Secret Gun Compartment Dresser

- This pallet wood dresser has a secret gun compartment that is unlocked by pressing in one of the slats on the side of the dresser. The locking mechanism is shown at 10:15. If I was going to do this again, I would avoid the rebar (only thing I had at the moment) and use a smooth metal rod and bearings to make everything a little smoother. The spring loaded dowels were installed so the top doesn't need to be pulled up when it is being unlocked.
I like the locking mechanism. Everybody is so used to the magnetic locks right now. I can't imagine having to stumble around for a magnet and line it up perfectly with another magnet to unlock your guns. With this you just press a board in and get your guns. This is outstanding work!
Exactly, innovation as its finest here. Keeping it KISS.
Thanks a lot man! I have a new improved version coming soon!
Had to look up that abbreviation. Great saying lol!
Me: Watches for 12 straight minutes..."Yeah, I'll just keep them under the mattress and hope for the best..."
🤣🤣
You know something is good when the worksmanship and craftsmanship shines through the materials. Very well done, and gorgeous bedroom set
Wow, that's amazing. He did all that in 22 minutes. It would take me way longer!
Haha Thanks!

@@andypazin what?
What program were you using at the beginning of the video? Thanks
builds secret compartment dresser, happens to also have a woodshop in his attic that nobody probably knows about
It looks like it is his attic
LOL secret everything
@@roughcutcreations3756 Any chance I could purchase the plans for this project?
How does he get that thing out of the attic?
LOL just one spark away from needing a new roof. 😂
Well done on the build and the upcycling of materials. You would never suspect that a dresser would have so much Freedom in it!
A lot of people are commenting about how you wouldn’t be able to keep anything on top.
Yes, you could and should keep things on top. Just not anything particularly heavy or expensive. If you are in a situation where you need the gun, you could knock everything off the top and open it in a hurry.
There you go!
Velcro does wonders
That might not be an option if you're trying to get the drop on an intruder and you need to get your gun quietly. I say put stuff on top but super glue everything down. 😄
And stuff on top will disguise it more. You already can't tell what it is put some random stuff on top and a cop with search warrent and would walk past it.
@@roughcutcreations3756 do you build them to sell i would like to buy 1 if you do.
Ingenious construction...if you fastened a few dummy items...alarm clock...stack of books screwed from inside the lid etc... So they rose with the lid...might act as camouflage.
Great work!!
I like you thinking! Thanks a lot!
If you're not an engineer, you probably should have been. I'm certain that you could sell as many as you can build of these.
Thanks a lot!!! I am not but always been interested.
Agreed, if you lived close I would buy and come pick it up.....shipping would be ridiculous!
Moose81 yup because it's quality, therefore heavy
As custom item this is perfect, but mass produce it and everyone knows what it is and how to open it. Same thing with those gun shelfs. If you want one to stay secret, make your own with a twist, or completely make another thing entirely. Same locking mechanism apply there too
Dude, it's a box with a hidden compartment. Jesus people are impressed by nothing.
One of the most badass build videos I've seen, and I've watched a lot lol so awesome! Love the design!
Thanks a lot man!
Next great idea you have get some one else to film it . And maybe 2 videos on regular speed . My eyes hurt from trying to watch it.
i did this exact same project with a store bought dresser, just removed all the staples and screws and hinged the back. as long as you are just standing while looking into top drawers u r unlikely to realize its there cuz it does impede space into top drawers about 1 inch.
Thats awesome. Love the hidden in plain sight stuff.
I was looking for a weekend project....something to build that could hide a handgun and a shotgun, right out in plain sight. This, although frigg'in AWESOME....ain't gonna happen in a weekend. Absolutely LOVE the idea and final result! Amazing little compact shop also.
would love to see the real time build of this with a voice over of the steps taken and your thoughts during the process. This is beautiful.
Agreed, or at least a cut list or plans available in the description.
Wow, very impressive. You are a true CRAFTSMAN!!!I Wish you made more and sold them; I'd buy one yesterday! Great job.
Attention house burglars!!! If you see a chest of drawers with no items on top..... lol, really great job! I love the latching mechanism!
Haha seriously. Looks a little out of the ordinary. Thanks a lot!
Mount some item to the top so it doesn't look out of place
mount a hollow book or two to the top you can then store various small items inside and they are attached so they dont fall off when you open the lid ;)
You could also use a set of gas struts to hold it open at a certain height so the objects mounted to the top don't hit against the wall behind.
Glue items ontop ....Just a idea
This is incredible, like watching a mad scientist at work. The craftsmanship is off the charts.
