I just wanted to comment to anyone watching this, I'm sorry about the camera movement in places. It was a relatively long zoom without a tripod, and some people in front of me were moving around just enough to get in frame on occasion. It is still one of my favorite videos though. The Leahy kids are adorable, and (not surprisingly) very talented. On another note, if anyone watching this can get to Milwaukee in Mid-August, we have one of the best Irish festivals you will ever see. Consider this an open invitation! :)
HI thanks for such entertaining family ,I think i am related to the Leahy's family our family came to Australia in the early 1900 & some went to USA /Canada Very Interesting Irving rofe
Just amazing music. Why not have a regular tv program. Just like Don Messer and his islanders. A lot of people are not old enough to remember Don Messer. Every Wednesday night from CFCY in Charlottetown. This family is true Canadians. Keep up the good work.
Well thanks for this, and don't worry about the camera movement. I was glued the whole time. This is the best stuff ever. Wish I could have been adopted to that family. What great entertainment!
You are welcome! When I first heard that Natalie and Donnell married, I kind of figured we would get some great musicians in a few years. Glad to see I was right!
You are welcome, and thank *you*! I took a look at your channel and was pleasantly surprised to see Celtic music being played in Bali! You have some talented people around you.
When I was first learning four years ago I would learn what Natalie's youngest children were playing, I still haven't caught up haha. Just a joy to listen to.
Hang in there! Both my kids play violin (more classical than fiddle), and I can tell you that progress is not linear. I have seen them "plateau" for a while, then make huge improvements in a short period of time. The most important thing is that you enjoy doing it.
One of the most important points for learning trad music, according to Joanie Madden/Siobhan Peoples/Altman etc., is to never stop listening to it. If you can sing or hum a tune, it's in your memory and you can play it eventually. In jazz it's "scattering" and in Irish/Scottish music it's called lilting! Being able to "sing" tunes will help get the accurate rhythms and show you different options of improvisation: so always be listening to the music!
That *would* be incredible. I guess a decent consolation prize would be going to the Red Shoe Pub in Mabou, Cape Breton. That place is run by the Rankin Family, and has been known to have an occasional bit of playing/dancing too. :)
The tune is “The Boxing Reel” by contemporary composer, Jeremy Kittel (starts @ 2:13mins): czcams.com/video/hFII8qlU-eM/video.html, though I do hear the potential influence of King George IV
I'm much obliged to you all for the detailed information - just actually reading all of your replies now! I should have specified the question: I was curious about the time that Natalie and Donell's oldest *daughter* was playing, starting at 5:16. (The King George reel was played immediately before it.)
You are in luck! This one was answered in comments further down. It is called The Boxing Reel by Jeremy Kittle. Much thanks to @Olyfiddle.com for identifying it below.
I know, right! It seems like that for violin/fiddle most lefties are "forced" to learn to play right-handed. The only exception I know of is Ashley MacIsaac, who grew up just up the road from Natalie.
Such a crying shame that this great musical family are not taking there music around the world. Playing in the usual places is fine BUT THEY ARE LITTLE KNOWN in Europe which is a travesty when you have this great talent.
My guess is that it would be tough to do world-wide touring with a large family that is so young. They *do* tour the Irish festivals throughout much of Canada and the US, but I'm guessing most of those trips can be done for a week or 2 at a time. I agree that they deserve more recognition outside North America. Hopefully as the kids get older, they will be able to travel more.

Is there room at your place??
You're absolutely right about Irish Fest!

I didn't think about this until I saw your comment... I wonder what lockdown is like with a family of 7 kids!?
I am crying with tears of joy.
Outstanding. What a talented family. Donnell is my second cousin, on our mothers' side (MacDonnell). This music will always warm my Cape Breton heart.
I am constantly thrilled by Natalie Mc Macmaster And Donnelley ‘s children
MacMaster meets Leahy equals awesome!

My God, the aerobic capacity of those dancers!!

@@scottman68 That is great advice!
I do love it.

Wow!
What a show!
Great performance! Children are wonderful~ Husband quite a good fiddle player.
Understatement. He's just noodling here. He and Natalie are both world-class, and the kids are on their way. What a family!
Love this beautiful family. I hope they come to Australia one day 🌻
I'm guessing that would be a bit of a distance to travel with such a large (and young) family... but you never know!
scottman68 Yes along way. However I want this family to know we love them here too🌺
Their older son play ‘King George IV’ strathspey, and ‘Old Kings reel’ followed by ‘Road to Errogie’ is very good!! As they all are!
Having played in St Peters, Lowerl’Latdoise,
Sampsonville, Grand Greve,Harare Bouchet. I constantly thrilled by this family. Cy
Lower L’Ardoise is spelled as such, Harve Boucher is seplled as aforementioned
GREAT MUSIC
Friggin “AWESOME “
De
Seven beautiful children. Talented beyond belief!
Seven? I only see 5 kids on this vid. Is there more?
@@shirleymeeker9905 They do have two younger ones as well. I'm guessing they will also perform in good time :)
Awesome
the benefits of practice... would love to know the list of tunes??
I have it here somewhere
It's The Apocalypse.
Hey lady! People behind you can’t see!
👍🏻⭐️🧡💕
What a good music! I wanna find the name of the reel at 8:42, does anyone know it?
My dream? Goin' to a caileigh at their house....I'll even bring tourtierres.
That *would* be incredible. I guess a decent consolation prize would be going to the Red Shoe Pub in Mabou, Cape Breton. That place is run by the Rankin Family, and has been known to have an occasional bit of playing/dancing too. :)
I believe...”Nxt Generation Leahys” are cousins of these ones. All live near same area, Eastern Ontario Canada.
You are correct. They are Doug Leahy's kids.
Do they live near Truro now?
What solo tune is Donnell and Natalie's oldest playing? Brilliant.
I'm pretty sure that is The Call to Dance. Donnell and his siblings recorded that one about 20 years ago: czcams.com/video/rqg0l43dbv4/video.html
It's acually called "King George The IV" Here's a video of Natalie and Buddy MacMaster playing it: czcams.com/video/jbY-LpV3K-k/video.html
The tune is “The Boxing Reel” by contemporary composer, Jeremy Kittel (starts @ 2:13mins): czcams.com/video/hFII8qlU-eM/video.html, though I do hear the potential influence of King George IV

Scottman68 Call to the Dance is one of my favorite tunes, but OlyFiddler is right, this is definitely from the Boxing Reel set by Jeremy Kittle.
Damnit i wish i was irish
When you step onto the Irishfest grounds in Milwaukee, you instantly become Irish for the duration of your time there :)
Does any one know the name of the song at 5:18 ?
You are in luck! This one was answered in comments further down. It is called The Boxing Reel by Jeremy Kittle. Much thanks to @Olyfiddle.com for identifying it below.
God help ya if you’re born left handed in that family! My sister went with the cello!
I know, right! It seems like that for violin/fiddle most lefties are "forced" to learn to play right-handed. The only exception I know of is Ashley MacIsaac, who grew up just up the road from Natalie.
Don't expect any pity from me: there will be None at all in a point in time...
Obviously, you haven't met someone as Revengeful as Moi. Pity

scottman68 Your certainly right there mate but it is a great loss to the wider world of music.
It doesn't exist here.
The Mcmaster children didnt have a choice ...either play fiddle or else....
