is a part of the individual cooking kit used by Swedish soldiers and was generally called "snuskburk" which could be translated as disgusting can. That name came from the fact that sometimes soldiers didn't clean the pot after use and came back a few days later to find a disgusting mess.

    Wow, that was a close call! Hypothermia is a real danger. Here's a tip: keep some cotton wool and/or some dryer lint in an airtight ziplock bag. It's wonderful to start a fire because it will catch fire with the slightest spark and it holds its flame long enough for the rest to catch fire. You really don't need much and it really is handy in cases like these when you need to get the fire going fast.

    Had missed this one somehow. Amazing recovery at the beginning. Hard to patiently get the fire going. Very well done. Have fallen from the boat myself, but In far warmer weather.

    A quick dunk in the lake and cold wet balls, it happens and getting warm urgently is paramount. You sir, are awesome.