The design and build are both awesome, with a few really nice quality of life additions, such as the springs to allow your to press the panel without having to lift the top of the dresser at the same time. That being said, I'd love to see these in a 2 or 3 part format, so everyone can see a bit more of what you're doing with extra time to process it. Also, although I personally don't like the pallet wood build, as it looks.. well.. trashy, I think it looks pretty decent alongside your other pallet builds
I've cut up hundred's of pallet's and sold them to my friend's for burning in there fire pit's , But I do keep a lot of the nice ones. Now I no what to do with the ones I kept. Thank you for sharing your talent they are very Beautiful.
Thank you! They make a great rustic look for free!
I like the secret compartment!
Please buy a push stick for your table saw buddy!
🤐
Hah I'll get better one day. I feel like I loose some control with a push stick and ends up feeling more dangerous but I am obviously not a safety expert. Thank you!
Haha
If he can make that he can whip up a decent push stick I think. Lol.
Thanks mommy
I thought i was the only one alive who watches PUBG while woodworking. What a badass dresser though. Keep videos like this coming!
HAHA so did I. Thanks a lot man!
I have to say I really enjoyed this video, I rarely comment on anything these days. I finally started to put my shop together to build stuff like what you are doing. Keep up the amazing work, I'll be watching your videos. Subscribed to your channel my brother.
Thanks a lot man. That's awesome, let me know how it goes
Just nothing but pure American Badassery!! Great job!
Haha amen! Thanks!
You are better then a Jedi master a true work of art
HAH Thanks man!
i like it. keeps your guns quickly ready for you in case of an emergency while keeping it away from children and probably better protected from theft while youre away than a regular safe would. safes say "come on thief break into me i got some guns inside for you" while this dresser says "i store clothes, maybe some money in one of these drawers if youre lucky"
Hahahaha thanks!!
Need to start building these and staining them and selling them. I’d buy one
I will buy one if you ever sell.
I would buy one 2
Thanks! I have been working for a while on a new and greatly improved version of this dresser, website, and a new video showing it off. I may do a hardware kit & plans shortly after. It should be up sometime within 2 months with links to the website with contact info and pricing.
I'd buy one AND I'd even pick up! Hey, I need my crab cake fix!! Lol
@@roughcutcreations3756 let me know whe it's ready.
YOU SIR ARE A HERO! 1ST CLASS HERO!!! WHAT A JOB, THIS IS ULTIMATE NEXT LEVEL DIY
Cool video - you can cut way down on time and increase watchability by showing less of a step. For example, on your finger joints, you don't need to show all of every board. You can do one and show a stack of jointed boards and your audience is going to be smart enough to infer that you did 200 passes on the table saw without needing to see each one. Then you can focus on stuff. Great execution on a cool idea man.
Thanks a lot. I appreciate the ideas. Def going to be showing just a few passes of each step in the future
Hands down best hidden gun self I’ve seen on CZcams.
As my nephew would say,,, That's legitness!!! 😂🤣👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼
Well thought out . And loved how u kept the tension on the top . Stop it from being lose.
Thanks man!!
Fantastic deserves 2 thumbs up👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks a lot man!
Very nicely done, on both counts. The video and definitely on the chest of drawers. Obviously this is a condensed version of the actual build but it was great watching it come together. Thank you very much for showing what is possible with a bit of time and materials.
Great build!!! The finished product has to weigh as much as a piano, I love the recycle aspect. Do you sell plans/drawings?
Thanks!! Yea she is up there on the weight level. Not yet but one of these days.
Rough Cut Creations I would be interested in buying some plans when they become available.
Rough Cut Creations I also would really love to have the plans for this if you ever get around to it
Still nothing on the market that is dresser that opens from the top the way yours does
This guy’s mind is amazing. Talented dude.
Quite a compliment! Thanks a lot!
If you sell these... or would make another one, I would be highly interested. Thanks
Thanks a lot, If I had more time I'd consider it. I really do appreciate it though.
Rough Cut Creations please consider it! I would buy this from you in a min!!!
same, i been looking for a solution and the coffee table ones wouldnt really work for me in the house i'm in, but this dresser would be perfect
I would buy one
I would also love to purchase one, just with reclaimed wood mostly, you would make plenty for you time, and skill!! Love the concept, if you build to sell please update us
There was a whole lot of cool and creative ideas in this piece! It looks rough, and I love it. Thanks for sharing!
Wicked awesome brother! It turned out fantastic.
Thanks!!
What is wicked awesome? That makes no sense sorry.
Nice build but you didn't need the music. It was just annoying.
+richard Turk Its just an old school phrase that means really awesome. Which this guy's work is.
1 of the nicest builds I’ve seen buddy, you should seriously think of selling that. I love hidden compartments and rooms I would totally buy something like that. Great job
Thanks a lot brother! I have been working for a while on a new and greatly improved version of this dresser, website, and a new video showing it off. I may do a hardware kit & plans shortly after. It should be up sometime within 2 months with links to the website with contact info and pricing.
