I saw an 80 year old grandma pull out a Nintendo Switch and play Mario Kart 8 with her grandson and his friends on the bus. I think this is a prime example of gaming acceptance.
That is family time
I wish that was my grandma
I wish its was my grandma hahahha so much funn
Did she win
This guy is fukkin awesome.
😂😂😁
I don't play, but my son does, and I'm seeing the value in video games more and more each day...love that he addressed stereotypes.
Video games were and are great for my family. I formed a really good relationship with my mom when I was little playing outrun, where we would trade off the controller when one of us failed. It was so much freaking fun
You should try to get involved playing with your son. Its never too late to start
Kathleen Glossop I wish you were one off my parents
Maybe you should try playing a party game with your son
Damn. I really wish my parents actually tried once to understand video games. It' always the same goddamn argument everytime. My mom's logic is basically: "Oh you can kill in this game? Then it's just another form of aggression but minecraft is a-okay even though you have to kill animals to get food and kill monsters to survive. But hey, you can build so it's creative!!!11!". Yeah, no. It seems like they can't understand how much videogames can give someone. They can be inspiring, depressing, motivational and can provide creativity. But no, they've made their mind up, and they won't let ANYONE explain what they are actually about.
by far the best title I have ever seen
Not only that, but for kids in other countries, it is an awesome way to learn English.
I work as an IT-consultant, not game-related, but my passion for IT and technology started with gaming. I am 100% certain I wouldn't be where I am today, without video games.
that's how I got started and now I'm pretty fluent in both spanish and english :).. I'm and Online Marketer, but my passion for computers, animation and web design did start from video games! They are fkin awesome!!
Absolutely. I'm italian, and if I had never played video games, I would have never been able to speak english as well as I do right now (it's not the best but it's kinda good). And, I'm only 15.
+Benny how? Simply wondering
i learned english at the age of 9. i now speak fluent english at the age of 13.
Network Engineer here, same story. 😁
one of the people I play with apparently fully learnt English from gaming with English speakers.
I fully learned english from games
BS.

i spent my entire life playing video game ^_^, now i'm an indie game developer.
good for you, what games do you make? I really like indie games
You are the reason the game industry is thriving. Indie developers are the life blood of the gaming community.
That’s sick
What is your game?
@@Colmenero444 Sorry for the late reply , thank you brother and you're the reason why game developers keep doing the hard work :)
Video games helped me reconnect with the closest thing to childhood friends that I've ever known. I come from a military family so we moved around a lot when I was a kid. I've said goodbye to friends and started from scratch in a new state so many times and it still hasn't gotten any easier. Flash-forward to last year, being 22 and living in my first apartment. I bought a gaming laptop and immediately hit up my old friends from Okinawa. They told me to download a program called Discord and I head their voices again for the first time in 10 years. Now we game together and have immediate direct contact with each other and now we hang out daily. And if it wasn't for video games, I probably wouldn't have become friends with those beautiful bastards in the first place.
Video games bring people together and help them stay together
I agree, videogames are a good way to maintain relationships when people move away. It's the main reason I can still keep contact with good people I've met in my life other than the occasional call.
No wonder this guy is so cool, he is Canadian
AND he's wearing a kilt
@@Modernwarcraft5 More like a skirt. 😎
facts
what I love about games it gives you this since of power
Video games are also a *fantastic* way of learning english. You play a video game in english, then you start watching tutorials online and reading guides, and in very little time you learn a lot.
THIS
I come from a country where English is a foreign language and has been somewhat intensively taught to children in schools from around the age of 11 for 15 years at most. So, by the time I was 12-13, I could hold a conversation with a fluent english-speaker. I just recently turned 16 and the only people I've met that I know can speak english better that me are my english teachers and one friend who is currently 20 years old. I learned the english language from games and the internet.
I did exactly the same thing, I'm 15 and there are very few students in my high school who can speak english better than me. I went 2 weeks in Australia and had no problems at all interacting with people there, I even started to think in english instead of my native language, and many times it happens to me to know something in English but not in Italian.
Haha I'm from Slovenia! And yeah whenever we went to school tripa to foreing countries interaction was in english was easy. We once went to paris and I went to a shop with a friend who is also fluent in English. He asked how much he had to pay in dollars. I started laughing on the spot and the shopkeep actually thought we were from the USA because he learned english like me and we both have american accents, even though we've never been there.
Also half the time I think in english and have for years now.
@@xShonFrostx judging on your writing you seem to be perfectly fluent lol. And writing in English is the toughest part, we have an absurd amount of archaic rules lmao
He's a great public speaker. He seems much more relaxed than a lot of other speakers at TEDx Talks.
Me: Gets Bachelors Degree in Game Art and gets turned down by every studio internship and entry level job.
Game Company: Let's let a bunch of kids work in our studios.
Me: Oh, Okay
*Commits suicide*
You can do it.
I have a friend who spent almost 6 years working on his portfolio to get into the film industry, he's now been involved for about 20 years with 32 artistic credits. Getting to do what you love takes time and effort. Never give up.
Art is the hardest part to get into. I’m more on the design / developer side. Only thing I can suggest is sell assets on an asset store, work on solo projects, game jams, do stuff to beef up that resume. Also research how to interview well. Lastly, are you saying Game Artist on your resume? Be specific for the thing you’re applying for. Make sure your portfolio site has sections tailored to those positions. Idk what you need help with, but research is one of the first steps.
Got that job yet?
I wish my parents can watch this, but they don't understand English......
Let em play games lol
@@ArkanMatlub03 yeah they would learn English
im like wow i want parents that understant my passion

