    My man! You saved me an expensive service call. I was able to order an OEM carriage on Amazon with next day shipping for $25. Took me 15 minutes to replace the old one and properly lube the screw. Thank you! Probably saved me thousands because I was thinking maybe it's time for completely replace my 25 year old door and opener.

My door just slammed shut and thought for sure it was done. I took a chance with the replacement part and your video was right on. Although my hands got a bit greasier than yours during the repair. But it was the best greasy job I ever did. Thank You again.

    Awesome video. 1 Thing I would do is lower the opener closer to the door. The reason I say this, is because it's mounted up to high, so instead of pushing the door closed, its pushing the top panel down, causing that bend/flexing of the top panel you see as it's closing. This will also cause premature wear on the trolley you just replaced.

      If that doesn’t do the trick I am out of ideas, outside of fixing this issue I have limited experience. I would also make sure the “screw drive” is actually turning. Which could indicate the gears turning the screw are grinding (if it isn’t turning). Springs could also be too tight to let it move? Those are just some ideas based on my limited knowledge. Hope you figure it out!

    • @jeffthornton7643
      @jeffthornton7643 Před rokem

      Check your door springs. If one is broken or they are not correctly tensioned, the door may be too heavy for the motor to lift and the carriage may slip. I had that problem, and had to have the springs re-tensioned just 5 years after a new door was installed using the old opener. The door should be supported by the springs enough so that it can be lifted with reasonable effort while the opener is disengaged.

      @@WeekendWoodsmen Here is my review on Amazon which details my experience. (do not work for Genie)
      Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2019
      Item Package Quantity: 1Verified Purchase
      Final Update: 5/2021
      Yes, my garage door is heavy. It is a steel hurricane rated door for the stormy life here in Florida. It is not unreasonably balanced, it will stay in most positions of travel. So either these parts are knock-offs or the design is bad (not to mention unsafe) So Genie company either needs to get a handle on the people selling these counterfeit parts or come up with a replacement part that will not fail. Others will be doing the same thing I have just done. I just ordered another opener from another brand. Bye Bye Genie.
      2nd update:
      The replacement for the replacement lasted just a few months before it failed. The same failure mode, the thin plastic guide sheered off.
      Update:
      The replacement lasted just a 6 months before the thin plastic blade of the track guide snapped off (a different failure mode) detaching from the track, and allowing my door to slam down. Luckily, no injuries. Since I have an old car blocking access making replacement of the entire unit difficult, I am ordering a couple more replacements to hold me over, and lubing the screw, but I am also beginning the process of looking for a new brand opener, likely one with a chain. This part is not made strong enough and I have lost faith in Genie.
      Update:
      It lasted exactly 2 years before requiring replacement. The teeth get worn down and it starts slipping.
      Ordered another one and replaced it.
      I plan to order a third one for next time, but once i get it will experiment with adding some chain lube on the screw drive to reduce the abrasion from dust/grime etc.
      ======================================================================================
      Do not call a garage door tech if your door is not working and you can hear the carriage grinding and slipping along the track. The inside of this device has a metal screw track that can wear out over time and start slipping. It is very easy to replace, as the old one will slide off of the end of your track and the new one slides back on. The connections are by cotter pin which are easily removed by hand. The only thing you have to do is unbolt the track from the wall just above the door and swing it aside so you can slide the carriages on and off. It is a 10 minute operation max. You will probably get grease on your hands, so be prepared with paper towels and automotive hand cleaner.