Sorry, no disrespect intended, but way too fast to get any enjoyment while trying to watch what you're doing. I'd think slowing it down and maybe 2 parts would make it easier for us mere mortals.
I appreciate the constructive criticism and sorry about that. Not the first time I have heard this either haha. I get a little trigger happy with the speed button. I'll try splitting the next long project up into a 2 or 3 part and slow everything down a bit. I have a honeycomb wine rack build coming up that took around 100hrs. I'll give it a try on that one.
wow you are an amazing wood worker. A++++
Maybe also do a voice over to explain how you came to your decision on each step and the difficulties you faced.
It is too fast, but if you click the gear, and click 0.5 or 0.25, it's slower but jerky and all the steps are there. Nice looking dresser, great idea.
Awesome idea but I still don’t understand why what the side opening were made for? I wish I could share how this works or what the purpose of it exactly. I know this project was probably hard to do but I just hope you can explain things for us that don’t always get it. I love the style of all the things you made and awesome too! 👍👍
I had the same complaint until a friend told me to watch it on youtube where you can adjust the speed all the way down to quarter speed...it would be much easier to follow. And he was right, it was or is. It does take much longer to watch which is probably not a problem for all you wood workers out there.
I think that's just bad ass... beyond the creativity and foresight, having the skillset to achieve what you have done is just impressive... Nice Job!
Your design is awesome! Great job, hope you are selling the plans? Great video and great content. New to your channel!
Thanks man!! One of these days I'll get a set of plans out.
I've recently started making small things with pallets. This just blows me away. After watching you, I'm going to try bigger things now. Awesome you built your entire bedroom set with pallets. Very inspiring and creative. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks a lot! Gotta love the rustic look of pallet wood!
Which software are you using? I really like this project
Thanks! It's SketchUp make 2017, free and pretty easy to learn
Very nice hidden mechanism, but if I need my firearm(s) in a hurry, I don't want to have to sweep everything off the dresser top to lift it. Nice build in cramped quarters-I do feel your pain on that regard.
I love it ....need one lol
Haha Thanks!
I love it. Really like the reclaimed wood and how it hides the lock panel so well.
Absolutely amazing!!!
Thanks a lot!!
Best build I have seen in a long time.
Murica!
Hell yes
@@roughcutcreations3756 how much for one
Very cool. Much respect for the time and skill that it took to do that.
Queria aprender marcenaria para isso!
Muito legal isso que fez.
Looks like Elon Musk has competition. That wood Frame on the bed and dresser have a nice original western wood color
Got blue prints for this?
I would really like to know where to get them
Awesome chest of drawers. I already have matching bedroom furniture. I might try that with the chest of drawers I have.
Wow that is freaking awesome amazing and fantastic bro
Thanks a lot!
Everything I look for in a custom cabinet, OSB..... nailed it.
LOL
Wow Just Wow!!
Thanks!
I'd like to have the whole matching bed room set . Good video.
I want to buy one! Do you sell them?🙏🏻
Smiffer Smaffer I want one too!!
Very cool dresser, fantastic skills and well executed, cinematography was like watching a Jason Borne film or the Blair Witch Project....keep up the designs
That dresser is badass. How much does it cost ?
Thanks a lot!! Sorry though she's not for sale.
Its prob worth $30 with that crap Stock!
your face is a crap stock..... looks like pallet wood which is baeeeeeuuuuuuttttttiiiiiiiifuuuuuullllllllll!!
Rough Cut Creations would you be willing to share the plans?
Haha Thanks. Good taste
Yeah brother! Excellent job! I did a similar build, only mine opens a secret drawer (The "trim" is actually the face) Spring loaded, with stops. This way I don't have to clean off the top of the dresser when things go bump in the middle of the night. Again great job, and iI hope people can appreciate how hard it is to make matching furniture as different builds. Craftsmanship.
Thanks a lot! That sounds awesome!!! I'd love to make a drawer version someday.
Good project... Terrible music!
Thanks!
Stupid comment... stupid comment.
To each his own. I like the music.
One of the sickest videos ive seen on you tube...im going to make me one..like the music and the fact you left it looking original
Thanks man!
I SEE PUBG! In the background.
Ahh yea haha
Rough Cut Creations nice work by the way.
Thanks!!
Speed has been mentioned.
Here is my suggestion: when you do one thing several times, show it once, and then show the finished products of the repetition.
For example: show how you make the teeth on the boards for the drawers, then show each board as it is finished adding to a "magically" growing stack. no need to show the cutting of the teeth again and again.
This way you spare time that you can "invest" in showing the different tasks slower.
Nice product but video was to fast and gotta get rid of that loud music
I appreciate it!
lol turn your volume down. easy peasy
I like the music
I know it's dubbed over music but it is great for background working music. I love it.
