Great content. I just did a random candling of 15 of my 60 quail eggs at day 10 as I just got candle light and scissors and found 3 out of 15 that were not fertile and used my scissors to confirm my 3 finds. Yep, validated. I’ll feed to chickens now. Thank you again! Lockdown in 4 days so I’ll candle them all. I just wanted to do a quick check.

You were holding them upside down. The pointy end needs to be down so the air bubble is on top.
Hello! Out of my 21 eggs only 2 weren't fertilized/viable. But I only found air sacs on 2. We've been struggling with a very low hatch rate. Not sure what's going on. Dose it need to have an visible air sac to be viable?
I'm on day 20 still no babies I did a quick candle of them and there's a baby and a air sack l. When should I start to worry?

I know you stated the quail eggs are hard to candle. I disagree with that because I never had any problems with quail eggs. Guinea eggs their shells are so thick to me they are the hardest to candle. sometimes I get lucky with the guineas and I'm able to candle but not very often.
How do you tell if it's alive?
You will see a blood spot. Sometimes it even moves. Quail eggs are the hardest to candle and sometimes you just have to wait until they hatch.
