Excellent video, with a ton of useful data as well. Thing is, I studied TATA before starting my business with my dad, after injury forced me to quit my high-paying job. Anyway, what we found out is the crux of this video. Branding, trust and diversification are things that kept popping up.
So we started with a small Chanachur (& related snacks) factory, and after a couple of years, started making papads, chips etc. Next up, we're looking to go into spices since we already make out own spices for our chanachur products.
I'll get to the point: I've observed that once our brand was established in our market (A northern part of a Metro) as a premium quality chanachur and snacks brand, it was easier to sell papad under the same brand since people trusted us. Not just distributors but also shopkeepers and the end consumers. We're now in the process of expanding to other parts of the city and eventually state, then nation but Brand recall and trust are key factors in our endeavor.

@@roylce8355 yes. We started initially by going shop to shop in our locality and selling our product there. Once we gained a foothold we expanded to other markets in our city, and slowly approached distributors.

India was actually a Socialist country which now is shifting to Capitalist economy. So, the line you said - People spend a lot on living rooms than Bedrooms is something seen in such countries like Russia, China etc.
India currently is a hybrid economy but soon will become a pro capitalist country I believe!

    • @varunemani
      @varunemani Před rokem +4

As an NRI i agree with your thought, But again think why only few Brands are ruling here in Indian market. But in US the markets are based on free trade and almost anyone can launch their own brand dispite their background. It is a very limited mindset we have in India like our aging hero's and politicians Indian and asian people in general only trust and support the old and outdated!
Capitalism is a good way of attracting foreing money and growing innovation and you also have extreme unbelievable destablising events like the 'Capital hill incident!' which could only happen in the US where people become arrogant due to too much money and freedom and will say 'they know their rights' and 'this is a free country i can do what ever i want'. Government will bend too much for which ever demographic they want to favor for the next election!
In Indian and other asian cultures Pro Capitalism can only be implemented if there are more rich people who know their rights and everyone is bold to voice their opinions. And the government show respect to everyone not stealing from even social welfare funds for the poor! Here the mindset is Citizens are school students and they have no rights unless they are in powerful positions (same as russia and china) but US treat everyone equal and support inovation from any section of society. We are very different as a society from them.

I partially agree with you. All the legacy (old) brands had the same reputation to open multiple businesses (verticals) under the same brand name. (Tata, Birla, BPL, Videocon, reliance etc) Tata is one of the very few surviving brands which has legacy and trust.
Even in the USA it is the same.
You can say the same with Apple in the USA.
Whereas when it comes to building Apps we need brands which focus on one thing.
That is the reason TATA is successful but 'TATA neu' app failed.
When it comes to offline/online sales majority of us want to have the human touch/feel it physically. Once we have the human touch we may buy it either online or offline based on convenience and discounts.

This begs the question who really defines the business dynamics of trust. The consumer by signalling for status or the company who will build the product that's status worthy.
Do companies eventually map to consumer wants. Sounds like status is governing both the sides of the coin.
Now i would love to see a movie on how status got defined by each side's mind.
Was it just repetitive of the flashy kids being flashy. Or can we define status on our own terms.

Being an India and living my entire life in the country, I still don't know how Kunal came up with that logic. May be rich people might do it, not middle class, really 20 times annual income on wedding. When my sister got married it was the suitcase seller who gave my dad that logic "Jethani ko out compete krna hai toh mehenga suitcase lo", I was like "Seriously!!, my sister will be a good daughter-in-law not by keeping her husband happy, but by a suitcase." Same was done by the jewelry, cosmetic shops as well. These shop owner would convince with such conviction that any girl would start to have a negative pressumption of their inlaws from the get go itself.

I think people will understand how and why people trust Tata
I think the mindset of Indian entrepreneurs is limited they just want their business to run enough so they can earn enough for themselves, don't understand why people call themselves entrepreneurs, While the first meaning of that word is building something that helps people and person whose no.1 priority is people
Secondly, AI would never take away jobs they'll just create a more skillful engineers and skilled labour
