- This is Part 4 in the series 'Sketching with Schillinger'. This series was created after receiving tutorial viewer requests to demonstrate working with the Schillinger System of Musical Composition in more detail. I'll show how an orchestral composition can be created from a basic element, the 'melodic cell'.
Part 4 brings together melody and harmony in the final section of the example orchestral composition. We continue the illustration of the sketching process with techniques from the Schillinger System of Musical Composition. The closing main theme combines melodic and harmony aspects through the application of thematic melodic figuration with variable chordal functions. You'll see the return of other forms of melodic continuity within a strata harmony setting. The full 4-minute composition is played in Part 1. Part 2 has the details about the melodic elements, while in Part 3 you'll see the derivation of diatonic and atonal harmony from the source melodic cell.