He. Called his son Darius after the champion in league of legends
gavish daniel was there LoL by 2013?
gavish daniel nvm
Alucardjr69 yea
goku Darius?
How I learn my English and be so good at it? I played Warcraft 3 campaign so many times, watching movies. That's where I learn my English
I'm sorry for my rude thinking, but that's not "be so good at it", but well you're fine.
Good man
when he said woman plays more games than teen boys, does he mean mobile games?
nope, we're real DD:
Yes more than likely
😂😂😂😂
He's on spot. My boys play various games and smoke the old man. We don't even have cable in our home. Never have. My kids have no interest in t.v. when visiting my extended family. Me oldest son was not doing good in his reading. My rule was , if you want to try skyrim or halo, you must read each prompt or story line on the screen and make your own decisions. He has improved dramatically , he had a reason to learn his reading. Lastly. My older sons are becoming very balanced in stress management. You die a few hundred times and rather quickly you quit or keep grinding. Games are far to colorful vibrant and exciting for a young guy to just walk away from. Its a thing the guys get together and do , mom comes and watches. She secretly wants us off the beast so she can do her digital art.
Two phases of modern life:
one: Playing World of Warcraft (MMO-RPG-Games)

Video games give me friends. I’M WITH YA
I absoutely love this!! All the hours I've spent gaming directly helped my career reach unimaginable heights.

Good talk. Really liked bit about his children becoming good friends. Video games keep your mind open!
I love it. Saturdays are my video game days!!!
This deserves more reconition
1:56 what a Karen
I might be biased due to the kilt, but great talk.
I love you man
I learned to type quickly because of videogames. Like, I learned grammar from people correcting me in Minecraft chat.
Omg that’s hilarious
I'm writing a essay bout this so this better give me ideas
Did it give you ideas?

I want to be this guy's friend
I literally learned to read from playing video games, even more then school did
How can i prove to mom that video games are actually good? I've showed her that games can give you a faster reaction time and other things and i've even given her a E-sport light book that says why games are good. She read it all but still doesn't want me to play a lot.
Focus on school first, and reward yourself with games, like I do
You should do well in other areas of life and play games in moderation. Show your mom that they dont affect your life in a bad way, and that you have self control over them, (that its not an addiction, but a hobby)
Play in moderation. If you make a habit out of it, that'll lead to more issues than you'll need. Can speak from experience.
Yep, Video Games are Awesome.
So true !!!!
ty
This guy looks like Merry from LOTR with beard!
Also he's Canadian, and cool!
The cameraman really had a crush on that girl
I think video games produce perseverance.
I got my English from games. What little German I know, I got from that one German game I played in 1998.
Hello Mr. Ted! I am also named Ted, and so for that reason and because we both create content to share on this beautiful world of CZcams, Thank You!

I love you.
Dang, Shawn Ashmore's dad is doing well.
Doin the lords work out here
My dad is better than me in BotW....
YoshiMan99 I wish my parents would play games, they just don’t get how much fun they are, they look down on gamers, think esports is a joke, and they think all gamers are overweight high school dropouts who live in their parents basement
YoshiMan99 and they say there’s too many buttons and it’s to hard, like if they would just try to play for 20 minutes they would be fine
8:13 Me being called a "W*t back" after a warzone game... Despite playing on my country (Not the US), on room be like
Yeah... Nope uwu
App games
Wait? you say that most waman play games, uhh exxxxxxxxxxxcuse mE BuT MoBiLe DoEsN'T CoUnT!?!?!?

Meh. Several non sequiturs in order to prove a vague statement. So video games are "awesome" because his children are good friends and they play video games? Ok.
some of them say that video games are adcactive and bad but their not effecting me I hop one day I l go to game studio one day
I bet they were all baked out of their minds smh bet it smelt loud af in there

I'd love to send this lecture to my dad. But that skirt won't let him hear a word. Boomers are hopeless
PC MASTER RACE!
@Spinal PC will still be better, consoles are primarily used for gaming and you can use PCs for much more stuff, that's basicwlly the reason I like PCs more.
And also, PCs will get better and better with time as well.
candy crush and pokemon go dont qualify a person as a gamer ;/
Yes. They. Do. You aren't a special snowflake.
Was that directed at the guy who claimed that mobile GAMEs doesn't make you a GAMEr, or the person who was correct in this argument?
you, mobile games are nothing compared to CSGO, GTA, Rocket leauge, league of legends, and the list goes on
okay, tell me what mobile GAMEs are if not games, then. you don't get to choose what qualifies as a game or not based on personal taste, if you think you do you have some serious issues of the narcissistic kind.
who said these aren't games? I just said that mobile games aren't even on the same scale as the listed above. Also your grammar is not to great.
i fixed it for you:
okay, tell what mobile games are, if not games. You don't get to choose what qualifies as game or not based on personal taste. If you think you do you have some narcissistic issues.
Woman doesnt play Vidgames sorry. There are some of them but the example this gentleman gave is 100% inaccurate
The women that play on their phone also count!
A lot of my female friends play video games quite a bit, that's not true.
GRemlinOnion no...it doesn't
TwixtheWizard I mean that the TED guy counts them
u dont no much? XD