Oh and I love the shop
CZcams's algorithms for Recommended Videos are approved by me for once, this is top notch stuff. 2A all the way.
I wish you'd sell these, I'd buy one for sure.
Thanks a lot!! CZcams actually suggested a gun related video, I'm surprised lol! I have been working for a while on a new and greatly improved version of this dresser, website, and a new video showing it off. I may do a hardware kit & plans shortly after. It should be up sometime within 2 months with links to the website with contact info and pricing.

Amen!
Very impressive and so cool. Nice finish on those pieces too. My only issue would be I can’t put anything on the top! Must.... have.... access!
Nice build, but did you really need to show you moving the camera. No, just show it at the tool.
Daniel Watson
I agree
Moving camera was not great
Thanks! Yea this video was all over the place. Trying to cut down on that for future videos.
You are incredibly skilled! Fantastic job, I'm really speechless.
Shucks. Well thank you very much!
That shit was annoying to say the least.
I will buy one in a heart beat, beautiful peace of wood work.
Love the Maryland cup ! I'm from Annapolis, but living in Salisbury for now. Sweet work !
Thanks my dude! Naptown is so fun! Nice living that close to the water too. I'm out towards Frederick.
Love how you kept it rustic and rough. It helps conceals it true identity.
Thanks man!
Great idea, beautiful design, excellent construction, a real work of art and labor of love, but a secret is only a secret until you tell someone! It’s almost impossible to build putting that much of yourself into something and not share.....
Thank You! You are exactly right.
Incredibly awesome. Not many people can say they built there stuff.
nice build, I particularly like how you removed the slack in the mechanism and added the ability to open it with one single action. (the push springs)
Um I would buy that in a second... incredible workmanship.
Thanks a lot!!
Awesome job man!!!.... it brings a big smile on my face when you open the top and show your arsenal 😁
Worth every moment to watch. Very well done sir.
Thanks a lot!!
Very Very Nice !! Love the video and music !! All of your pallet creations are super bad ass ! And the hardware too!
Thanks a lot man!!
Amazing! Probably one of the coolest videos I have ever seen! Thanks for the editing and post! Really well done on both sides. Edit and craftmenship!!
I was just going to fast forward to the end to see the final result but your video was so well done, I watched the whole thing. Thanks. Great idea and execution. Remember, don’t keep all your eggs in one basket 🥚🥚🥚, spread them out around the house. Again, great video.
Thanks a lot man. I like your thinking, I have a few stash spots haha
That first drawer is a give away. Make the hide shallower and it will hide better. Craftsmanship is great.
a kreigs jig makes all the difference. nice job!
Lordy, lordy, that was awesome! Even sped up, i was able to enjoy the vid. Great job, and thank heaven there are ingenious people like you.
Thanks a lot man! I glad some people can keep up!
That's very good. I would suggest deeper top drawers and a shallower hidden area.
I know this is an old video. It is quarantine time now late April 2020. I say there are many people who might want one of these right now!! God Bless the U.S.A.
Haha true everything gun related has been going pretty crazy. Amen!
Shut up and take my money
I love concealment furniture and the fact this piece is rustic and not all shiny fancy like others is the best part
awesome build, the finish to that unit is absolutely beautiful so now I'm going to look for your bed build.
Thanks! I built that puppy before my youtube days damnit.
This is awesome! But you can tell he’s using quality materials and it takes quite a bit of time. He would need to sell these for a high price to be able to justify the time and money it takes to make these. Good video by the way
Thanks a lot! You're not lying, it took quite a while
This took some thinking. I know you had a computer program to build the dresser but to put everything together took some ingenuity. This is so awesome that when I get my new shop built this coming spring I just might have to try this. People complained about the speed you had the video running but I understand as if this wasn't time lapse it would take hours to watch. All I did was slow the video down on parts I wanted a clear understanding of. Well done project and my hat is off to you. MAGA
Outstanding. A great job from a very talented individual. Thank You for sharing.
Thank you!!
Don't think that people will be bored watching the step by step. They really want to see exactly what you are doing and how you are doing it.
Education, motovation, inspiration and skill = FREEDOM!!
Yessss! Thanks man!
I’ve watched this twice now. It’s such an inspiring video. I’m definitely gonna try and make something similar. It would be nice if u could make a video explaining how u did some things
I think I'm gonna make another video on my revised version of this dresser soon
Super sick build brother. Respect. Love your dedication and commitment to safety and accesibility.
Oh yeah, subscribed.
Thanks a lot man!
Very creative and I’m impressed you get so many tools in that little work area.
HAHA thanks! It's a rats nest up there, seems like every time I pick up a new tool (can be as small as a drill) I'm shuffling the whole shop around lol.
