- Hot, arid, and isolated, this coast along Oahu’s most western shore was also home to Ka uluniu o Poka’i, a huge grove of coconuts that once lined Poka’i Bay, and extensive systems of terraces along its various streams of clear, fresh water. Now, peppered with numerous housing developments and neighborhoods, this coast still holds its quiet charm. It’s also haunted by ‘uhane and also menehune. In this episode of Hawaii’s Most Haunted, we’ll hear a story about Menehune in Waianae.

In this series, Lopaka brings you some of Hawaii's Most Haunted places.
Master storyteller, Lopaka Kapanui, brings to life the feared Night Marchers, the goddess Pele, Menehune, e‘epa, mo‘o and more. But… Hawaiian deities and spirits aren’t the only things residing in this island paradise. Here is also where the Japanese dog demons, the inugami, are sent to ruin the lives of unsuspecting families. Here is where the Filipino vampire-like creature, the aswang, roams in search of her next victim. And here is where the Portuguese witch, the feiteceira, spins her spells and curses at her whim. Rich in culture and traditions, these islands are overflowing with stories of ghosts and hauntings, creatures and curses. Lopaka is the keeper of these stories.
Beyond the cool, blue waters and balmy trade winds of our idealistic paradise is the thin veil which separates our world from the place where shadows talk back. Spirits, Ghosts, Legends, Facts... Experience the Hawaii most don't see every day.

First! Getting ready for Halloween 🎃
This is awesome! I'm a Hawaiian that was born on the islands but raised in CT so I've only heard a few of the old legends. This is awesome to be able to hear them on this channel!
Aloha from Maui ❤
in Tahiti before the Europeans arrived we had a rigid cast system, at the very bottom were the Manahune who were the common folk. Manahune were not people of small physical stature but were instead people of small social status. In the end, you have to wonder what is the link between Manahune and Menehune.
There are many theories regarding the Menehune. One theory says that the Menehune were already inhabiting the Hawaiian Islands when the Tahitians came and began oppressing them, calling them "Manahune," beneath them. Another says that the menehune and the manahune were the same people.
This story seems very real because children are very innocent and what they say can be very true.
Aloha from Atlanta. Great story.
Great stories unko especially this one because i live in makaha i would love to know where this house is located 😊
The Menehune are a distant branch of Homo Floresiensis, a Dwarf Hominid recently discovered on the Island of Flores in 🇮🇩.
Have you heard about the Menehunes of Waimea River on Kauai? We were told to be respectful in the area to be safe.
I didn't see a menehune but there but down in Kaupo there is a little spot where there were some tiny bushes that looked like they were very well groomed by tiny people. Also i think they left something underneath me as i was sleeping because i know there was nothing there when i went to sleep that night.
